  1. I don't hate him, I dislike that he gets too much credit for games like today. If the media would say that Tebow is a good game manager on a team that is playing outstanding defense with a really good kicker, then I wouldn't mind him at all. But who in the (respected) media says that he is a great QB like Rodgers, Brees, or Brady? I think most of the people I hear (Mad Dog, ATH or PTI) look at it for what it is: he's getting great breaks and doesn't turn the ball over. So he's winning. I don't think anyone thinks he is as good as them, but there are plenty that think is much more than just a game manager. Did Trent Dilfer get this much hype when he won the Super Bowl with Baltimore.
  2. I actually agree...I think he is setting himself up for a serious PR hit for something trivial.

  4. You watched the game and you cant figure out why people hate Tebow? This is probably the 3rd most improbable win of the season for him (with the game against Miami and last week against the Vikings being more improbable). He sucks the entire game and you get lulled into a sense of security and then randomly every single thing goes right for him and your head is spinning as you sit there realizing you lost. THEN you add the religious [expletive] to it and thats why he's hated now. In college it was a little different because he was actually sorta good at that level. I think most of the dislike for Tebow comes down to him being over hyped by the media. He is basically the Justin Beiber of football. Religion has next to nothing to do with why people dislike him. It does for me. But that's my issue. would you care about his religion if he wasn't over hyped?
  5. Regardless of whether you think he was great or not, the point is that he was about a 1000 times better in the 4th quarter than the first 3 quarters. The defense definitely backed off and that helped, but he was throwing balls all over the place except at the receiver in the first 3 quarters and then in the 4th quarter they were darts right to them. He wasn't good in the 4th quarter until the Bears went into prevent the last 2 drives.

  7. I dont think Tebow was really that good down the stretch. The Bears changed their defense and couldn't get any pressure with their 4 man front. Hanie would have been just as effective in Tebow's place.
  8. How do you mean flex their muscles? I think it would be easy to make some knee jerk moves that will really improve the Cubs chances this year. I would rather lay a foundation that improves the Cubs chances every year. Since the playoffs are a crap shot at times, I would prefer that the Cubs make the playoffs as often as possible. I am not against getting Fielder or Darvish or anyone that has talent, but I would be very wary of giving multiple contracts this off season that will turn into big gambles over several years because their appears to be a chance at a chance this year. If the downside of Fielder and Darvish come true, we could easily be in worse shape in 3 yrs than we are now. Define foundation? Isn't signing Fielder and/or Darvish laying a foundation? It may be or they may both really have bad contracts in 3 yrs. If you truly believe that it is foundation building, than yes make the deals. If however you think that there is a good chance that they may be bad contracts down the road than I do not think it is a good idea to sign them just because the Cards and Brewers may struggle to win 85 games this year.
  9. Without even clicking that link, I'll ask: who won the Big Ten that year? I know who win the whole thing that year :) Yeah, led by that guy who's homeless now. I thought they were led by the guy who tapped Palin, with a lot of other really good parts. It is something to think about a time when Big Ten basketball was far and away the best in the country.

If the downside of Fielder and Darvish come true, we could easily be in worse shape in 3 yrs than we are now. Flexing their muscles by signing free agents (I'm thinking Fielder, specifically). I'm not sure why every time someone posts that they want to sign free agents, they should also be required to post "to a non-crazy contract." That seems implicit. Of course I don't want Fielder signed to a 10-year, $250-million contract a la Pujols. Of course I don't want knee-jerk moves. I do, however, want moves designed to win this year. That's going to have to entail signing, or trading for, an elite player(s). As Theo said, winning is precious. Winning in the NL Central has just become much, much easier and the Cubs should seize on this precious opportunity. So the Reds are probably the favorite at this point and I think the Cubs are still behind the Cardinals. What would you suggest the Cubs do to get past them, beyond signing Fielder?

  12. no kidding, I was shocked when I heard his comments. No doubt that Cincinnati's coach was much better post game.
  13. I do not follow the NFL that much. Why is Mora Jr a bad hire? Is it just because he was not good at the NFL level or is there some other thinking? Was it just not a sexy enough hire? I can think of a couple of coaches who flopped at the NFL level who were good college coaches. I am not saying that Mora will succeed but I am not sure what the thought process is that he will be unsuccessful.
  14. I don't understand. Why would ESPN even care about this? I love trashing ESPN with the rest of them, but we are talking about a network that held on to the recording of Fine's wife for 9 yrs. I don't think they would go out on a limb to throw Braun under the bus unless they had some good sources.
  15. This was the thought that came to me. The division was already looking very weakened with Pujols and Prince both leaving it. Now with Braun out for 50 games, the Brewers (who I consider the only actual good team in the division) may well not be able to reach that 90 win mark. This makes it that much more possible for the Cubs to contend in 2012 and that much more important that we don't engage in a 3-5 year unnecessary rebuilding process. I think the Cardinals are still going to be pretty good with Wainwright, Carpenter and Garcia at the top of their rotation. They won't be a World Series team again, but they'll be pretty good. The Cubs' chances have certainly improved in the past few days, but I don't see Theo/Jed doing anything too divergent from their strategy just because of Braun. I think a lot of people are forgetting the Reds were also quite a bit better than the Cubs last season. I think all this regression by the Cubs competition is good, but I think the Reds are much closer right now than the Cubs are to taking advantage.
  16. Why? Because he wasn't as valuable as Kemp. Also because he did steroids. So and So um voters get MVP wrong all the time and many players take PEDs. So and So

  18. Reading the Brewers board it would seem that many fans are shocked and surprised. How can anyone be surprised by a player testing positive for PEDs? It would not surprise me one bit if any Cub tested positive, even ones that I like.
  19. my dad says almost the exact same thing when talking about Rick Porcello
  20. Missourri was always sympathetic to the slave holders. I just like to mention that every WS that Musial ever won were when a large portion of able body men were fighting in WW2
  21. I am tiring of all the Musial references from Cardinal fans. Musial was a lifelong Card, blah blah blah. It is a terrible comparison, Musial played under the reserve clause, he had no choice but to do what the Cards wanted.
  22. oops...misread. After thinking about it, I wondered why the Yankees would be a mystery team. I would think that Pujol's agent would make sure there was not mystery if it was the Yankees.
  23. Would the Yankees really need to trade Teixeira to sign Pujols? DH is not locked up there. However, I would think that Teixeira should be able to nab a really good starting pitcher.
  24. If he doesn't get slapped with show cause I think he'd be a great hire. I would have loved him at A&M. I have been telling Illinois fans that they probably couldn't do better than Tressel. I am not saying he is innocent or didn't deserve to be fired, but I think that what he did is probably happening in most of your big time football programs. It is not like Tressel was actually paying players or hiring others to do his players schoolwork. I think there is no doubt Illinois would be a better program if they hired Tressel.
