I think the reality of the loss of Sean Payton is finally hitting Saints fans. Like others I thought that the loss wouldn't be so profound given that Drew Brees is the epitome of a field general, but damnit if it isn't obvious now just how influential Payton was. I've been to both home games now and the fans are rabid as ever, but there is definitely a very queer feeling about it all. There is definitely a sense that something is missing. We caught a glimpse of this last year when Payton was injured and had to sit up in the booth. The team was absolutely not clicking on all cylinders during those games. Other than the opening loss against the Packers, their only regular season losses came in the three or four week stretch where he wasn't on the sidelines. Also, the Saints D, which has always been mediocre at best is now downright terrible. They just don't have the personnel to run a Spagz defensive scheme. Will Smith is on his last leg and losing Vilma is a devastating blow. There isn't a single pro-bowl caliber player anywhere near the defensive roster this season. Carl Nicks was also a HUGE loss on the OL as witnessed by Brees being hit and running for his life more than I've ever seen. Karma I guess
