  1. I haven't , but I've heard it is good. Plus, it has Santo on the cover IIRC, and that's pretty badass.
  2. Alot of rumblings going around about Chris Petersen being the new head coach at Miss St., but of course he's denying it for now. http://www.kivitv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9467129 I don't know if I buy him going there though. No doubt the SEC is an upgrade from the WAC, but MSU is pretty much the graveyard of the SEC. Their fan base isn't all that big, their facilities aren't on par with the rest of the conference, and Starkville is definitely the worst city in the SEC.
  3. Good points.
  4. Texas is still king in that regard and probably always will be.
  5. Article from the WSJ with some interesting stats about SEC football: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122843720586081461.html Interesting article, but it pretty easily sidesteps what I think is the most obvious reason why the SEC might have a leg up on other conferences: racial demographics.
  6. The dopey voters who don't vote for Maddog on the first ballot should be executed.
  7. lame http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3747305
  8. Funny email going around:
  9. If that's the case, third time won't be the charm for OhioSt. They're liable to get their ass handed to them again.
  10. Hmmmm, perhaps he is sick? Tommy T didn't look to be himself when I saw him on the sidelines on TV this year. Looked thinner than usual. Although I suppose that wouldn't be something to get pushed out over.
  11. Why would you tease something like that? Seriously, what is the point? The only thing I've heard is that they told him to fire his entire staff or leave. So basically he fell on his sword instead of killing all his captains.
  12. Hell, I'd imagine so. You damn near have to try to suck to be as bad as he was last year. Doesn't take Nostradamus to predict that he'll be better than he was last year.
  13. I understand that PETCO is where fly balls go to die, but the dude's road stats were .212/.225/.317 last year. He sucked ass everywhere he went last year. Is a change of scenery going to have that much more of an effect? Maybe he won't have a VORP in the negative digits. Horray for him.
  14. What would terrify me as a Cards fan is that last year wasn't just an off year, it was an epic disaster of biblical proportions. Players often recover from down years, but to expect someone to actually improve upon their previous "good" seasons...I dunno. Seems iffy to me, regardless of change in parks and what not.
  15. It's not. I just like watching a stats guy defend someone with a negative VORP that is being paid 5 million+ It's not very hard. He's a + defender that has hit better than league average for a shortstop in all but one year. And he plays half his games at PetCo. I'm aware of all this. I know he's extremely talented and likely hasn't forgotten how to ball, but my god, there's no excuse for his production last year.

  17. WTF, TT has over 4,000 posts at Gateway?
  18. Congrats Meph, they are quoting you over at Gateway :-) http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=32215&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=55
  19. True, it's not like he was statistically the worst starting SS in the National League last year; Omar Vizquel was. 15th out of 16 isn't so bad.
  20. Even if he was twice the player he was last year, he'd scare me about as much as Eddie Gaedel.
  21. Keep trying to console yourself. It's not going to change the fact that he's probably going to be the best shortstop in the division immediately, if not the entire league. Hanley and Jose wave hello. About a dozen other guys do too.
  22. I'm increasingly convinced this Greene infatuation by Meph is some clever farce much like MurtonFan's stated belief that Nickelback is better than The Beatles.
  23. -7.1 VORP, 1.5 WARP3. At least his OPS+ wasn't in the negatives...
  24. Of the 71 players that BP lists as playing SS last year, Greene is 61st with a whopping -7.1 (yes, negative) VORP. Our li'l bitty gritty Riot was 10th out of 71 with a 27.9 rating.
