I've heard from someone with internal knowledge of the situation, and it sounds like Huggins wasn't going to return after this year anyway, so the school saves money by keeping him on this year with a suspension and salary reduction, and can take this season to take their time to find a long term replacement rather than have to quickly scramble to find someone for this season without losing their entire team (particularly because Huggins isn't recruiting a single high school player for this year's roster) with only 4 months to rebuild.

Easy answer: Kane is a generational talent and has performed that way in his career. He's arguably the best American player ever (at least in an argument with Chris Chelios), and is top 3 all time in every Blackhawks category, along with being the best player on a Cup contender for 10 years, and an easy top 5 player in the league from his rookie year until maybe this year.

7 picks on the defense in this draft, 3 on the offense (plus Moore from the pick trade). Built up the defensive line depth and the secondary depth on a unit that was terrible last year, 31st against the run and 32nd against the pass. Surprised they didn't load up on an edge rusher or two, but I have to imagine that's the priority for the rest of the offseason. Fields gets his #1 WR before the draft even starts, the Bears prioritize a top end RT early in the draft, and fill in some WR and RB depth late. Draft focus really seemed to be on speed and athleticism, with effectively every pick in the 85th percentile or better in RAS. We'll see how it worked, but at least there's a consistent method at play here.

Been watching the Athletic NFL draft show, can't link specific timestamps on the video yet (doesn't seem to work until the stream ends), but here's what they've said about the Bears 3 picks today: 53 - Dexter, DT, Florida - Speedy former basketball player, only played 3 years of football so far, snap anticipation needs work, but physical tools are there. Young guy, looks like a long term pick, not necessarily a top end starter next year but can grow into a great player with the physical tools he has. 57 - Stevenson, CB, Miami - Transferred from Georgia to be a CB when Georgia used him as a safety. Great athlete, needs more consistency, traits and speed are there, bigger corner, versatile, makes more sense outside than, say, Kyler Gordon, but the type of guy Eberflus loves on the ends, physical and long. Little undisciplined, Bears betting on him figuring things out to be a factor on every play. Bears definitely needed at least one more corner. 64 - Pickens, DT, South Carolina - Mays was hoping for the Ohio State edge there, but thinks another DT makes sense here, Similar to Dexter, former 5 star guy, made plays at the Senior Bowl, much higher floor than Dexter, likely an every down starter from the start. Tons of DTs taken to this point, and the Bears loading up on guys other teams were hoping would sneak through, but makes sense since the Bears desperately need defensive line help across the board. Mention the RAS and how the Bears are drating all 90th percentile guys. Mays is thrilled that the Bears continue to do things that make sense for their long term vision of the team, shoring up the offensive holes quickly with Moore (via trade) and Wright to give Fields a chance next year, while slowly building the defense from scratch to grow a long-term solution there, similarly to how things were built at KC a few years back.

Day 3 I'd like to see the Bears pick up an interior lineman or two, an edge rusher or two, and a RB that can spell the starters and as depth pieces to what was a thin and bad team last year. They've worked to address two of their biggest 3 issues on defense in the draft, their 31st ranked run D at the line, and their secondary depth (when Johnson was out opposing offenses could effectively complete any pass they want). Need to put some work into players that will actually pressure opposing QBs at this point, either in the draft or after some cap casualties for other teams (since the Bears still have a solid amount of cap space sitting there doing nothing).

CB is definitely a need, just ask Vildor how that worked out for the team last year. And drafting 2 DTs when you have 0 useful DTs is a need.

That is true, they haven't addressed 7 needs with 4 picks, but they have addressed 4 needs with 4 picks.

I will say the Bears are addressing needs with their draft picks.

So the Lions needed a CB having just traded one high pick CB away, were projected to take Gonzalez at 6, traded down to 12, took a RB at 12 that in all likelihood would have been there at 18 and they didn't really need, and then didn't get Gonzalez at 18. Good night for the Lions.

Here are my top 5 targets at 9, in order: 1. Will Anderson, EDGE, Alabama (he won't fall to 9 unless something weird happens) 2. Jalen Carter, DE, Georgia (he may fall here after his lackluster combine, would be a shame to pass on him if he gets to 9) 3. Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech 4. Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois (bias but love the idea of locking down opposing passing offenses) 5. Paris Johnson, OL, Ohio State (I like this as a better option than Skoronski here, Bears need an upgrade at tackle more than guard, even if Skoronski will be a great guard) If all 5 are off the board, I'd be disappointed, but Skoronski, Gonzalez (CB, Oregon), or Smith-Nigba (WR Ohio State) would be acceptable, but I'd wonder if it were possible to trade down, gain picks, and still get one of those guys 3-5 picks later.

I think the Bears are going to end up with several blue chip options at 9, especially if 4 QBs are drafted in the top 8. They can't go wrong with any of the #1 options at DE, DT or CB, and if for some reason all those options are gone, there's still two #1 OT options that could be drafted there, or trade down further for quantity, since they need several options at all 4 of those positions to fill out the team.
