  1. Was anyone in the NL ever 20 games over .500 at any point last year? EDIT: Arizona was 90-70 before dropping their last 2...looking for others...
  2. More notes on the Cubs home ridiculousness... The Cubs have won their last 14 home games. Their last home loss was...May 17, when Nate McLouth hit a 2-run HR off Marmol in the 9th, and the Pirates came back to win by 1, 7-6. Before that, four days prior, to SD, when Marquis blew a 3-run lead by giving up a 4 spot in the 5th, and the Cubs lost 4-3. Before that, the prior homestand finale against Milwaukee, when Wood blew a 3-1 lead in the 9th and the Cubs lost 4-3. If they had simply held on to win those three games, the Cubs would currently be riding a 25 game home winning streak.
  3. The Cubs are 2-4 at home vs. the Brewers, and 30-4 at home against the rest of the majors.
  4. The Cubs have the best record in baseball by 2 games, and are still underplaying their Pythagorean by 1 game. The second best team in the majors by Pythagorean? The White Sox.
  5. When we launch a forum specifically designed to lament about the White Sox, we can begin to talk about the lack of differences between the fanbases. The biggest difference between the boards is in the administration and moderation, which really says a lot about how well this board is moderated, for the most part.
  6. What's the point of constantly posting exerpts from another message board over here? I'm not even talking once in the thread, or once in an hour, but every post in the thread... For all that people think Sox fans are obsessed with the Cubs, there are people in this thread showing there isn't a lot of difference between the fanbases.
  7. Trading actual players for another team's reliever has shown time and again to be a bad idea.
  8. that's some epic, hard-hitting journalism right there. Yeah, that's pretty much scraping the underside of the barrel there to find something to be upset about. I'm not upset, he's right. I just don't see the point in even saying something like that. Thats why I said it was Mike Davis-esque. I was referring more to Bozich, who comes off as a real prick in that article.
  9. that's some epic, hard-hitting journalism right there. Yeah, that's pretty much scraping the underside of the barrel there to find something to be upset about.
  10. This is a strong possibility. All that crystal meth eventually takes its toll. [-X I will confidently say not all White Sox fans are idiots. Not that anyone's really taking things seriously at all.
  11. And you've married this woman? [-( What can I say, she's the most wonderful woman in the world, and she loves AJP. It's like a paradox.
  12. AJP is my wife's favorite player. She has his jersey and wears it all the time. She's also met him and swears he's a nice guy away from the game.
  13. I like to think the worst part of that 2004 Zambrano-Kazmir trade was that Kazmir was likely already better than Zambrano at the time.
  14. Well, Scott Kazmir is certainly no Victor Zambrano.
  15. I don't know, I saw that movie and that scenario was probably much better than this one...
  16. Two holes left now, Rocco still up 1.
  17. Rocco birdies 15 too, and now leads by 1.
  18. Woods was up 3 strokes after 10, but now it's all tied up after 14.
  19. I think there's an important distinction to be made between the Cubs playing "over their heads", and the Cubs playing better than anyone really expected at the beginning of the year. The second part is definitely true. Even if everyone is simply producing as projected, the Cub fan in all of us couldn't have foretold that it would work out that well. In terms of overall production related to wins, any method you look at suggest the Cubs are actually playing right according to production, and the Cubs are producing about as well as predicted. Sure, DeRosa didn't decline, Theriot became more patient, and Dempster has worked out better than imagined. Also, Lilly was awful for two months, Hill isn't even in the rotation after being replaced by average innings from Gallagher, and Lee is underperforming his projections. All in all, it evens out.
  20. Looks like everybody won the last HOF game.
  21. Man, this Blue Jays roster is a who's who of "what ever happened to that guy?" ball players. Matt Stairs, Lyle Overbay, Scott Rolen, David Eckstein, Brad Wilkerson, Kevin Mench, Rod Barajas, Scott Downs, A.J. Burnett. The team is built around Wells, Halladay and RIos, with the rest filled in with inexpensive role-player vets. I suppose that's one way to do it when the payroll is so limited.
  22. That's not even the issue. A ball off the top of the wall is NOT a home run either way. The issue was whether or not it hit the ivy behind the wall and then bounced off the top of the wall.
  23. I think there are a lot of people who have no problem cheering all the Cubs except Edmonds.
  24. Nobody is saying Lee has been terrible. You are just assuming because some of us don't think he's an All-Star that means we think he's terrible, and then using absolutely no statistical basis for your opinion. He should get better, but up to this point he in now way deserves All-Star consideration. He'll get it, but he doesn't deserve it, and he certainly deserves less consideration than Soto, Ramirez, Fukudome, Soriano (although injured), Zambrano, Dempster, Wood, Marmol, Theriot and DeRosa. There's a difference between bashing a player and showing that he isn't perfect, or the best in the league.
  25. What stat do you want? 7th in the NL in slugging among 1B, 16th in the NL in OBP, 8th in OPS, 6th in HRs, 8th in batting average, 11th in walks, 7th in K's. 8th in RARP, 7th in VORP, 6th in EQR, 9th in Win Shares. He does lead the NL in DPs, though. And ABs. Nobody's hating on players. Some of us are just being realistic, and some of us are spouting nonsense to make themselves feel better about a baseless opinion. Derrek Lee has no business being an all-star this year based on numbers.
