  1. Yeah. This is pretty old news, too. One of the original cast is going to be in the new series, too. I'd say "the one that had no career after the show ended" but that doesn't really narrow it down.
  2. It's much less worrying when you can see Helton throw his bat away in disgust If there were a way to describe that in Gameday, it would be hilarious. Like some stick figure at the plate throwing a fit.
  3. Eyre still struggling to find that outside corner.
  4. Soriano got a little more of it than Fontenot.
  5. The Cubs have actually only played 2 road games against the NL West thus far (Colorado, 1-1). 13 home games, though (3 vs. Ari, 4 vs. SD, 3 vs. LA, 3 vs. Col), and they're 12-1 in those games.
  6. Looks like a good time for the rain to kick in.
  7. I was seven, and '84 was really the first year I remembered much about following baseball. '85 just spiraled out of control in such a weird way.
  8. Yeah, it is not looking good out there to get this one in today.
  9. Wait...aren't the Cardinals currently 32-23? :)
  10. The 1985 Cubs were 35-19 at this point and finished 77-84. The 1969 Cubs were 37-17 at this point and finished 92-70.
  11. The Cubs are currently 21-5 against the NL West (Arizona/LA/Colorado/SD) and Pittsburgh, and 12-16 against everybody else (NY/Washington/Philly/St. Louis/Cincy/Milwaukee/Houston). Unfortunately, they have 25 games remaining against the NL West and Pittsburgh (3 vs. Colorado, 3 vs. Arizona, 6 vs. SF, 3 vs. SD, 4 vs. LA, 6 vs. Pittsburgh), and 83 games remaining against everybody else.
  12. This is never, ever, ever, ever happening. I wish people would stop talking about it. I wasn't aware that you had a say. I obviously won't go and bet that it will happen, but it's not the sure thing to not happen you keep making it out to be, especially if the Heat aren't interested in taking Beasley at #2. It just seems like the NBA equivalent of the "Murton, Wuertz and EPatt for Dunn? Too much?" trade offers that sometimes get thrown around. Seeing that no team has ever snagged the first two picks in a draft, and that this is regarded as a two-player draft, and that Paxson is notoriously uncreative and boring, and that NBA salary rules surrounding trades are really complex, it's not happening. Has anybody ever traded for the #2 pick in the draft without giving up a fairly high 1st round pick and/or a star player? If the Bulls also had like the 5th, or a player at all resembling a star, maybe they'd be able to work something out. But I agree it would be rather ridiculous to think they could get the 1 and 2. The Bulls did trade for the 2 pick 5 years ago when they already had the 4 pick. And that was just Brand ("just" meaning singular player, not intended to devalue the player) for the 2 pick, no strings attached. So I don't think it's absurd as some are making it out to be, especially since Miami is entertaining trade offers for the pick anyway, and before the Bulls knew they were getting the first pick, they were already in talks with Miami about trading Hinrich for their pick.
  13. What really ticks me off about it is that it should have been over at 115-120, but two IF errors kept the inning going.
  14. then what are they paying him for? does he sit all day in the corner and just masturbate? my whole point was if this guy was such a shrewd talent evaluator, maybe they'd have acquired a decent player or two during his tenure. i wasn't much blaming anybody, i just said that team's roster is awful. jesus, i don't even care that much about the guy either way. what's with this weird allegiance anyways? His tenure has been two months as an assistant to the GM. This is why blaming the current roster failure on DePo is silly. The allegiance stems from a management exec that is open about his decision making process on a blog, and takes SABR stats into account in the decision making process. His article today on why the Padres just made a trade is fascinating, really.
  15. Lou wanted another lefty, apparently. EDIT: Yet again, the organization cares more about what hand a guy throws or bats with than how well he performs with that hand. In fairness, though, Cotts has thrown well recently.
  16. Speaking of making fun of the Mets, one of the most respected Mets blogs out there, MetsGeek, decided they'd had enough of the Mets after their performance at the end of last year and the beginning of this one. They decided a couple days ago they were going to follow the Rays now. They are now RaysGeek.
  17. The only player that's really shortened his AB by swinging at pitches out of the zone is Zambrano. Soriano singled and popped out after a 6-pitch AB. Lowe has been throwing plenty of strikes. I think we should start hitting them hard then. Lowe has a 6.61 ERA away from Dodger Stadium this year. They hit him well in the first, just Lee with an at-em ball for a DP saved Lowe from trouble. Soto hit one on the screws too.
  18. :( We're well past the point in the season where this season's record, especially pythagorean record or third-order wins, has some predictive value :( Their Pythagorean and third-order are pretty much in line with their current record, 1 game off. The real issue is, can the players that are so vastly overperforming their predictions (Ludwick, Schumaker, Izturis, Wellemeyer, Looper, etc) continue this pace?
  19. The only player that's really shortened his AB by swinging at pitches out of the zone is Zambrano. Soriano singled and popped out after a 6-pitch AB. Lowe has been throwing plenty of strikes.
  20. It probably means that Mike is making another return They can use Collins until Rose is just about ready to take the team to the next level, then bring in Phil Jackson for 6 championships in 8 years.
  21. The Dodgers really do have a well-rounded team. 3-7 their lineup is solid, they have a solid 1-2 in the rotation and a solid pen. Hopefully, though, they don't realize it for the next 10 days.
  22. Voting also has the right division, wrong outfielders. McLouth, Bay, *cough*Ludwick*cough* are probably the best three NL outfielders at this point. Possibly Burrell too.
  23. I'm still secretly hoping Soto somehow misses the ASG, just because the man could use a 3-day break.
  24. If he had used the term "meatwad" would people have taken it better?
