  1. Could you imagine a Wings-Hawks Cup Finals? It would be so bad ass, though after a few years of not playing as much might make it even cooler, say 3 years from now. I am pretty sure Dusty Babcock and Ken Hendry will keep the Wings out of the SCF by making roster decisions.
  2. I really am having a hard time picking someone out of the West other than the Hawks. The Kings are the only team that I could make a good argument for at this point.
  3. There is. It's called the criminal justice system. Those accused of crimes have either already had their day in court (Sandusky) or will soon (Schultz, Curley, Spanier). I was being sarcastic...sorry should have used green font
  4. I wish there was some way to not punish the current coaches and players at PSU while still laying out punishment on those who were guilty of crimes. Too bad that does not seem possible. More seriously though the only reason I wanted PSU to receive NCAA sanctions was to punish the meatball fans and the Franco Harris types. If that could happen without the probation I would be good
  5. Wow. Clarkson is basically an older Bickell. I heard on NHL Radio that they are likely to let Phanuef walk as a result. I was hoping the Wings would make a move for Clarkson, but I was thinking more like 4 to 4.5 a yr and not 7 yrs either. Just another example of how the NHL should lock some of their own owners out and not the players.
  6. at this point maybe we should just start to count the number of ncaa football programs that AREN'T blatantly breaking ncaa rules. I think the new wave of investigative reporting that is going on is only going to show what most people probably already knew.
  7. when I turned my parlay picks into my local business broker, he mentioned I was one of a small group of people who did not take Cincinnati at -8. I just think there is something really odd about such an obvious pick, so I avoided it
  8. Marcel Dionne
  9. I think the Hawks are wise to not jettison Crawford just because of the system of that they may have someone else who can do a competent job. That being said, this deal really only makes sense if they believed that Crawford would be worth more next off-season. I have a hard time seeing that. I do not think anyone thinks Crawford is some sort of elite game/series stealing goalie. They only thing that I think could happen is that he has less value next off-season...which of course will make this deal look bad.
  10. I am surprised Detroit is included. I have been there for several Wings games and there are plenty of Wings fans, but it is not nearly as many that used to be in Chicago or Columbus. Maybe the Wings game is just a usual sell out and that is the Blues way of getting fans to buy tix to other games...similar I suppose to why opening night against the Preds is part of that plan.
  11. Was George Costanza following them into the delivery room?
  12. 5 posts on Kansas fb makes me long for the days when this thread was all about Manziel and ND
  13. I assume that means Sandberg will be the new Phillies manager. Something, something paid his dues, something played the game the right way, etc My dad always complained that Sandberg never "got dirty"....not sure he really played the game the right way :).
  14. I think all the solutions have problems. I hate shoot outs, but I understand those who want the game to resolve somehow. To me just calling it a tie is fine. My biggest fear is that shoot outs will eventually become part of playoff hockey. I think those who dismiss this as a possibility under-rate how dumb the NHL can be sometimes.
  15. Fixed to gain more national appeal I'd guess. Anyways, some of the suggestions were ok, a lot I think terrible I am all for either getting rid of OT/shootouts or extending OT to 10 mins with no points to the loser. Calling obstruction would go along way to increasing scoring if that is what he really thinks will improve the game. I am not sure 80s level of scoring makes the game better for me to watch though.
  16. personally I do not care how they spin it, it does not seem right that ARod is getting waaaay more punishment than others. It seems either vindictive or as a way for the Yankees to get out from under a lot more money.
  17. He can chose to not play college football. I understand what you are saying but it is not like these rules are new or that Manziel needs the money.
  18. I always thought that once you got past all the Ozzie drama and crap, that he was actually a decent manager. There is just no way I would want all the other stuff that came with him.
  19. So I watched South Carolina twice last season so I may not be the best guy to judge. I saw them play early in the year and almost lose to Vanderbilt I think and I watched them play Michigan in whatever bowl. Except for the "play" where the Michigan rb gets de-helmeted, I barely noticed him in those games. Lewan really had Clowney under control most of the game. Clowney was left un-blocked on the "play". Couple that with a player with too-much hair for his helmet and it looks great, but was not really that great of an individual play. Is he really this clear cut number one without any doubt talent or is it somewhat over-hyped?
  20. Looking at Detroit's schedule and it really lacks zip. Not playing the old Norris rivals is going to kind of put a damper on the regular season for a couple of years. There is going to be a big push to renew the old Wings/Leafs rivalry, which may work but lacks luster right now. I will miss playing the Hawks and Blues.
  21. Johnny Manziel is the Anti-Tebow
  22. Not sure what his motivations are? He surely could have gotten more years somewhere else. Not at 6 mill per, but it would have been more money. He must think this is his best bet to win a cup and is willing to do a one year deal. Hossa was still in his 20s when he made the one year deal with the Wings, so the gamble was not as big. He was still going to get a pay day and could be selective on where he went, which ended up working out great for him. If Iginla does not have a good season this year and Boston does not win the Cup, he will end up losing a bunch of money and may never get a Cup. Boston seems to be going all-in this year because the Sequin trade will probably end up being a bad trade. Losing players like Ference and Peverly will end up hurting also. Eriksson and Iginla give them some more fire power...not sure they are better without everyone I mentioned plus Horton.
  23. I like Horton. He had several good years in Florida before he went to the Bruins. 7 yrs is kind of a long deal, but I think 5.25 a year is probably fair.....if he can stay healthy. Columbus is probably in a position that they have to gamble a little more than other teams in the FA market to get top tier players. If Gaborik keeps playing like he did when he finished with Columbus, they should be playoff contenders next year. The Pens and the Rangers are the only 2 teams in their division that I think are better than Columbus right now On another subject. Looking at some of the moves and new divisions, I think Vancouver will have a hard time making the playoffs. They have gotten a lot of points the last few years by playing in the weakest division. They only have Edmonton and Calgary left from that division. Edmonton is getting better. Plus they will not be competing with SJ, LA, Anaheim and Phoenix. Only 3 teams are guaranteed playoff spots. I do not think it would be surprising at all if the Canucks did not make the playoffs
  24. Manny Machado has 39 doubles!!
