  2. six words you thought you'd never read: reed johnson is trending on twitter. #9 worldwide.
  3. or will los angeles pull the trigger on a dempster trade since trading for garza isn't feasable at this point?
  4. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/dailypitch/post/2012/07/cal-ripkens-mom-is-found-safe/1#.UBAd8KA5vTo i guess she was abducted from her house on tuesday. didn't he find a dead body on his property a few years back? strange story.
  5. looking forward to my first cubs game of the year. the high for tomorrow is 99. here's to hoping for a seat somewhere in the shade.
  6. Now we're even for 1984. You couldn't have possibly been around in 1984. Nothing could make up for that. See you in hell, Steve Garvey. this. my brother has steve garvey to hate for the rest of his life; i have will clark. that [expletive] ruined my 7th birthday. there's been better cubs team that made the playoffs later on, but [expletive] that '89 team is my favorite.
  7. Aside from the Seinfeld episode, a slogan totally unknown outside of people who lived in an area in NY and around NYC in the 90s and late 80s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdl5aiYr-RU
  8. rizz mopper
  9. did clevenger hit like this in the minors?
  10. Additionally: Hawkins: racism related Bradley: racism related Jacque Jones: felt unfairly treated, might have been racism mixed in. Flames were fanned by close friend Tori Hunter. Baker: ran out of top shelf arms to wreck Silva: vocally upset that he lost his job to a more talented player(Cashner) and was strung along despite the fact that they know he would lose out. I think DeRosa, Prior, and Pierre each might have griped a bit after their respective stays. I don't recall DeRosa, Prior or Pierre griping at all. Mark Grace is the one that irritated me: "I'm not good enough to play for the Cubs but I'm good enough to play for the WS champions!" douchbag There were definitely reports of Prior being sour on Hendry/Baker and the feeling was supposedly mutual. I can't remember if there were any public comments, though. i remember an odd interview with prior on the mac, jurko and harry show back in '03 or '04 where he expressed dismay about how the cubs marketed him and also the team, but he didn't want to go into detail about specifics. thought it was kinda weird for him to say that since outside of going to a random sports authority in schaumburg to sign baseballs for kids and parents, i never thought he was over or under marketed by the team.
  11. i don't think you can blame your pitching coach when your entire bullpen sucks. you can't shine [expletive].
  12. i prefer to have a respectable ballclub out on the field than the total suckage we've been seeing for the last 11 going on 12 games (or the last 9 weeks, depending on your point of view), but out of curiosity, who would you have signed and/or traded during the offseason to make this team better? i don't like the white flag lineup that's out there today as much as the next person, but outside of pujols/cj wilson/darvish/fielder, what were the better options in the free agent and trade market that would have taken the place of darwin barney, jeff baker, joe mather and the like?
  13. Agreed. But what's funny is that just about 10 days ago, they were really actually very enjoyable to watch. There will be another stretch like that again this season. Hopefully, it will be by the time you get to watch them. that's what i'm hoping. they had my hopes up before the last game of the cardinals series a few weeks back, but then they proceed to take a never-ending [expletive] for the next two weeks. perhaps i'll be lucky enough to see rizzo in the lineup during that time.
  14. i'm still going to check them out when they come to citi field in early july, but my god is this team tough to watch. :banghead:
  15. at first glance, it looks like #27, but the "2" looks like the letter N. the last name seems to start with a P, i was thinking angel pagan, but he wore #29.

  17. i was either 4 or 5. cubs faced the cardinals at wrigley during the summer and we left early because either ozzie smith was kicking our [expletive] and it was overcast and about to rain...thinking '87 or '88 here. 2nd game was in '92 vs. the dodgers. crowd kept yelling DARRYL DARRYL every time strawberry was up at bat. i remember leaving school early that day (like 11am or something) to go to the game. i don't remember who won.
  18. It is a Wednesday afternoon in April. And not a particularly warm one. Did anyone catch the official attendance? Last year, Wednesday day games in April drew 32k and 36k pat hughes said it was close to 34K.
  19. all of lionel messi's 234 goals throughout his career: http://kottke.org/12/03/all-of-lionel-messis-234-goals not sure how long that video is going to be up, so watch it while you can.
  20. nah. http://images.wikia.com/muppet/images/4/44/Rizzo1.jpg Lol, this. Showing my age, but I think of Rizzo from MASH. frank rizzo from the jerky boys pops into my head... http://www.fizzkicks.com/static/usermedia/band/128/images/1192113680.jpg
