  1. Has anyone mentioned that today's Padres lineup's offensive numbers look pitiful?
  2. Well, I think some people came up with nicknames, but those posts were deleted. I've yet to see a clever one that wasn't derogatory.
  3. Maddux has thrown 4 pitches outside the strike zone to Ramirez. He's thrown 7 pitches outside the zone to the rest of the team.
  4. Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome, Edmonds due up in the fourth for the Cubs. Yeah, still looks strange.
  5. Ump definitely seems to have a generous zone today, though.
  6. With some pitchers, too much patience can be a detriment, as the most hittable pitch you'll see will be the first one.
  7. Greg Maddux also doing his best Greg Maddux impression. 28 strikes, 8 balls. Theriot sees 4 pitches, but unfortunately for him 3 were strikes.
  8. Dempster on pace for a 72 pitch complete game.
  9. You misplay that ball and its an inside the park HR. For everyone except Henry Blanco.
  10. He spent hours practicing that while a Cub You mean deflecting the ball off the catcher's glove in such a precise way that it bounces straight back? Yes. His control is that good. He whispered three words in Rich Hill's ear, adding 5 MPH to his fastball. The catcher actually has a sign for that pitch. He points to a spot on the wall, then points to his mitt. Maddux knows what to do.
  11. Ronny just needed 8 pitches to get familiar with the game of baseball again.
  12. I'd be very amused if Edmonds had a 5-6 RBI day. Mostly because the Cubs would likely win.
  13. He has? For the last month, he's been playing as his career numbers indicate...decent against lefties, horrible against righties. except he's been hitting really badly against lefties, too. his l/r OPS are .001 apart. (much higher obp for lefties, slg for righties) Yeah, the HR was against a righty. Which is the sole reason the OPS's are anywhere close.
  14. That ended up being a lot of puns without intention. I hate this move not because of personal feelings towards Edmonds. Heck, if the Cubs somehow traded for Rick Ankiel to play CF, I'd be thrilled. I hate this move because what the Cubs can reasonably expect from Edmonds this year is worse than what the Cubs can reasonably expect with Pie. Why the Cubs don't see anything in Pie is beyond insane.
  15. Not a chance Lou doesn't split up the lefties. Whether it be moving Fukudome second, putting him between Lee and Ramirez, or moving Edmonds down, I'm 99.9% confident Lou will split them up in some way.
  16. What it should be: LF Soriano RF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez C Soto SS Theriot 2B DeRosa CF Edmonds/Johnson P What it likely will be: LF Soriano RF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez CF Edmonds C Soto SS Theriot 2B DeRosa P
  17. ...and not something in a way that would be demeaning towards homosexuals...or Felix Pie. This is the best I can come up with so far: - At least this time the Cubs bought low on a player.
  18. Is Acta the best because he hits Cristian Guzman and his lifetime .302 OBP in the 2 hole? And hits Felipe Lopez and his .328 OBP in the leadoff spot? Read the second post. Wait, I guess this is me assuming that you read the first post and didn't just see Acta's name and go CRISTIAN GUZMAN ZOMG!!1!!11!!!ONE!!! Your link doesn't work. Try this one.
  19. Alright! Mediocrity, here we come! That's quite optimistic of you, thinking he'll be mediocre.
  20. Starks was a Bull? Yes, for 4 games in 2000. Unless you were purposely blocking it from memory. It was 4 games. More like not worth wasting a memory on. Fair enough, but I think it works as a parallel. Starks was past his prime, hated by the fans, booed constantly when he played, and was quickly moved elsewhere because of it. This would be a best-case scenario that I could see with Edmonds. Although 4 NBA games is the equivalent to 2 weeks of Cubs games.
  21. Starks was a Bull? Yes, for 4 games in 2000. Unless you were purposely blocking it from memory.
  22. I'm going to have to start up a thread in Cubs discussions if this one goes really happens. The closest parallel I can think of to this would be when the Bulls traded for John Starks.
  23. I do find it at least partially amusing that there is currently a discussion whether Edmonds dying on the field would take too much focus away from a Cubs World Series win...
  24. Best thing I can think to say about this move: At least this time the Cubs are buying low.
