  1. listening to vin scully do the play-by-play on mlb radio and was too distracted by his perfect baseball announcing voice to notice if mattingly had anyone warming up during the bases-loaded nobody out situation. what an absolute waste of an amazing pitching performance by kershaw.
  2. i'm using mlb.tv to watch the game and i've just noticed the 9 different camera angles you can choose. has this always been a part of mlb.tv or just for the playoffs? either way, it's wild!
  3. and castillo just threw a strike to 2nd to gun down a baserunner. WOW!
  4. they finally updated my place in line: #53,829 as of this morning. rose 30,030 places since last july and 61,530 places since april 2012.
  5. consider yourself lucky. i had to sit next to two drunk kids in their late teens spitting chaw all over the place like a couple of assholes.
  6. still great to see that my baseball tonight vhs recording from 2001 is still making the rounds on the internet. that's the loudest i've ever heard wrigley in person. what a great ending!
  7. heading up to the cubs bar in the lower east side later on to watch the game. happy days are here again!
  8. Okay, I've seen an iteration of this posted multiple times, but I don't understand the reference. Can someone explain what this is from? And what exactly is going on? EXACTLY. it's from the movie BABES IN TOYLAND: http://www.sadanduseless.com/2010/02/creepy-fiddle-playing-cat-and-spastic-mouse/ i watched that movie one too many times as a child.
  9. For some strange reason, I only jumped 30 places in line from July 2013 to July 2014. I jumped 31,500 places from April 2012 to July 2013. I have an email into the season ticket waiting list asking, quite politely, WTF?
  10. baez and bryant aren't going to be there opening day 2015, much less russell and soler. well, soler maybe if he had more PAs this year, but he hasn't. I understand that Russell had a hamstring issue at the start of the season, but from the sound of what's been posted on Oakland A's boards, it seems that he would've been in AA/AAA for them for most of the 2014 season, if not a mid-season call up if the injury didn't happen. Do we see the Cubs holding him in the minors for another full season? Also, with the way Bryant is hitting at all levels and and Baez starting to put it together on a more consistent basis in Iowa (yes, small sample size over the last 3-4 weeks), do we really think those two won't make it on the opening day roster in 2015?
  11. So is it fair to say that this would be our starting 8 going into opening day 2015: C Castillo 1B Rizzo 2B Baez/Castro SS Castro/Russell 3B Russell/Baez LF Bryant CF Alcantara RF Free Agent/Soler Would it be wishful thinking to believe we'd get mid-late 90s era Cleveland Indians production out of this lineup? Very young and a good chunk won't have any MLB service time, but damn this group of players makes me excited for next season!
  12. Purchased tickets for this game thinking it would have the best pitching matchup. I'll take trading for Russell as a consolation prize, though. \:D/
  13. I always flash back to Sammy's ... 96? Was that the HBP that shattered his helmet? If so, that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay after 96 Wasn't it 03? shattered helmet was 2003 against the pirates. salomon torres.
  14. I always flash back to Sammy's ... 96? Was that the HBP that shattered his helmet? no, he was hit by a pitch against the marlins in '96 that broke his wrist and ended his season with him sitting on 40 HR.
  15. is rizzo hurt? gameday says he's out of the game yet he hit a home run in the 1st...
  16. is there a reason why luis valbuena isn't in the lineup every day?
  17. are blackhawks games available to listen to on wgnradio online?
  18. let's hug it out, bitch: http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/10833756/sammy-sosa-sit-make-amends-chicago-cubs
  19. yeah, i was trying to figure out what the hell pat was talking about because he got very serious rather quickly.
  20. I don't recall how I felt toward him at the time. My fandom was around its low and the lockout was coming. But I remember being really disappointed at least. And I am more annoyed about it now given the hypocrites who hammer the younger generation for their indiscretions and how they treat their team/teammates. Chief among them Ryno and his BS "kids these days" speech. i was 11 at the time and i was more bothered as to how much the cubs sucked and the impending strike than anything else. with treblehorn doing the firehouse chats and the lack of quality players (as far as players worth following, sosa was still a small blip on the radar and grace was having an OK season), there wasn't much to root for. i also remember that the same week that sandberg retired, the whole OJ thing was unfolding so whatever annoyance i might've had towards sandberg was washed away by the spectacle that was to become OJ SIMPSON plastered all over my television screen.
  21. most likely in the minority here, but sandberg retiring mid-season never bothered me that much. his reasoning as to why he did was laughable (losing the desire to get ready for each game) where it was obvious that his wife/divorce was the real reason. same with sosa leaving early on the last day in '04...so many positive memories eclipse that one incident.
  22. i can see how cindy sandberg screwed the team, but how did ryno do that? by retiring? ehh, that's a bit of a stretch. the cubs should have sosa back in some way, shape or form. if the tigers can have a statue of the wife-beating bigot ty cobb in front of ford field, i believe the cubs can make amends with a superstar that left early on the last day of the 2004 season. he made them shitloads of money for over a decade and to hold that one incident over his head is so petty on their end.
  23. martin maldonado of the brewers rips the cover off a baseball. literally. http://m.mlb.com/video/v32180219/milpit-alvarez-perplexed-by-coverless-ball-in-mitt/?query=Martin%2BMaldonado
