  1. Johnson is 3 for 3 and still cost the Cubs a run or two offensively.
  2. Well, Russell and Stevens made it to the 7th, and the Cubs are still in the game. Somewhat encouraging.
  3. After seeing the video, I'm not sure that's true. That was a low line shot.
  4. Hoping that Russell and Stevens can get at least to the 7th inning.
  5. There's no reason to pitch around Venable here, Samardzija.
  6. Reed Johnson's on deck Stupid, lying Gameday has Reed at the 9th spot and Samardzija on deck. Although, it's Reed Johnson, so the same idea applies as if it were Samardzija.
  7. Truthfully, the Padres have little reason to throw Pena a hittable pitch with Samardzija on deck. The Cubs should toss Soriano in the on-deck circle and see what happens.
  8. Have to see what happens come inning 13.
  9. Ok, now somehow get a run on an HBP, passed ball, balk, and suicide squeeze to finish off the cruddiest display of two offenses in recent memory.
  10. If he gets out of this, the Cubs really need to win it in the 10th.
  11. The zone appears to go from the top of the belt to the bottom of the belt. Pads have been patient about it all day, but the Cubs haven't, unfortunately.
  12. Keep most of his relievers relatively available and just burn Samardzija here? He tried to save Marshall for just the 8th so he'd be available later too, but Grabow and Mateo couldn't get 3 outs. Using Marmol an extra inning here is kind of pointless.
  13. Samardzija in to pitch, Cubs probably going to stick with him until the game is over at this point.
  14. But your closer needs to make them earn it and not put the lead-off hitter on with a walk. The leadoff walk you describe looked a lot more to me like a flyout.
  15. He's given up 3 runs in 9 outings this year, 2 in 1 and one today. He has 6 walks and 14 strikeouts. 2 blown saves where a runner he walks scored. 6 walks in ~9IP is good (for him) tho. And four outings where a runner he walks didn't score. He's getting out of it far more often than not, and maybe, just maybe, allowing a run every 19 innings or so should be expected from a pitching staff.
  16. He's given up 3 runs in 9 outings this year, 2 in 1 and one today. He has 6 walks and 14 strikeouts.
  17. Guess it was too much to ask for the pitching staff to go 19 consecutive innings scoreless.
  18. Gameday also indicated pitch 4 to Maybin was a strike, but called a ball.
  19. Gameday indicates Marmol threw 5 strikes in that at-bat.
  20. I have to think the double switch was done with the intention of letting Marshall pitch more.
  21. Drop: Ryan Zimmerman Add: Troy Tulowitzki
  22. Alternative: Soto can hit, but is only allowed to hit out of the 8 spot in the lineup.
  23. Stupid Patterson, doing irreparable damage to Garza's K/inning ratio.
  24. I'm not sure if this got mentioned last night, but what in the hell was Larry Drew thinking last night in the first half?
  25. Big night for MLS worldwide legitimacy tonight.
