That'll do it, 59 wins and the 1 seed locked up. Now all that's left to play for is to see if they can hit 60 wins and catch the Spurs. EDIT: And beat the Knicks to be the only team to beat every other team.

It's basically the same situation as if someone was injured the first week of the year and was declared out for the year. It's the perfect excuse to use one of the substitutions, which is a large reason they're provided. Once the season starts, though, I don't think mulligans should be allowed. -
Resting up for the playoffs just like my boys. Resting? Your big 4 all played over 30 minutes, and that's with sitting most of the 4th quarter when the game was out of reach. You guys got worked, and it was never really ever in question. I hope we see you in the ECF. Likewise. I don't think we can stop Dwight Howard. You truly believe this? I believe the Celtics can't stop Dwight Howard, sure.

No one else even deserves a vote, honestly. A decent chunk of the media still seems bent on Pops though. Honestly, I'd say Thibs is definitely more deserving of CoY than Rose is of MVP. Well yeah, because Thibs actually deserves his award. Just curious, but who's been more valuable to his team than Rose this year? Dwight Howard. Rose has undoubtedly been the best story, though.

According to BP's Playoff Odds/projections, Boston is still projected to finish with the best record in the majors as of this morning. Just by about 2 fewer wins than projected at the year's outset. Tampa, on the other hand, is not looking good.

ok well NOW its over. It's an interesting question....how long would this streak have to go before rational people started saying ....maybe this is a legit problem. 0-10? 0-15? Well, the 1982 Atlanta Braves had an 11-game losing streak and still made the playoffs. At that point, there's probably cause for some more serious concern. To win 100 games in a year, a team has to win 61.7% of their games. After the start they've had, playing at a 62% pace for the remainder of the season would win them 96 games. So it's not completely detrimental yet. After an 0-11 start, playing at a 62% pace would win them 93 games overall. That may not be enough to make the playoffs (although, the Rays are in nearly the same position).

Another oddity: the Cavs no longer have the worst record in the NBA, as winning 4 of their last 12 games caused them to pass Minnesota. They can't even tank right.

Yeah, the only real downer from last night's results is that the Hawks can no longer get the 4 seed. Either LA or Anaheim (or both) will finish ahead of them.

Spurs clinch 1 seed, Pacers clinch 8 seed, Thunder clinch division, Portland and New Orleans clinch playoff spots.

It's encouraging that most of the bullpen and rotation to this point have been at least adequate, and that most of the lineup is performing (well, the important parts of it). Soto should pick it up at some point, and 2B is going to be a hole this year, which is to be expected. At least with Barney in the field it's only a hole on one end.

That gives the Cubs 5 HRs on the year, good for 4th in the NL and 3 behind the Cincinnati Pujolses.

The Cub offense, coming into today, led the NL in hits and walks, was second in runs and SLG, and third in AVG, OBP and OPS. The only reason they aren't leading the league in everything is that the Reds are hitting collectively as a team like Albert Pujols.

Yeah, the Cubs have scored 3, 5, 4, 4, and 6 runs so far, and had 11, 9, 9, 8 and 10 hits. Scoring, hitting and getting on base hasn't really been much of an issue. Pitching, though, has struggled overall. Dempster alone has given up 11 runs. The rest of the team has surrendered 14 runs in 38 innings.

To clarify, 9 of the 14 hits Dempster has allowed this year have gone for extra bases. Aside from that, he's actually been moderately effective. If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. You're missing the point, his BABIP is normal, he's getting strikeouts, his K/BB ratio is good, just everything is being hit hard. Results are out of whack with the peripherals.
