  1. That was the Cubs 11th shutout of the season, but the first since July 7 against the Yankees.
  2. Fortunately, Cobb has historically been extremely durable and has rarely missed time to injury in his career. I think he's only had 4 injuries in the last year.
  3. The 100 win dream stays alive one more day.
  4. I posted this in the Sports Media thread, but Football Outsiders is dead now. Aaron Schatz, who ran it, was hired as the chief analyst over at FTN Fantasy, so he moved all his stats over there, including DVOA. https://www.ftnfantasy.com/nfl/tools/team-total-dvoa
  5. So, it looks like Football Outsiders is going away completely, as Aaron Schatz, who ran the site, has joined FTN as their Chief Analytics Officer, and will be moving the rest of the data and analysis that was left at FO over to FTN. EDIT: By "is going away" I apparently mean it's already gone. DVOA and related statistics will now be available here: https://www.ftnfantasy.com/nfl/tools/team-total-dvoa
  6. Yeah, most athletes are square in the "White guys that never really had to work hard for anything in their life" demographic that is Trump's bread and butter.
  7. If you wanted to reverse-UMfan this game, the Cubs were one pitch away from a 6-0 shutout.
  8. Cubs back to 6 games over .500. I am skeptical of their chances of winning 100 games this season, unfortunately.
  9. Patrick Wisdom has over a .900 OPS since returning from injury in July. Morel is something in the realm of 5 for his last 50. I think it's probably good on Ross for giving him a spot start on getaway day and give Morel a day off. Good on you for noticing that, a lesser individual would probably look at Wisdom's batting average and say something ignorant.
  10. Well, I mean, he's probably not going to score any runs for the Cubs, so...
  11. If you are convinced he's the best starting option for the Cubs right now, then yes, I am skeptical you knew who he was before the article. Smyly may not be a viable MLB starter option, but Wicks is barely a viable AAA starter option at the moment.
  12. No, someone mentioned his name in an article, so it's clearly the best option.
  13. A little better and the Cubs might have been able to pick up wins the last 2 days.
  14. I can't believe Illinois is dodging Rutgers this season.
  15. Cubs now 6 games over .500 for the first time this season, and sneak into the WC2 spot with SF losing.
  16. In the two weeks since I started this thread, everyone has effectively treaded water aside from the Braves, Dodgers, Giants and Padres. What does it all mean? The Braves and Dodgers effectively have the top 2 seeds locked up, so no byes are realistically in play anymore. The Giants have fallen from safely clear of a playoff spot to in the muddle for the last 2 playoff spots. The Padres have fallen more than 5 games out of a playoff spot, barely ahead of the Mets who gave up a month ago. Despite their solid underlying numbers, they're really in an uphill battle now and would have to go on an unreal tear to pass 4 teams that are 5+ games ahead of them. The Cubs are still in a playoff spot at the moment, but could use another good run of wins to get into a solid position.
  17. Updated NFC North QB rankings: 1. Justin FIelds 2. Kirk Cousins 3. Jared Goff 4. Tyson Bagent 5. Jordan Love
  18. Cmon Morel, it's been too long since you had a big hit.
  19. It looks like a batting glove. Many hitters wear them to improve grip on the bat and reduce sting from bat reverb. You can see it on his other fingers as well.
  20. As long as the Cubs can keep winning, the rest should take care of itself. The Braves and Dodgers are really the only teams in the NL that have consistently won all season (side note, the Dodgers suddenly have the second best record in baseball).
  21. Because it was a road game and the trip around the bases would have looked a bit much for a non-walkoff.
  22. If only Fields had hit Moore in stride, he may have taken it all the way for a TD.
  23. I appreciate the shade in referring to MIL as a dreg of the NL Central.
