  1. Not a ton. It's mostly affected by the small number of plate appearances. Pie is definitely much closer to Soriano as a hitter than Fukudome in terms of patience and discipline. However, he's been a very productive hitter at every phase of the minor leagues, and he'll be a productive hitter on the major league level if given the chance. The real Felix is much closer to his production over the past two weeks than it is to his production over the first two weeks.
  2. What, in major league play, shows you that Felix Pie is a better hitter than Reed Johnson? You can show me all the projections in the world from baseballprospectus that tells you that, but that doesn't mean jack. Felix Pie has been a disappointment this year. He strikes out at an high rate, and doesn't walk. If that doesn't scream Corey Patterson to Cubs fans, nothing will. Felix has looked overmatched this year many times. This year OPS vs. right handers: .603 .661 Guess which one is Felix and which on is Johnson. Don't want to talk about Pie's .224 batting average? Or his horrible .291 obp? Don't want to talk about Pie's .333 batting average over the last 2 weeks since Lou and Gerald worked on his swing with him? Or his horrible .400 obp?

Here, forgive me for quoting myself from another thread: They took the time to work on Pie's swing, and despite a marked improvement, they refuse to give him an equal share of playing time. Reed Johnson has been awful the past two weeks, and that includes his two good games against lefties. The only thing Reed Johnson has been doing better than Pie over the past couple weeks is leaning into pitches.
  4. Continuing to start Reed Johnson over Felix Pie against righties is mind-boggling moronic. Pie gives you more power, faster speed on the basepaths, better average, and better defense.
  5. I feel the need to keep up the "Free Pie" promotion. So, stats since Lou and Gerald worked with Pie on his swing (April 21 vs. Mets, so now there have been a total of 11 games): Felix Pie: 5 starts, 25 PA, 7 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, .333/.400/.523/.923 Reed Johnson: 10 starts, 50 PA, 8 H, .190/.280/.190/.470 Lou, play the hot hand in center, for once.
  6. Remember, there is a time delay between live action and the picture you see. I wonder if the scoreboard guy screwed up a bit.
  7. Yes, but it was almost as if the Cub coaching staff asked for it by holding him out for 9 days since his last start.
  8. The ump stretched both his arms out and called "safe".
  9. Honest question? Honest answer: HBP on hand/wrist. He went back out there for a bit, but they took him out later due to it. It didn't look good at the time, but he's sitting in the dugout chatting it up with Lou, so who knows.
  10. HBP on the hand. Left the game from that. Nobody sure what's up, but it didn't look good.
  11. Isringhausen is such a sham closer. Time to end the experiment.
  12. This game is starting to look eerily similar to yesterday.
  13. Hit by a pitch on the hand. Didn't look very good, but nobody really knows anything yet. Ouch. Also, skimming through here it seems like Soriano has had a particularly bad game. I read about the missed flyball, what else has he done bad? Two missed flyballs in the same inning leading to a run, two bad strikeouts with runners in scoring position on pitches nowhere near the plate.
  14. I'm sure you had no idea that what is being said in the game thread is generally taken in context of the current game.
  15. Hit by a pitch on the hand. Didn't look very good, but nobody really knows anything yet.
  16. Are you seriously blaming Howry? He got 6 outs in a row. i was at the game the on Wednesday night and watched Howry give up 2 on the hardest hit homer I've ever seen. have you watched Howry yet this year? 6 outs? nicely placed... I wasn't aware this was the Wednesday game thread.
  17. Molina chatting with Franklin deciding whether they'd rather pitch to DeRosa or Soto.
  18. Bob explaining how much sense it would have made to keep Cedeno in and hit Ward here.
  19. What exactly has Howry done to warrant this? He's pitched just fine. watch many games this year, dude? Are you watching this game, "dude"?
  20. Yeah, for some reason, Howry, Murton and Pie have been criticized this inning, because of things Soriano did.
  21. Yeah, this is totally Howry's fault for allowing balls to be hit in play.
  22. Another routine fly to left, deep but Soriano was right under it. He hopped and missed it, it bounced into the stands.
