  1. Paul Molitor was a coke head, too. Should we relinquish his plaque? Character shouldn't matter much, if at all, when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Speaking of which, Albert Belle should be in the Hall of Fame. If Kirby got an injury discount, then so should Belle.
  2. i think there are also some programs that recruit more players that fit their system rather than players that are highly-regarded by the national publications. texas tech and west virginia (under dick rod) are two programs that have had consistent top 25 success without "great" recruiting classes. i don't think you can be a consistent national championship contender like usc, lsu, ou, texas or osu if you aren't pulling top 10 classes year after year, but you can be in that next tier of schools. Well, Ole Miss has been lucky to have a lot of great players who weren't highly recruited. Patrick Willis was just a two star recruit, and Peria Jerry and Greg Hardy (both possible 1st rounders) were just three star recruits. Perhaps that is the norm with most schools and the players that become stars for them, I dunno.
  3. I'll admit to being a Dawson homer. I realize his career OBP sucks and his OPS+ isn't all that great, and those are valid knocks against him that I'll gladly concede. However, if you look at his resume using the traditional stats that have been used to elect people to the Hall, it is hard to ignore his case: 2800 hits 440 HR 500 Doubles 1600 RBI 300 Stolen Bases 8 Gold Gloves (4 in CF) MVP ROY
  4. I'm in the minority I'm sure, but I personally consider Auburn to have won a National Championship in 2004. It's the SEC homer in me, I suppose.
  5. I think that is very unlikely. Yeah, I definitely understand that. Big difference in the two programs. Nevertheless, it seems like Auburn has delusions of grandeur if they expect better than 47 wins over a five year span. Yeah, Ole Miss didn't recruit very well this year at all. I've also heard that being a big knock against Nutt as well. I'm hoping that the low ranking might have had to do with how young our team is right now. We've got a great many true freshman and sophomores in prime spots. So perhaps that has scared off some players and pushed them over to Mississippi State, where the only requisite to starting right away this past year was that you could tie your cleats. Hopefully Nutt's supposed lack of recruiting prowess might be negated a bit at Ole Miss because of our new indoor practice facilities, which are among the top in the nation. Croom leaving State might throw some of their good recruits our way as well. Oh, and speaking of the devil, I just read on rivals that a pretty good DB de-committed from Auburn after hearing about Tubs departure and committed to Ole Miss. Recruiting 58th sucks and is a bit troubling, but perhaps it is just a one year fluke due to other circumstances. We'll see.
  6. That's odd. I probably wouldn't rank Jeter in the top 53 offensive players for 2008, let alone all time. It's just that certain formula that shows him at 53rd all-time:
  7. I wonder how much/if Raines' drug use affects his candidacy with some voters.
  8. it probably depends on who they bring in to replace him, but i don't think tuberville will be out of a job for long. Go 47-16 over the last five seasons and you lose your job. Compare that to Miss. St's reluctance to fire Croom after he went 21-38 over that same time span (and 8 of those 21 wins came in one year!).
  9. Auburn made a mistake firing Tuberville I think.
  10. Probably the most underrated player of recent times. Seriously? Jay Bell must have been one of Brady Anderson's best students in the school of "how to extend your career by roidin' up". No kidding. Throw Bret Boone in there too.
  11. He's got a higher WARP3 than Jim Rice... then again, who doesn't? lol, awesome
  12. kidnapping is a pretty common form of crime in central and south america. hostages are usually released unharmed.
  13. I envy you Bears fans. It'd be nice to be in a crappy division this year. :? With 6 wins you guys are still in the thick of it. The Saints' 6 wins means they are virtually eliminated.
  14. OMFG yes. I would watch that. Rickey would probably think he was there to cut the ribbon at a mall opening or something.
  15. It sticks in my mind it's usually around the end of July. Yes, it is always hot as balls. The HOFers are always dripping with sweat.
  16. guess that's that. Time to buy my Kevin Gregg jersey-shirt buy two; one to piss on and one to cover it up with.
  17. I've posted this on this site before, but take a look at Bert Blyleven's stats compared to his peers that are all in the Hall of Fame:
  18. \:D/ http://www.markgrace.com/images/grace_hof.jpg
  19. Yes, there should be no question about Rickey. 1st all-time in Runs 1st all-time in Stolen Bases 2nd all-time in Walks 4th all-time in Times on Base 4th all-time in Games Played 10th all-time in Runs Created 21st all-time in Base Hits Oh, and let me just throw something else in. In a few years time, whatever numbnut sportswriter doesn't vote for Greg Maddux should be summarily put to death.
  20. top priority: Henderson, Blyleven middle priority: Raines, Smith, Trammell, Dawson
  21. It's pretty hard to fathom really, and concerning his original candidacy, there had to have been some form of collusion to not vote for him amongst the writers. At the time of his retirement, he was second all time in many offensive third base categories. I often bring this out to illustrate what a force Santo was during his playing years: Top 10 Win Shares of the 1960's: Hank Aaron - 340 Willie Mays - 337 Frank Robinson - 307 Roberto Clemente - 260 Harmon Killebrew - 257 Ron Santo - 247 Mickey Mantle - 247 Willie McCovey - 237 Brooks Robinson - 233 Carl Yastrzemski - 230 There's also this: http://nationalsportsreview.com/2005/03/02/ron-santo-hall-worthy-2/
  22. Florida. There is no try.
  23. The non-southerners on this board are now seeing why the only team that everyone in the SEC can agree to hate is Bama. Bama fans always have delusions of grandeur. Alabama is not the best team in the country.
  24. Wait till next year, you freaking bitch losers.
