  1. McLouth just homered to bring the Pirates within 10-9.
  2. Thanks largely to Gallagher, the Cubs now have the best record in baseball and the largest divisional lead in baseball.
  3. The game was moved from 2:55 to 12:05 sometime in the last week, so the 2:55 information (and likely the FOX information) is dated.
  4. Don't look now, but for all the Cubs have seemed to struggle lately, they'll end the day with the best record in the majors.
  5. It would make me very happy to see the Gallagher/Murton trade propel the A's to the playoffs. It would make me very sad to see the Gallagher/Murton trade propel the A's to the world championship.
  6. Hopefully we can score enough with Harden so we don't have to finish with Wood tomorrow.
  7. Haha .. even Bob said Rammy admired it. I really don't have an issue with a batter watching that one, though. It was long gone, the only issue was fair or foul. If foul, why waste the energy running full-speed to first?
  8. You could say the same thing about several games the Cubs for all intents and purposes should've lost, but won anyway, like the 10-9 comeback win against Colorado, the stretch where they came back to win 6 games in a row at home, a couple extra-inning games in Pitt early on... It generally evens out.
  9. And for those of you getting on Wood, here's how the 9th inning went: Glorified 2-base error by DeRosa, 6-pitch walk (this is where someone could get on him), single on an eye-level fastball, 3-pitch strikeout looking, short fly to right, grounder to first.
  10. Anyone have the Pat/Ron call of the Ramirez HR?
  11. Wood didn't pitch yesterday The selective memory of a Cub fan, ladies and gentlemen. It's the same reason the 2003 playoffs ended midway through the NLCS, and the 1998 season was won on a one game playoff with the Giants.
  12. You know, the Cubs haven't had a 5 run inning in a while...
  13. I hate bunting with the #2 hitter, especially when he's been the hottest hitter on the team, and the opposing pitcher is a lot poorer against lefties.
  14. This is true. I would really enjoy seeing the other 2/3 of the game go exactly the same way.
  15. Marquis at 43 pitches through 3. Cain at 43 pitches through 2.
  16. Have the Cubs utilized a LF yet this year that doesn't have that effect?
  17. C'mon Marquis, that's his OPS that's at .405, not his OBP or SLG.
  18. Cain doesn't have the most efficient no-hitter going so far.
  19. Yeah, I couldn't imagine going 6 weeks without the Cubs' best hitter, or have their best pitcher on the DL... The Cubs havent went 6 weeks without their best hitter, or their 2nd best hitter. At best Soriano is our 3rd best hitter. He may be our best power hitter, but hes nowhere close to being our best hitter. Up until Sunday, he was still leading the team in HRs despite 2 DL stints this year, and he leads the team in SLG. He's arguably the most dangerous hitter in the lineup when he's healthy. When he was healthy in May, he was unquestionably the team's best hitter. So, to say nowhere close is a fallacy. Now, he's nowhere close to the most consistent hitter on the team, that's for sure. But when he's on, he's unstoppable. It could be said, though, at different points in the year, 5 players have been the Cubs best hitter, and I'm not talking 1 or 2 games. This is why the Cubs have been well suited to deal with injuries and slumps to offensive players this year. When Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Soto and Fukudome can all be fantastic players when hot, it only takes one or two of them being on to carry the team. That said, the remainder of the lineup is no slouch either with DeRosa, Theriot and heck, Edmonds.
  20. Hate to go there, but perhaps because he was white? Who was the first black MVP?
  21. Yeah, I couldn't imagine going 6 weeks without the Cubs' best hitter, or have their best pitcher on the DL...
  22. Yeah, I thought for sure Hairston was going to beat that out. As long as the Cubs can keep trading outs for runs, I'm still feeling alright.
