  1. The way it works is that if a guy has bonuses in his contract, they have to count against the cap until he doesn't hit them. So let's say Kane has a 50-goal bonus for $100k. That $100k counts against your cap until the season is over, even if he needs 20 goals on the last day of the season to reach it. You can exceed the cap by up to 7.5% because of the bonuses. The downside to exceeding the cap with the bonus cushion is that if the player reaches the bonus, it counts against next year's cap. So any bonuses Kane, Toews or Keith reached this season will count against next year's cap. But I really don't think there's any $1.3 million bonuses out there, unless I've been reading and understanding the CBA incorrectly. Here's where I saw it: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/1pup06
  2. If the Pac-10 ends up with Colorado and Oklahoma State at the end of this, it'll be a little funny.
  3. Read the thread.
  4. Toews gets a $1.3M bonus for winning the Conn Smythe. Since the Hawks are at cap for this year, it counts against next year's cap.
  5. There would essentially be no point to adding ISU or KSU. It adds nothing to the Big Ten in terms of research capability, academics, TV market, and athletic quality. Appeasing an Iowa/ISU rivalry is not a good reason. They play each other every year anyway.
  6. CBC's NHL playoff montage:
  7. They had the reporter on the radio this morning, and he didn't catch on until after the fact. He had no idea.
  8. So...now what do we do for 5 months? World Cup time?
  9. Toews deserved it, even if he wasn't scoring points. He was the best player on the ice for 3 of the Hawks 4 wins.
  10. Since my cable TV was out tonight, what the hell just happened?
  11. Sudden death, 20 minutes at a time, first goal wins in the playoffs.

    week 10

It was either Masterson against the Red Sox or LeBlanc against the Phillies. Apparently I should have rested Marcum instead, though.
  13. From John Gasaway's twitter feed: Breaking news: Nebraska has decided to leave the Big 12 and coach the Cavaliers.
  14. Most people are talking about a potential Brazil-Spain final, but if either of those teams slips up in group play and finishes second, they'd meet in the round of 16.
  15. lol KU is a better school than Missouri. Rated higher in almost every rating guide, much larger endowment. If you can live w Missouri, you should be able to live KU from an academic standpoint. But not KU + KSU.
  16. I'm still wondering why everyone is allergic to KU in this. Women's basketball.
  17. I can't wait for the conference football championship and basketball tournament. I'm sure they could take Baylor too.
  18. It would be a little funny if the Big Ten were to respond with "Wait a minute...we didn't invite Nebraska."
  19. Here's how I am thinking it'll shake out: A: 1. Uruguay 2. France 3. South Africa 4. Mexico B: 1. Argentina 2. Nigeria 3. Greece 4. South Korea C: 1. England 2. USA 3. Slovenia 4. Algeria D: 1. Serbia 2. Germany 3. Ghana 4. Australia E: 1. Netherlands 2. Cameroon 3. Denmark 4. Japan F: 1. Paraguay 2. Slovakia 3. Italy 4. New Zealand G: 1. Brazil 2. Portugal 3. Ivory Coast 5. North Korea H: 1. Spain 2. Switzerland 3. Chile 4. Honduras Round of 16: 1A: Uruguay over 2B: Nigeria 1C: England over 2D: Germany 2C: USA over 1D: Serbia (homer pick) 2A: France over 1B: Argentina 1E: Netherlands over 2F: Slovakia 1G: Brazil over 2H: Switzerland 2E: Cameroon over 1F: Paraguay 1H: Spain over 2G: Portugal Quarters: England over Uruguay USA over France (homer pick #2) Netherlands over Brazil Spain over Cameroon Semis: England over Netherlands Spain over USA Finals: Spain over England (Netherlands over USA)
  20. +200 would be dogs The Hawks are +105 for tomorrow the Flyers -115. Hawks for the series right now would be around -350 is my guess. They were -600 after game 2. -190 after game 4 I dont post here that much but I cant freakin wait til tomorrow. Something tells me a Hawks OT winner off the stick of Hossa in the 1st overtime 3-2 final Can you explain to me how the odds work? What does it mean to be -115? How is it calculated and what is the standard bet/payoff? I've never understood that. Might be a good thing because it keeps me away from the books in Vegas, but I'd like to know. It means the Flyers are favored, and that you have to bet $115 dollars, to win $100 back if the Flyers win. Conversely, the Hawks are very slight underdogs. If you bet $100 on the Hawks and they win, you win $105. So, and I'm sorry for my ignorance, is there any reason to bet on the favorite then? You win your bet + the winnings.
  21. If that happens, why wouldn't Big 12 just get TCU and someone else decent and call it a wash (Arkansas maybe)? Because a team like Texas couldn't already care less about teams like Baylor, KSU, ISU, etc. They're not interested in a more watered down conference.
  22. If the Big 12 collapses, where the hell does KU end up? Independent? Mountain West, perhaps. EDIT: Word on the street is that the MWC hasn't invited Boise State yet because they're hoping Kansas/KSU get hung out to dry by the Big 12 implosion.
  23. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/06/leighton-back-in-goal-for-flyers.html The entire team is a tool shed. Why should the coach be any different?
  24. Yeah, that's a lot of injuries to many of the teams expected to do well.
