  1. I think Lou wants Howry to go multiple innings, and that's why Fontenot had to come in. Of course it's going to be hard to do that if the defense behind Howry makes him throw a ton of pitches in inning #1. That still makes no sense because Ronny hit in the pitcher's spot right in front of Soriano who made the last out. Ramirez came out, so if you keep Cedeno in, Howry goes into the 4 spot.
  2. Yes, because nobody touched the ball before it hit the ground.
  3. He did very little. He basically jogged in for a lazy pop fly, except he ended up in a spot 3 feet to the left of the ball.
  4. Just want to point out ahead of time if this becomes a big inning, that Howry began it by inducing a grounder to Lee and a lazy pop fly to left.
  5. Yeah, that useless Pie, with one of the hits tonight.
  6. Soriano unable to pick that breaking ball off the bounce.
  7. No time like the present for Soriano to snap out of the early season funk.
  8. Now I just hope that they don't pitch around Cedeno to get to Soriano.
  9. Cards putting a righty in to face Cedeno. Apparently LaRussa doesn't know Cedeno's splits.
  10. Yes, it's not like he's been hitting .300 since Piniella and Perry have worked with him or anything...
  11. Why did the Illini lose players too? You guys were doing all the talking last year. I think that was what he was implying. Illini fans gain respect for Crean, less whining about IU or their coach.
  12. Even if the Cubs get swept this weekend, there are still 120 games to play on the year, and the Cubs are above .500 with three pitchers clicking and without one of their best hitters doing anything.
  13. Come on, man. What is that his 3rd blown save already this year? Plus the horrible outing in game one. I have had enough of the Wood for closer experiment. I agree, Marmol to closer. Sorry Kerry, but in save situations this year he has been terrible. So you'd rather have Wood/Howry coming in for difficult situations like the one Marmol came in for today? Right. The Cubs lost because of Wood. Your best reliever should be your closer. So, today, if Marmol is the closer, who pitches with 2 on, 1 out in the 7th, and then the 8th, to preserve the 2 run lead?
  14. To clarify, since Pie worked with Perry and Lou: Felix "Has no business being in the majors" Pie: 5-17, 1 HR, 3 BB, 5 K, .294/.386/.471/.857, 4 starts Reed "Ideal leadoff hitter" Johnson: 7-33, 3 BB, 6 K, .212/.278/.212/.490, 8 starts GET OFF PIE'S BACK!
  15. No he hasn't actually. He started off 5-10, but is 0-7 since with 5 strikeouts and a GIDP. Good enough for .294/.386/.471. He started out 5-10 when he started 3 days in a row. Since then, he's started once in the past 6 games and has gone 0-7 with 5 Ks and 2 BBs.
  16. He is 4 for what 7 in save chances? He also was god awful on opening day. He hasn't gotten the job done. Opening day was the other bad outing. He's given up 2 runs in 12 innings outside those two outings.
  17. What the heck is with the vitriol towards Pie? He's hit well since they worked with his swing, and the only way that's a DP ball is if he hit it on the screws, so it must have been hit well. Also, Wood. He didn't have it today, obviously. But the overreaction to his overall performance this year is pathetic. He's had two bad outings this year. Oh no, he's useless!
  18. When was the last time Kerry pitched? Counsell, PH (Kapler?), Kendall in the 9th.
  19. Fukudome not having a great day on the bases (or in the field..) today. However, he is always on the bases, and there's much to be said for that.
  20. Honestly, I'd rather have Theriot than Soriano batting at this point in the year.
  21. Do the Brewers still have 14 pitchers? Curious because the P spot is up second in the ninth. Kapler and Hardy are left, I know, and the backup C.
  22. Realistically, these are even matchups. Taking into account how they've all pitched so far this year, though, the Cubs could have a rough go of it this weekend.
  23. Just the same, I'd rather him in here to preserve a slight lead against the Brewers than plan ahead for maybe needing to use him an inning tomorrow in St. Louis.
