  1. i believe that game was in pittsburgh and wasn't that a 1-0 or 2-1 game? i remember it being VERY close.
  2. murton marshall cedeno (he'll get better with time...and hopefully he'll learn some patience at the plate) z maddux (always a professional) barrett lee ramirez eyre howry dempster wood (for all his injuries, all he wants to do is pitch and help the cubs win...i can't fault him for that) all the young players walker got on my last nerve with throwing ronny under the bus the other day.
  3. Didn't 1997 start with 17 straight loses...that was fun to be disapointed and giving up and the team hadn't even won 1 game. only thing worth watching that year was sandberg's quest for the all-time HR mark by a 2nd baseman and he achieved that in april. that and just watching ryno play during his final season and (ultimately) jim riggleman benching him in favor of some other dudes.
  4. 1994 was really bad, but 2000 takes the cake. i stopped watching after shane andrews and rondell white were deemed "key pick-ups." remember when rondell slid into second base head first and dislocated his shoulder about a week or two after acquiring him? good times.
  5. this post is so laughable. you're kidding me, right? "wow, i hate the yankees cuz those rap guys wear their hats!" lil jon is from atlanta...could be possibly be a braves fan or is that too much out of the question since he's a hip-hop artist? big boi and andre 3000 from outkast wear braves jerseys and hats...do they know that they are in the cellar? what an absurd question to ask. for the record, there are chicago hip-hop artists who have worn cubs clothing. twista has worn cubs jerseys in the past and so has chali-2na from the jurassic 5. diverse has also worn cubs clothing at one point or another. what a silly reason to hate a team...
  6. easiest thing to do is to park at montrose harbor. take lake shore drive north to the montrose harbor exit. park there and walk from montrose to sheridan. take a left on sheridan...it'll take you right to wrigley field. the walk from sheridan to wrigley is maybe 7-8 blocks (10-15 minute walk). if you don't mind the walk, it's awesome...plus it's FREE. if you don't want to walk, hail a cab and they'll take you to wrigley for 5-7 dollars.
  7. gotta add a few more to this list... * remember those commercials back in '96 or '97 when the cubs were talking about their favorite things? mark grace said metallica, brian mcrae said long walks on the beach, sammy said (and i quote) "i like to hit de home run!"...but the kicker was frank castillo. he said "puppy dogs!" i just about laughed my arse off at that. hilarious. then they asked about their favorite baseball moment and they show all the cubs itching their chins and grace ends the commercial saying "i haven't had mine yet." the text blurb at the end was the icing on the cake, though... "chicago cubs: we're working on it." looking back now, they should bring back that commercial and use it with this team. * frank castillo's wife was an adult film star. she was in a video once talking about how her husband was "a pitcher for the chicago cubs" and how they got down on the pitcher's mound before the game. frank got mad flak for that on the radio during his tenure with the cubs. * the god-awfulness that was gary scott. if you have a dictionary near you and looked up "hyped to hell," there would be a picture of him. so, so bad. dubbed him as the "next ron santo," but was everything but. * kevin foster. always liked him. didn't know what you were going to get each start, but i always thought he had skills but didn't have enough willpower to control them. i wonder what he's doing nowadays.
  8. don't know if this was posted yet or not, but check out the cubs entry in wikipedia, specifically the first paragraph... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_cubs i had a good laugh after reading that.
