  1. The last time the US played a World Cup group match and didn't concede a goal was in 1950 against England.
  2. That second goal was bad marking by Onyewu and he didn't have the speed to recover. First goal was far too much space and a good finish by the Slovenian player.
  3. Eh? Wouldn't Slovenia have 5? No, Slovenia beat Algeria (3), are about to beat us (3) and would get a point for the draw with England (1), totaling 7. Well under that math, the US would only get four, making this all moot. Draw this. England win. USA wins. Eng/Slv Draw. Slovenia 5 England 5 USA 5 In that situation, the USA is better off if England/Slovenia doesn't end in a draw, because the loser would have 4 and it wouldn't come down to differential.
  4. Bad passing, bad defensive marking.
  5. No, you just can't be behind the last defender or goalie before a pass is made.
  6. I don't know what it is with the USMNT and the first 15 minutes. Now we'll see Slovenia bunker down.
  7. They know they're through with a win, and they think the US back line is beatable. An attacking Slovenia should play right into the US's hand though.
  8. To win the group, absolutely. To advance, a tie or better is necessary, with a tie making a win vs Algeria required.
  9. At this rate, the game will be 9v9 by the 80th minute.
  10. Really nervous about tomorrow's game. England-US was getting all the headlines, but this one was always the biggest game for the US. Win, and they could win the group. Draw, and they are still likely to advance. Lose, and they're done.
  11. As an Illini fan, these to me would be the most fair and balanced divisions: Division A: Teams we don't beat regularly Ohio State Penn State Nebraska Iowa Wisconsin Michigan Division B: We could win this division Illinois Northwestern Purdue Indiana Michigan State Minnesota
  12. Except Australia, who left the OFC because there was no competition.
  13. okay... for the noobs here, what the heck do those mean? I only recognize the AFC. :D Cheat sheet: CONCACAF -- Confederation Of North, Central, American and Caribbean Association Football: (USA, Mexico, Honduras) CONMEBOL -- CONfederacion SudaMEricana de FutBOL (South American): (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay) UEFA -- Union of European Football Associations: (England, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, Greece, Slovenia, Slovakia, Denmark, Serbia, Switzerland) AFC - Asian Football Confederation: (Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Australia) OFC - Oceanic Football Confederation: (New Zealand) CAF - Confederation of African Football: (Ivory Coast, Cameroon, South Africa, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria)
  14. Just for thought, current record by confederation: FEDERATION W T L P PPG ----------------------------- CONMEBOL 5 2 0 17 2.43 UEFA 4 5 4 17 1.31 CONCACAF 1 2 1 5 1.25 AFC 2 0 3 6 1.20 OFC 0 1 0 1 1.00 CAF 1 2 5 5 0.63
  15. Actually it began 3 hours ago when the posts above were made :) That was in French. Now it's on ESPN. ;)
  16. There isn't really a general NHL offseason thread, but it has officially begun: Montreal traded Jaroslav Halak to the Blues for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz.
  17. Meanwhile, every CONMEBOL team could potentially (likely, even) win their group.
  18. Has any UEFA team looked good other than Germany thus far? Even the Netherlands looked sluggish and benefited from an own goal.
  19. i hope you felt awful as soon as you typed this well now i do...
  20. Announcer: "Listen to the reception he gets from the Mexican fans!" Crowd mic: "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!"
  21. If there is a lesser of two evils between Mexico and France, I think I have to go with Mexico.
  22. Really, I would say the two most important factors when setting up divisions would be to maintain the biggest yearly rivalries for revenue generation purposes and minimize travel costs. To cover the first part in the Big Ten, you keep IU-PU together, and you keep OSU-UM-MSU together (and, to a lesser extent, UI-NW). To cover the second part, you keep PSU with the teams close by, and the divisions work themselves out. An "eastern" division of IU-PU-PSU-OSU-UM-MSU, and a "Central/Western" division of NW-UI-IA-UW-NU-MN.
  23. I'm not sure you necessarily trade by most value or most tradeable. I'd prefer they do deals based on perceived value vs. actual value. In this case, I think Byfuglien and Bolland have more perceived value than actual value. Versteeg perhaps as well. Niemi too if he's asking for 4 mil per.
  24. Congrats? Except that Omaha doesn't really have a comp in western Iowa. Another advantage for Iowa. Omaha isn't a nice place outside of the CWS. okay Eastern Nebraska has Warren Buffet. Western Iowa has... ..all-you-can-eat corn buffet?
