  1. No, this doesn't at all sound like a predatory loan: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/38335229/florida-legislator-says-bears-dt-gervon-dexter-nil-deal-violated-law TLDR: Dexter signed an NIL deal with an investment capital company, "Big League Advance", where they agreed to pay him just under 500k in exchange for his likeness rights that year, but they included a clause later in the contract that Dexter would owe them 15% of all NFL earnings over the next 25 years in exchange.
  2. Yes, it's one particular ad that's too small to see what's happening but plays extremely loud automatically and doesn't let you silence it for about 5 seconds after it starts.
  3. Cubs pull to within 10 games of the second bye... Also 11 over .500 for the first time this year. Also have eclipsed last season's win total.
  4. I appreciate that Illinois is going for a tougher non-conference slate this season, but it definitely gives very little margin for error to start off the season slowly. Finally starting to look good right now going into the 4th.
  5. Matt Turner with his first PL clean sheet for Nottingham, as they win at Chelsea for the first time in 20 years notable also as the only clean sheet of today's PL play thus far
  6. This series has very similar vibes to me to that 5 game STL seties in 2003. I'm hoping for similar results.
  7. Cubs apparently going with Cuas to start game 2, according to MLB.com.
  8. That an indicator that Greene is starting one of the DH games tomorrow, or just a pen arm?
  9. Cubs only trail the Dodgers by 13 games for that second bye...
  10. Is he going to be particularly loud from the dugout or something? He's maybe the 5th best OF on the roster.
  11. Sandberg was hardly a throw-in for that deal. Dallas Green, the Cubs GM at that time, had recently worked for the Phillies and wouldn't take on the 36-year old Bowa unless he got Sandberg, who he wanted from the start. Granted, Sandberg was effectively an A- prospect in AA at the time, but he was the main piece of the deal from Green's perspective.
  12. I mean, if I'm the Guardians, I look at the Twins and think to myself "Yes, this is a team that can be beaten, especially if we add two starters and they don't."
  13. Will the Cubs get to 100 wins this year? 29-0 will get it done.
  14. Off days after big wins are more fun.
  15. I don't want to say the Pythagorean record came through here, but...it totally came through here.
  16. The Cubs now have better playoff odds than the Texas Rangers.
  17. End of August update: Since the last post, the Cubs have gone 9-3 against the Royals, Tigers, Pirates and Brewers, which would be successfully a "good run of wins to get in a solid position". NL Contenders' records since August 19: Dodgers 9-2 Brewers 8-2 Cubs 9-3 Braves 8-3 Phillies 8-3 Dbacks 7-4 Giants 5-6 Reds 5-7 Marlins 2-8 So...separation has begun to happen. Braves and Dodgers still 10 games clear of anyone else and have the byes effectively locked up unless someone else effectively goes undefeated in September. Brewers have played out of their minds and have gained just a half game on the Cubs in 2 weeks (thanks to the last 2 days). Phillies and Cubs have bought 2 games on the rest, while the Giants, Dbacks and Reds are within a game of each other for the last playoff spot, and the Marlins have slid to 3 back of the playoffs and 5 back of the Cubs.
  18. Cubs definitely out-Brewered the Brewers this series. ... From the "not all blown saves are created equal " stat crew, Alzolays performance today snapped his consecutive save streak at 18.
  19. Which means they controlled it before today too.
  20. You want the Cubs offense to have more 1-2-3- innings?
  21. Nearly all security at public places is for theater. Make people feel safer at the expense of convenience and efficiency.
