    I often have wondered if Illinois fans were really that whiny or was it just something I noticed more with them more because I live close to Champaign. Outside of Michigan I have never lived anywhere else long enough to get a feel for the fan base. I assume every fan base has its whiny element of course, but it really does seem ingrained in a lot Illinois fans.

    I think Russia/Finland will beat a depleted Swedish team. Sweden probably had the easiest group and were not very impressive. US ends up with a tough road.

    Pavelski and Kane have been great most the 2nd half of the game for US. They have to stay on the same line going forward I would think.

    I think interference getting called more consistently also helps the pace. I think that is something the NHL could easily do and have at times tried, but do not carry through.

    I understand that they have to create hype...but the only thing that the current USA/Russia game has in common with the USA/USSR game in 1980 is that they are Olympic games.

    I hope it doesn't come out at some point hat Jeter was on PEDs. I have heard at least 3 different people talk about how he has been a light in a very dark period for MLB. I thought it odd that anyone would assume that any player is clean and make such a statement.

    So they want to kill end of game comebacks? Hilariously, the proposal, which is submitted out of concern for "player safety", has an exception for the last two minutes of a half. It's wildly stupid, but given the current substitution rules, in practice it would only be a very minor annoyance for all but the most extreme tempo teams. For example, Matt Hinton tweeted that Oregon took 20.4 seconds per snap this year. Freeze or someone said that even at max speed, they rarely get a play off in under 10 seconds. Of course, if the rules prohibits something that never happens, why have the rule? As a small time D-coordinator(jr hi:)) it is not that the team snaps in 10 secs or 20 or whatever, it is that they can. It is very hard to sub against no huddle period, subs and player coming out need to know before previous play.

    So powerful programs already circumvent scholarship limits by over-signing and axing the unwanted...now they want to create a rule would limit well coached offensive teams from finding a niche to help them compete against more talented bigger schools. I understand that this is probably small potatoes, but it does reek of helping bigger more talented teams.

    I know I have faulty memory but I thought he was PTBNL because he was injured at the time of the trade. Either way I would still say he was the main piece. When fans cry about how Cub prospects have always failed I try to point to the early 2000s as the last time the system was really good and that it did net the Cubs a pretty solid core of players. And 2 players who had good yrs in 2003 but fell off the map afterward for different reasons(prior and Cpatt)

    And before you clowns start up with the jokes, murdering videographers is NOT bending the rules. when its against the rules to kill students and cover up rape only outlaws will kill students and coverup rape where's the angst over UM's kicker being kicked out of school for raping a girl 4 years after the crime, coincidentally just weeks after he, and his 5-star OT friend who threatened the victim, had used up all their eligibility? Oh, and the student paper that first reported on the 4 years between crime and punishment got banished from the press conference about it that Hoke held on Monday. Probably because the couple of Michigan fans that post here do not point out how their program is on some sort of higher moral ground.

    This is the saddest thread. It really reminds us that prospects are not remotely guarantees. I have more confidence on our current regime and system to come through, but at the end of the day, the great plan is simply a venture. Some top 100 prospects of 2001: Montanez -100, Christensen 49, Juan Cruz - 47, Zambrano - 30, Choi - 28, Corey Patterson - 5. In 2002: Kelton - 74, bobby hill - 79, Zambrano - 72, Choi -68, Cruz - 14, Prior - 2. Out of that whole group we netted a front line starter in Prior, and MOR starter in Zambrano a couple years of Patterson and Cruz, and Choi for Lee. Think about our current top 10. Almost half never see the majors, 1 becomes a role player, 1 goes in nice trade, one becomes above average and two potential stars that fall to injury. Again, I think chances are better this go round, but holy cow, that's depressing. If you think big Z was a middle of the rotation starter me and you are going to have words. Wasn't Bobby Hill the centerpiece in the ARam trade?

    I think when ranking teams before last season Yahoo had the Dodgers, Angels and Blue Jays all in the top 5. They are easily impressed by teams that add shiny things, so I am sure what the Cubs are doing is rather frustrating to them. So I really don't care that much if Passon disagrees with our ownership.
