  1. Heh, and Bryant ties it with a 3 with 4 seconds to play, and the game goes to OT. Memphis has no idea what to do right now against the Clippers.
  2. What in the hell are the Lakers doing?
  3. Bulls win 97-92, clinch at worst a tie for the best record in the NBA.
  4. Thibs decided to put Rose and Deng back in for the last 20 seconds. Bulls up 95-92 with 11 seconds to play, with the ball.
  5. I don't believe in jinxes or omens, or anything like that. Still, the timing of this article couldn't have been worse for the Celtics writer. Summary: Author states on March 8th that the Celtics merely had to play decent in their last 21 games to coast to the 1 seed. At the time, the Celtics were 46-15, 3 games ahead of the Bulls and 4 ahead of the Heat, who had just lost 4 straight. From this point exactly, the Celtics proceeded to lose 2 straight at home, and have closed the season on a 9-11 run to this point, while the Bulls have gone 17-2 and the Heat have gone 14-4.
  6. With the win last night, the Bulls finished their road schedule at 26-15. There ended up being only two teams with more road wins than the Bulls: Miami (27-13 with one to play) and Dallas (28-13). The Lakers are 26-14 with one to play, so they could potentially finish with more road wins.
  7. 1. Vinny 2. Playing the #s, Corbin? VDN has 2, Corbin actually has 3 already (well, 1 when he was an asst). There is a coach with 0, and the most is 10. 1. Rick Carlisle 2. Frank Vogel Yes, Carlisle has 10. Vogel does actually have 0, but that wasn't the one I was thinking of. Since it's technically right, the other coach with 0 is Phil Jackson.
  8. SVG has 9. Close, though.
  9. 1. Vinny 2. Playing the #s, Corbin? VDN has 2, Corbin actually has 3 already (well, 1 when he was an asst). There is a coach with 0, and the most is 10.
  10. Trivia for the day: 1. Which current NBA head coach has the most technicals this year? 2. Which current NBA head coach has the fewest technicals this year?
  11. Reports on Bynum's injury are so non-encouraging, both Memphis and Portland have changed play philosophies (for the most part) in the second half and are playing to win. Also, if Bynum is done for the year, a Spurs loss is huge for the Bulls. EDIT: Except Zach Randolph apparently still gets the night off. Everybody else playing, though.
  12. Bynum's knee apparently buckled after he stepped on an opposing player, he's done for the game and headed for an MRI tomorrow. Didn't look good. Also, apparently the Bynum injury news got through to Portland, and now the starters are playing again.
  13. Thats good. On the other hand, a Spurs loss would almost definitely cause the starters to go all out tomorrow to clinch a tie and potentially HCA depending on the random draw. Andrew Bynum just went down with an injury. Shocking news.
  14. Also, it doesn't not appears as if the Spurs are trying to win tonight, while the Lakers...are.
  15. Steve Blake missing tonight's Lakers game because he has the chicken pox. According to a Lakers' reporter, only 3 Lakers haven't ever had the chicken pox: Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest.
  16. Meanwhile, Memphis is playing D-Leaguers and medical trainers in a desperate effort to not get the Lakers in the first round, and they're still hanging with Portland in Portland (who is also trying to lose and not get the Lakers in the first round).
  17. According to ESPN.com, Noah played 28 minutes tonight and probably would have had more if he didn't tweak that ankle. But your point still stands. An encouraging sign was that Noah was at the scorer's table to re-enter the game in the last two minutes. Thibs didn't do it due to a lack of a stoppage for too long, but still encouraging.
  18. Of course, the bench plays nearly the entire second quarter and Brewer gets hurt. Thibs limits Noah to 20 minutes of gametime and he gets hurt. Rose, Boozer and Deng get 35 minutes of game time? They're fine.
  19. He was called up on Sunday, I think. Some weird rule about being able to call two guys up when you put 2 guys on the DL.
  20. The Knicks have 0 offensive rebounds and 10 points from inside 15 feet. They're shooting a ton of long jumpers and making a ton.
  21. Here's an (extremely long) article on MVP from the far side of the advanced analytical spectrum: http://www.hardwoodparoxysm.com/2011/04/10/your-own-private-white-house/
  22. I guess the other issue I have with Quade are the last 3 spots on the roster: DeWitt, Johnson and Samardzija. Samardzija would have been off the roster otherwise (which, while not necessarily a bad thing overall, may actually work out well enough in this instance due to the missing 40% of the rotation), Johnson isn't much of a defensive replacement and can't hit, and DeWitt's only value is a left-handed bat which is marginally more effective than Koyie Hill's. I suppose I'd prefer an actual defensive replacement OF'er and a replacement infielder that has at least one purpose other than "hits lefty", but it's still the back end of the roster, and any potential improvements would be largely speculative and marginal at best.
  23. Ahh, so more of a lack of foresight on a defensive replacement switch. Understandable, since there's no good reason to even double-switch there (unless he planned on using Marmol for a theoretical 10th...which I'm not sure is a good idea either).
  24. ESPN.com writers vote for MVP: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=MVP11 Someone dared put Rose 5th!
  25. There have been 2 instances where Johnson didn't come in as a defensive replacement: - Once against the Pirates with 2 outs in the 7th (bases empty) down 3 against Paul Maholm. He struck out, and Quade led Fukudome off the following half inning where he walked and the Cubs eventually scored 5 runs to win the game. - Once against the Brewers with 2 outs in the 7th up 2 (bases empty) against Sean Green, a middle reliever. He struck out, and the Cubs still won 7-4 despite not using Fukudome a whole game and giving him a full day off. Which one of them was inexcusably dumb?
