  1. Yea so they get 3 scrubs. Carpenter, AAA pitcher, and Wainwright... Never said 3 scrubs. One scrub, though.
  2. The Cubs get to avoid Brad Penny this weekend because he threw his back out hitting a grand slam last weekend.
  3. Milton Bradley and Jacque Jones know why he's not getting booed. Todd Hundley doesn't, though.
  4. If only there was some way to have known lefties might have some success today.
  5. Which gay guy from sex and the city? Sarah Jessica Parker.
  6. Not to mention that between their last title in 61 and 1997 they made the playoffs 35 teams in 36 years, and didn't win the Cup once.
  7. French Open! So, Roddick has had his serve broken 7 times so far in the second round, and leads 2 sets to 1.
  8. No team has ever played a home game in the Superbowl. I realize the Jets wouldn't be "home" in that scenario, but still. The chances are always there for that, no matter the locale. If the Super Bowl is in Miami, and the Falcons make the Super Bowl against say...the Seahawks....there's definitely an advantage fan-wise there too. At that point, I'd probably have more of a problem with the Super Bowl featuring two NFC teams.
  9. I don't know any Philly fans personally, but this description definitely fits the ones I've come across online. blackhawk fans are probably not in a great position to talk about not paying attention until their team is good. Having the worst ownership in professional sports had a lot more to do with the not paying attention than the team being good.
  10. Grant Wahl speculates on the final 23.
  11. Man, I love this GVT stuff. I think I'll help bridge the gap to Saturday by asking 1-2 trivia questions a day based on GVT. Today's question: Who are the top 5 all-time NHL players according to overall GVT?
  12. Here's a good article on the overall parity of goalies in today's NHL: http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=572 Note: GVT is like hockey's version of baseball's VORP. A 0.0 GVT/game is equivalent to a replacement player. So, the players around 0.0 aren't so much "average" as they are "slightly better than replacement level". Also, the chart only shows goalies above 0.0 GVT among goalies that played at least 40 games, so you won't see Niemi or any Philly goalies in the chart.
  13. So, question of the day while we're waiting for Saturday anyway... What do you think the biggest goal of the playoffs has been for the Hawks so far? Personally, I have to go with the Kane shortie in game 5 of the Nashville series, because without that, I don't think the Hawks win the first round.
  14. I'd guess Canada is about as good as Cape Verde Islands. Argentina's 2nd team is probably as good as Canada. Dude, Argentina could go 20 deep at every position and be better. Not an exaggeration. Yeah, there might be 10 CONCACAF teams better than Canada, and CONCACAF is terrible. EDIT: Actual counting...USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, T&T, Panama, Jamaica, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti...yep.
  15. neither niemi nor the blackhawks dominated vancouver. In Vancouver I'd say they did. But then again, they didn't dominate San Jose either. But Philly is one of those teams that should have been better throughout the season and only "woke up" for the playoffs. I'm not sure whether that means they're lucky or finally good, but odds are good the Blackhawks would be the best team the Flyers have played through the whole playoffs.
  16. If we're going based on production so far this year, it's Lilly. If we're going based on expected production going forward, it's Silva. If we're going based on salary, it's Gorzelanny or Wells. If we're going based on what we think Lou will do, that way madness lies.
  17. Trade Silva.
  18. Somehow, Keith led all Hawks in ice time yesterday, with 29 minutes. He also lost a total of 7 teeth, one of which was lodged in his throat for the remainder of the game.
  19. In a less morbid route, can I give credit to Rocky Wirtz for not being much like his father?
  20. They caught a lot. You don't smack around a team as good as San Jose without them. But the Hawks also have been burned by (lack of) penalty calls and hit more posts. Oh, I'm in no way saying the Hawks have caught no breaks, but the PP disparity and the injuries today have not exactly broken the Hawks way.
  21. I'm astounded at all the SJ fans that think the Hawks have caught every break in the series.
  22. One even strength goal. The other was a delayed penalty, and 6 on 5.
  23. It's not really weird. He would have been about the sixth or seventh guard on the depth chart. Just a year ago he said he was leaving the team to focus on studies, now he's transferring schools? It's a little weird.
  24. That is weird. I guess this means Bruce won't be tempted to use him next season.
