  1. Was looking at some stats earlier and found it interesting that in his 2200 games, Larkin accumulated a total WAR of 67.1 and Jeter through roughly 2500 games is at 67.9. So for all the hype that Jeter gets (and we all know why) he is more or less the same player as Larkin. More evidence of this is that Jeter's average career OPS+ is 117 and Larkin's is 116.
  2. Reminds me of the old stories of John McGraw when he played third base. One of his notable things was to sneak up behind and hook his finger in a baserunner's belt as they tagged up at third on a sac fly, thus literally "holding" the runner on base.
  3. How on earth did a blind guy cover sports?

  5. i have no idea why it took that long. Some people I know were in genuine freak out mode terrified at losing Brees, which is quite comical because there wasn't any way they weren't going to sign him. That city would burn to the ground if they let Breesus walk. Are there any examples of a super elite franchise QB not getting resigned in his prime?
  6. Neil DeGrasse Tyson did some great tweeting during the ASG
  7. as is the unwritten little league-ish rule about getting everyone in the game no matter what.
  8. Gonna go with Cargo to win tonight
  9. Figured there needed to be a thread for this Marlins mad they don't have an all-star in the game: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/08/marlins-upset-they-dont-have-an-all-star/ Reyes? No way. I really don't see anyone else on the Marlins team that is having an All-Star type season or even close to it. Steve Cishek is having a solid year out of the bullpen, but that's really about it as far as I can see. Ruggiano is a badass but I don't think he has played enough this year to warrant an AS selection.
  10. Seems like Willis was around a lot longer than 9 seasons.
  11. So is he back now?
  12. had a brain fart and read the thread title as "Randy Wells Dead"
  13. Is that what happened ?? Pat & Keith never mentioned that ! It wasn't that blatant. Kinda grazed him with his glove when he threw his hands up in disgust. Oh, it was blatant. He was poking him with his glove; basically like you would if you were grabbing someone's arm as you were talking to them. This. If he didn't have a glove he basically would have been goon-arming him.
  14. Ike touched that ump. That'll be a suspension
  15. I think "Rizzo" is enough
  16. Am I the only one who always thinks "Kerry" when I see game threads with Wood as the starter? It's like a reflex or something
  17. so it begins... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_f6dbhdVRcig/SMfO3Jf2qCI/AAAAAAAAAIw/_Dp9IniCBq0/s400/theoden_at_helms_deep.jpg
  18. a heavy, heavy burtation ha, outstanding. I'm glad to see "burtation" making it into our vocabulary.
  19. anyone else hear this audio of Texas Rangers announcer Dave Barnett having a stroke or something on air? Pretty freaky

  21. Holy dogcrap. That is surely the worst counting stats for any MVP ever. That's truly baffling. The three guys directly behind him in voting had higher OPS+'s of 160, 172, and 174 compared to his 90.
