    I think the real myth is that ending the All Star game in a tie was somehow a travesty that needed to be avoided at all costs.

    To play off that, I forget what it was, but I think either just before the TOR series, in the TOR series, or TB series; the string was snapped, of 20-some straight games that the Cubs had a lead in - or Len kept reminding us (not that I minded being kept in the know of such a stat). :wink: That streak was broken June 4 against the Pads, a 2-1 loss.

    Last year in the NL, the high water mark for any team was 21 games over .500, with the Mets (83-62) and Diamondbacks (88-67) both hitting that mark for a day before hitting losing streaks (Mets lost 12 of 17 to end the year, D-backs lost 5 of 7 to end the year)

    That US-Barbados game was so ugly the US might as well have held a drawing for 11 lucky fans to make the trip and play the field. "Here you go, just don't lose by 9."

    One more stat to hit ludicrous speed for the Cubs: The Cubs have held a lead in their last 34 home games, dating back to a 4-3 loss to the Astros on the 4th game of the season that, at the time, dropped their home record to 1-3. They did tie the game briefly in the bottom of the 7th, though.

    That's another point about this "magical ride" of a half-season... when the Cubs do lose, its by a run or 2 (save for the occasional aberration like the last night in TB). They have lost 2 home games by more than 3 runs. 9-2 to the Reds, when Lilly was still serving up BP, and 8-2 to the Brewers, when Lilly was still serving up BP.

    Was anyone in the NL ever 20 games over .500 at any point last year? EDIT: Arizona was 90-70 before dropping their last 2...looking for others...

    More notes on the Cubs home ridiculousness... The Cubs have won their last 14 home games. Their last home loss was...May 17, when Nate McLouth hit a 2-run HR off Marmol in the 9th, and the Pirates came back to win by 1, 7-6. Before that, four days prior, to SD, when Marquis blew a 3-run lead by giving up a 4 spot in the 5th, and the Cubs lost 4-3. Before that, the prior homestand finale against Milwaukee, when Wood blew a 3-1 lead in the 9th and the Cubs lost 4-3. If they had simply held on to win those three games, the Cubs would currently be riding a 25 game home winning streak.

    The Cubs are 2-4 at home vs. the Brewers, and 30-4 at home against the rest of the majors.

    The Cubs have the best record in baseball by 2 games, and are still underplaying their Pythagorean by 1 game. The second best team in the majors by Pythagorean? The White Sox.

    When we launch a forum specifically designed to lament about the White Sox, we can begin to talk about the lack of differences between the fanbases. The biggest difference between the boards is in the administration and moderation, which really says a lot about how well this board is moderated, for the most part.

    What's the point of constantly posting exerpts from another message board over here? I'm not even talking once in the thread, or once in an hour, but every post in the thread... For all that people think Sox fans are obsessed with the Cubs, there are people in this thread showing there isn't a lot of difference between the fanbases.

I just don't see the point in even saying something like that. Thats why I said it was Mike Davis-esque. I was referring more to Bozich, who comes off as a real prick in that article.

    AJP is my wife's favorite player. She has his jersey and wears it all the time. She's also met him and swears he's a nice guy away from the game.
