They were fortunate to make the playoffs, let alone win it all. I have much more respect for their '05 team. Building a strategy to try to duplicate an 83-win division winner is aiming much, much too low. -
This could be the first time that action was actually taken against an official in any sport, at least as far back as I can remember. Actually, now that I think of it, wasn't Crawford disciplined before for goading players and given a short leash? Somewhere around 2002, 2003. That could also explain the action. Officials need to be suspect to the same rules and discipline that the players are suspect to. Maybe then the officiating will actually improve. NBA refs are the worst of any pro sport, and something needs to be done.

I find the most astounding thing about the Knicks collapse is that they are falling below teams that have been practically trying to tank the season, even though the Knicks can't improve their draft position at all by losing. Either that, or the Knicks are tanking anyway and nobody happened to mention to them that it's not their pick.

Cleveland's win locks up homefield advantage in the first round for them. Miami will be the 4 seed, going on the road to Cleveland or Chicago. EDIT: Actually, Miami can still technically get the 3 seed if Toronto loses 3 games.

Why? Would be a great win, but why is it must-win? The Cavs have a game left at Detroit as well. If we want any hope of that 1 seed, it's a must-win. Sorry for leaving that out. With the Sheed miracle as well as their 4th quarter rallies against the Nets and the Heat today, I think that's all but out of the possibility. Probably. Right now we'd play Washington, correct? Butler just went out with a broken hand. That's a 40mpg, 19ppg starter. That's got to hurt, no matter what. Well, if Washington falls behind Miami, and Toronto can keep the 3 seed, the 5 seed would open up against the Heat. I'd much prefer NJ or Orlando in the first round.

As do I. Me 3. :D 4 Jay Mariotti was on Around the Horn yesterday, bragging that he had 3 of his 4 Final Four teams left... uh, there are two #1s and two #2s left Jay. That's really not a big accomplishment. Especially when ESPN's National Bracket (the national average bracket) has 4 of 4 teams right.

Only fitting that the Illini choke away a big lead down the stretch to end the season, as that's the only thing they've really been good at offensively this year. Just poor decision making, nobody to go to late in the game, nobody that wants to shoot the ball, and nobody that can create their own shot.

It's an odd tournament, in that all the better teams (in terms of team efficiency) actually won their games yesterday, save 1. Even then, it was the closest game of the night. If that is to continue holding to form, there will be quite a few more seed upsets today. - Georgia Tech is a more efficient team than UNLV. - Purdue is a more efficient team than Arizona. - Illinois is a more efficient team than Virginia Tech (about 99.99% of this is their defense). - Arkansas is a more efficient team than USC. - Creighton is a more efficient team than Nevada. Closest matchups of the day are Illinois-VT, Arkansas-USC, Purdue-Arizona, and Kentucky-Villanova

GW was horribly overseeded, probably based only on name. They were not a good team this year, even in the A-10.

Here are the 22 "expert" picks, courtesy of Ken Pomeroy: West: UCLA 11, Kansas 10, Virginia Tech 1 South: Texas A&M 11, Ohio St. 8, Memphis 2, Virginia 1 East: Georgetown 11, UNC 9, Texas 2 Midwest: Florida 22 Oddly enough, Florida is statistically (via log5) the least likely 1 seed to make the Final Four, and yet they are the only favored 1 seed among the experts. My picks depend on the day, but for now I have Maryland, UCLA, Texas, and Ohio State, with UCLA beating Ohio State for the championship.

My first-round upsets are Albany over Virginia, Illinois over Virginia Tech, VCU over Duke, Texas Tech over BC, ODU over Butler and Creighton over Nevada.

Well, at least Illinois' spot in the tourney should end all the whining about their schedule and how they never went to play in Columbus... ...as they are going to play in Columbus this Friday. :)