  9. * Brant Brown dropped the fly ball in Milwaukee? watching the game at home and having my stomach turn. was it the same day or a few days later when neifi hit the home run against the giants? i remember flipping off the cubs game that day and switching on sportscenter just in time to see the baseball tonight update with neifi's home run going over the fence. i just about pooped my pants in excitement. i was a junior in high school at this time. wow, what a few days! * The 1994 World Series was canceled? i barely remember watching the last cubs game of '94. i think they were on a west coast road trip or were about to go on one. * The Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds were in the NL West? i remember the cubs winning the nl east. * Shawon Dunston would charge the mound just about everytime he was hit by a pitch? i just tossed an old vhs tape from '95 where shawon got into someone's face after they slid hard into second base. dunston flipped off the runner's helmet with his hand and everything...i miss shawon and his 300-mph throws to second and first. *Harry Caray would call Andre Dawson "Andre Rogers"? i miss harry, period. even when the cubs were atrocious, harry would find some silver lining like this gem: "hey, the moon's orange! it's gonna be a hot day tomorrow!" * On 8/8/88 the first night game at Wrigley was rained out? i watched that with my family way back when. i remember the cubs going slip 'n sliding on the tarp during the rain delay, too. * 30 homers was considered a "monster" year? barry larkin won the '95 mvp with numbers close to corey patterson's '03 mid-season numbers. that shows you how much has changed in MLB in 10 years... * Marla Collins was the hottest woman in sports? i wonder what she's up to now... i also remember when frank dipino and mark grace getting into a brawl, being bummed when shawon dunston missed a ton of the season back in the summer of '91, ryno breaking his hand in spring training in '93, ryno retiring for the first time in '94 (one of the papers headlines wrote "another no. 23 hangs it up"), the wild-card fight in '95, the highs and lows of '98, the god-awfulness of the '99 and '00 club, the hope of the 2001 team (roosevelt brown!), hating will clark because of the '89 playoffs and much much more. this team is like a forever pimple on my body...they'll never go away.
  10. i am a man of my word... does anyone have a word-eating emoticon? i guess this will do... http://www.dragon-warrior.com/Zelda/pacman-tongue.gif
  11. You really think it's unusual for folks to assume the worst about a player who takes trips to the DL like we take trips to the grocery store? Wow. a player with 2-3 rehab starts in the minors and 4 starts after coming off the DL. i understand his history fully, but all i'm saying is give him some time to get back into the groove, that's all.
  12. we can't just chalk it up as a bad outing? when prior comes back and has a bad game, will people say that he must be hurt or "this is the new prior we'll be seeing?" wood pitched decent in his last outing. i just don't understand how people can't say he had a bad outing...there seems to be a knee-jerk reaction whenver wood has a bad game where a few cats say "well, he must be hiding an injury..." or "here comes a trip to the DL..." are we all that conditioned whenever wood pitches bad that we think the worst is going to happen? i think some of you are jumping the gun on this...if he goes on the DL, i'll eat my words, but i think we all need to take a step back and see how he pitches his next time out.
  13. kerry's in the dugout going "what took you so long, guys?!!"
  14. 6 IP 11 K 1 BB 4 H 2 ER
  15. how's the weather by wrigley? i'm flying in tonight and going to the game tomorrow...just curious to see if it's clearing up or not.
  16. i'll be at the game on saturday. i don't know what i'm rooting harder for...no rain or the cubs to score more than 1 run. p.s. happy 100 posts.
  17. he's had freakouts like this before. remember, this is the same owner who wrote a letter to new york city apologizing for his team losing the '81 world series to the dodgers. he'll praise arod in a few days and everything will be all hunky-dory.
  18. "don't liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee!" sorry, couldn't resist.
  19. to play devil's advocate...didn't we all say that about chris carpenter in '04 and '05?
  20. that's how i feel. at first he was coming back because of a bad viral infection over the offseason, then "all of a sudden" his shoulder is bothering him, now he's got the craps. dude, just take some pepto and get back out there! i hope he's not turning into a mental midget when it comes to aches and pains.
  21. My astronomy professor probably won't, being as she's Indian. But I'll skip class anyway. what?! indians don't watch baseball?! http://homepage.mac.com/ibook238/.Pictures/apu-mets.jpg the ny mets are his favorite squadren!
  22. *thread hi-jack* dj shadow is from davis, california. thus, davis is cool in my book. */thread hi-jack*
  23. i didn't think it was that big of a deal. sure, that should've been jacque's ball to catch, but the whole flip thing made me laugh a little bit. even after neifi caught the ball, jones was still looking around for the ball and all of a sudden he looks back and sees the ball still the air and neifi catch it. more like neifi just messing with jones on a very close play. nothing more, nothing less.
  24. there's a story about rick monday and the flag-burning game in one of the 2001 media guides that you can purchase when you get a scorecard. it was a really good interview with monday...i'll see if i can find it and possibly scan and post the article itself.
