  1. Truthfully, the Padres have little reason to throw Pena a hittable pitch with Samardzija on deck. The Cubs should toss Soriano in the on-deck circle and see what happens.
  2. Have to see what happens come inning 13.
  3. Ok, now somehow get a run on an HBP, passed ball, balk, and suicide squeeze to finish off the cruddiest display of two offenses in recent memory.
  4. If he gets out of this, the Cubs really need to win it in the 10th.
  5. The zone appears to go from the top of the belt to the bottom of the belt. Pads have been patient about it all day, but the Cubs haven't, unfortunately.
  6. Keep most of his relievers relatively available and just burn Samardzija here? He tried to save Marshall for just the 8th so he'd be available later too, but Grabow and Mateo couldn't get 3 outs. Using Marmol an extra inning here is kind of pointless.
  7. Samardzija in to pitch, Cubs probably going to stick with him until the game is over at this point.
  8. But your closer needs to make them earn it and not put the lead-off hitter on with a walk. The leadoff walk you describe looked a lot more to me like a flyout.
  9. He's given up 3 runs in 9 outings this year, 2 in 1 and one today. He has 6 walks and 14 strikeouts. 2 blown saves where a runner he walks scored. 6 walks in ~9IP is good (for him) tho. And four outings where a runner he walks didn't score. He's getting out of it far more often than not, and maybe, just maybe, allowing a run every 19 innings or so should be expected from a pitching staff.

  11. Guess it was too much to ask for the pitching staff to go 19 consecutive innings scoreless.
  12. Gameday also indicated pitch 4 to Maybin was a strike, but called a ball.
  13. Gameday indicates Marmol threw 5 strikes in that at-bat.
  14. I have to think the double switch was done with the intention of letting Marshall pitch more.
  15. Drop: Ryan Zimmerman Add: Troy Tulowitzki
  16. Alternative: Soto can hit, but is only allowed to hit out of the 8 spot in the lineup.
  17. Stupid Patterson, doing irreparable damage to Garza's K/inning ratio.
  18. I'm not sure if this got mentioned last night, but what in the hell was Larry Drew thinking last night in the first half?
  19. Big night for MLS worldwide legitimacy tonight.
  20. Not a good sign for Landry Fields that Billups didn't play a second and he still only got 15 minutes of game time. Roger Mason Jr got more. If only the Knicks understood how much better a guard he is than Derrick Rose...
  21. Nucks basically gooned it up as soon as the Hawks dared go with the #1 PP line up 4 in the third.
  22. Ken Tremendous is ranting about the NFL labor situation on Twitter today.
  23. Fukudome's wife is having a baby. with a Cincinatti loss and a Chicago win, Cubs can be tied for the Division lead. On the glass-half-empty side, the Cubs are also in striking distance of fifth place. On the glass-is-still-brand-new side, the season is 2 weeks old.
  24. Fukudome's wife is having a baby. with a Cincinatti loss and a Chicago win, Cubs can be tied for the Division lead. That would require the Cubs to win back-to-back games, which they haven't done yet this year. They're still at .500, though, which also indicates they haven't lost back-to-back much this year either.
  25. Law of averages at work, Rick Reilly writes a column that makes sense.
