  1. The Dodgers have a 2.49 ERA against the Cubs this year and still went 2-5 against them.
  2. I knew they were 2-games over, just off by 2 on total games played.
  3. The Cubs are 7-5 against the Brewers. They can't have a losing record.
  4. So, what you're saying is that he is soft.
  5. The people who are acting like the result of this game has any bearing on the Cubs are very foolish. Wrong. Avoiding injury is the primary goal of this last week. Nothing else really matters at this point. To think otherwise is to needlessly worry about pointless crap. Of course, what else would the game thread be without worrying about pointless crap? you think who they face in the playoffs is pointless crap? Yes, the Cubs are far and away the best team in the NL. I actually think the Dodgers are a best-case scenario, and a Dodgers-Brewers NL playoffs would be extra-good. But, whoever they play, they will be favored and a better team.
  6. The people who are acting like the result of this game has any bearing on the Cubs are very foolish. Let's see, we could face the red hot Dodgers who have the best pitching in the league, a top offense since getting Manny, and have plenty of time to set their rotation and rest or We could play the Mets, their disastrous bullpen (which will probably be even more destroyed with a likely DH on Sunday and potential Monday game), a questionable rotation, and no Santana in game 1 Yeah, no difference. The best pitching of the league? Right. The most overrated pitching in the league, sure. The Dodgers have spent the last month playing nobody. Two weeks ago, people were begging for the Dodgers to pass the D-backs to play them, and now we're afraid of them? Please. The Dodgers are six games over .500. They are the worst team in the playoffs.

  9. If the Cubs are in the World Series, it would be a better home environment for all intents and purposes if the White Sox weren't.
  10. The second my wife needed brain surgery that would have a 50% mortality rate, I already forgot about the game.
  11. It looks like the Herald simply says it's likely DeRosa out for the rest of the season, which doesn't include any postseason games. This would only make reasonable sense, since there's no need to play hurt at this point of the season.
  12. Yeah, Milwaukee getting into the playoffs would put them against the Phillies or Mets. Still hoping for a somewhat intricate series of ties that doesn't include the Cubs playing Monday.
  13. I want to not see the Cubs play a game Monday, and see the Brewers, Mets and Phillies all tie.
  14. I'm shocked there were 5,000 unsold tickets?!?! Well, that was Thursday's game. This weekend there are likely no unsold tickets due to fans of the Iowa Cubs coming out to see their team.
  15. August 13, 1986 Exciting game that I remember for two things: 1 - Some scrawny no-hit rookie Pirate CF killing the Cubs all day with doubles and stolen bases (Guess who?). 2 - Shawon Dunston capped a comeback from a 5-1 deficit by hitting a go-ahead 2-run HR in the 8th, cementing him immediately as my favorite Cub. Unfortunately, I had to listen to that part on the radio, as we had already left the park. This would be the last time we left the park early outside of weather-related issues.
  16. What's this now? A thread whining about White Sox fans? Yeah, that kind of thing never happens here. Except here.
  17. I don't like that scenario, because that is the only scenario that could have the Cubs playing the Astros on Monday.
  18. Heck, apparently there were whispers from Milwaukee about Tuesday's game when Lou decided to rest just Ramirez for a game.
  19. From today's ESPN chat with Keith Law:
  20. Huh? Statistically, that Mariner team was awesome.
  21. Also indicates that anything other than a Red Sox/Rays ALCS would be a pretty large upset.
  22. The ten worst cleanup hitters since 1957: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-ten-worst-cleanup-hitters-since-1957/ Making the list: Joe Carter (twice), Ron Coomer, Don Baylor, Aramis Ramirez (#1!)
  23. Heh, that same Cub team is at worst splitting the most important series of the Mets year with minimal true effort.
  24. The best part of this "quote" is that nobody ever said it other than you and Garage Party! in an effort to mock Cedeno supporters with a straw man. I don't know if that actual quote was ever said or not, and truthfully I don't care, but similar stuff has certainly been said in the Theriot vs. Cedeno debates before the season started. No, actually, nothing even close to that. Here's the thread you probably thought you remembered, where the argument actually consisted mostly of risk vs. mediocrity.
