  1. Well, prior to this latest 21 game stretch, the Blackhawks were 8-30, a good 5+ games worse than any other team in the NHL. But now they've gone 13-8 over the last month, and have now passed Anaheim and Columbus in the standings. It's still a draft lottery, but they went from 40% odds to like 20% odds in this streatch. They can still collapse yet, but now there's 20 games left in the season and actually are in a competition with 5-6 other teams for the top spot.
  2. Plus now they've won 5 straight to not only catch up to the rest of the league in points but actually dig themselves out of the cellar.
  3. Ha - thanks! I was really only going to sell it to a group that said they like the culture and want to keep it going. You sold the site to the DuCross brothers?
  4. I did a trade with Houston for 2 and 12 and they went and took Anderson with the #1 pick, out of what I can only imagine is spite for winning that last game of the season.
  5. This, this is the best Valentine I've seen this year: [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. Back on the topic of college basketball disaster seasons in this seemingly bizarre season where nobody's sure who's actually good, LSU was 12-1 and receiving votes at the end of December, and since then have lost 11 straight, falling to last in the SEC.
  7. Not unexpected, but bizarre timing since they signed Wes like, what, last week?

    NFL Playoffs

There isn't a "Guess what an idiot with 7 SB rings did again?" thread and the playoffs are dead until probably media day next week. There is a "Black Monday" and an offseason thread, though.
  9. The potentially amusing thing here is the US will not automatically qualify for Copa America, they'll have to qualify via a yet-undetermined method (likely this year's Gold Cup) to find the 6 CONCACAF nations that will participate. So they'll be heavily favored, but will have to qualify.
  10. More like the Raid-ed, am I right? Good haul, but a terrible mock pick of a player not even ranked in the top 25 of any reputable draft board right now (hell, CBS has him ranked 43), and at an increasingly less important position. Take the best available line prospect, or if for some reason there's a run on OL/DL in the top 5, take the best available CB in a bind (note, the likeliness of this happening is about none and there's a good chance one of Anderson/Carter/Murphy will be there).
  11. Honest question, if the Bears don't end up finding a trade package they like, and end up just taking Carter or Anderson with the #1 pick, is that a successful use of draft capital at the top?
  12. Sometimes teams just have "their guy" and will trade almost anything to get him, even if it means trading up just one spot.
  13. The mock drafts have started coming through, here's one from CBS Sports from today: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2023-nfl-mock-draft-panthers-trade-up-to-no-1-overall-for-qb-commanders-select-anthony-richardson/ Has the Bears trading down from 1 to 9, missing out on Carter and Anderson but taking the 2nd DL on the board, but also picking up both of Carolina's 2nd round picks, plus 1st and 3rd round picks in 2024, a 2nd round pick in 2025 and WR Laviska Shenault, who is a year younger than DJ Moore (and much less productive). I feel like that would be quite the haul, though I'd prefer Moore if the Bears are getting a WR from Carolina.
  14. January roster announced. Some exciting names here...and Arriola and Acosta. [tweet] [/tweet]

    NFL Playoffs

The Vikings are 11-1 in one possession games this season.

    NFL Playoffs

Seems like the takeaway the Bills had from last night's game was that they key is turning the ball over 5 times.
  17. Bizarre statline for Terrence Shannon tonight: scored 17 of the first 19 points for Illinois, and then never scored again in the game.
  18. Day 1 is only the 1st round. They aren't getting 4-5 1st round picks That's my mistake, I'm not used to the Bears having first day picks. First two days, I mean, then. 4-5 picks over the first couple rounds, or at worst first two rounds and high third.
  19. Here's what I want to see the Bears doing with their draft and cap space capital: 1. Use their enormous cap space to take on some high price cap casualties from other teams that are still extremely productive, particularly on the OL and DL. Set the market, they have double the cap space of any other team. 2. Use the #1 pick to net 4-5 day 1 picks, either using all picks to shore up the lines and add a skill player or two, or trade one of the picks for a high end #1 WR. Would feel much better if the WR corps next year is a top 10 WR at WR1, Claypool at WR2 with Mooney at WR3 with a draft pick or two filling in the gaps. Maybe the team could run a 4 WR set, who knows? 3. Use the high back round picks to turn into more quantity, draft a bunch of back end depth for the lines, defensive backs, and an additional couple skill positions (RB, TE, WR). 4. After the draft, fill in the gaps with the remaining cap space.
  20. Does that mean he's joining the team and playing this year? He's planning to join for the spring semester, which would have him join the team right away. As for playing, who knows?
  21. He wasn't passing, wasn't putting in effort on defense, and was losing playing time as a result. The season has become a nightmare as there's no cohesiveness and eventually a shoe was going to drop. Illinois had a team manager suited up for last night's game they're effectively so thin on ball handlers. I was concerned what they'd do to last the year, but apparently this is a thing that can be done now: [tweet] [/tweet]
  22. "pending physical"...so it's just like the other contracts at this time.
  23. You mean the players mocked to be drafted, or which teams own which picks for 2023? I meant the order that teams pick. The top 18 have been set (the rest are determined by playoff order in the 1st round): 1 Chicago Bears 2 Houston Texans 3 Arizona Cardinals 4 Indianapolis Colts 5 Denver Broncos (traded to Seattle Seahawks) 6 Los Angeles Rams (traded to Detroit Lions) 7 Las Vegas Raiders 8 Atlanta Falcons 9 Carolina Panthers 10 New Orleans Saints (traded to Philadelphia Eagles) 11 Tennessee Titans 12 Cleveland Browns (traded to Houston Texans) 13 New York Jets 14 New England Patriots 15 Green Bay Packers 16 Washington Commanders 17 Pittsburgh Steelers 18 Detroit Lions
