  1. There were only going to be two ways to beat UConn - rain 3's and stretch the defense so Clingan would leave the lane, or get Clingan in foul trouble off drives. The 3's weren't falling, so they went with option 2, and the officials called an extremely loose game, so they were 0 for 19 at the rim with Clingan in the paint, and 1 for 19 from 3 if their name wasn't Marcus Domask (until the garbage time when Hansberry drained two after they were down 30 and had given up). It was just a bad game for their shooting to completely escape them. They ended up being completely unable to do anything offensively for a 10 minute stretch early in the second half.
  2. I guess if you can't solve the final third, just skip it.
  3. Fun fact, Illinois just passed UConn for first overall in adjusted offensive efficiency, and their 126.7 number is 4th highest in the KenPom era. There is good news about the NCAA tourney outcomes of the 3 teams with adjusted offenses higher than that...
  4. This feels like one of those really top heavy years with 2-3 elite teams significantly better than everyone else. I'm having a hard time not having UConn, Houston and Purdue in the Final Four, but it might just be one of those years. If you have to fade UConn to differentiate, then Houston or Purdue would be the next best bets. I might take those 3 teams over the field this year.
  5. Yes, Virginia definitely should have been in this tournament.
  6. This is a crazy top heavy field this year. UConn, Houston and Purdue were about 3 games better than anyone else. After that, UNC, Tennessee and Arizona were a tier better than the rest. Iowa State made a late run in the conference tournament to shore up the 2 seed, but it was never going to be enough to get into the top 6. It's actually an OK matchup for Illinois if it shakes out. On the other hand, they did get a 6 seed in BYU that should have been a 5, but got reseeded because they can't play on Sundays. But that's par for the course for tournament pods for this program.
  7. 7 goals in back to back games where the Hawks were the better team? What year is this?
  8. 0 for 2
  9. DePaul is an MVC team stuck in a major conference.
  10. Kane hits the game winner in OT on a breakaway for the Red Wings. Feels worse.
  11. Tying goal from DeBrincat from Kane. Feels bad.
  12. I feel like this is a bit premature, since Bedard is a rookie and everybody knew going into this season it was a bottom 5 NHL roster, and since then they've lost their only other 2 players of value. With Taylor Hall they would probably only be one of the 5 worst teams in the NHL instead of the worst.
  13. Meanwhile at DePaul: Can anyone win/turn things around at DePaul, or are they just permanently a mid-major program stuck in a major conference?
  14. At any time the prosecutor can bring the evidence before a grand jury to procure an indictment independent of the preliminary hearing (which would be a similar process but before a judge rather than an grand jury). This is a more typical procedure for a criminal prosecution, which is just one of the many oddities associated with this situation (another being the prosecutor bringing both felony and misdemeanor charges for the same offense, typically it's one or the other). If you have specific legal questions, give that podcast a listen. The lawyer involved goes through all the proceedings and the associated responsibilities and expectations from all 3 sides of the situation (the accuser/prosecution, the defendant, and the university).
  15. There are several things that could progress during the season that would alter this scenario: - Plea deal on hearing date in Feb (unlikely unless he's guilty and wants to avoid 50 years of jail time) - Grand jury indictment (he hasn't actually been indicted yet, just issued an arrest warrant based on an affadavit) - Case is dropped (then he wouldn't need the TRO anymore) There is no doubt he's playing Sunday, though, and he'll likely get an ovation from the fans, which will be odd for everyone. In my opinion, he deserves the benefit of the doubt until otherwise shown in court. Just like the accuser deserves the benefit of the doubt to allow the proceedings to proceed until the court process is resolved one way or the other. Believing the accuser doesn't automatically mean condemning the defendant.
  16. The ruling effectively ties the university's decision to the results of the court case, of which the preliminary hearing is in February. They could choose to revise their policy, but to even organize something like that could take months. The Title IX portion is effectively irrelevant, as the court ruled that it did not apply here, so the university has nothing to do on this front. The ruling is just that suspending him without due process and a chance to defend themselves is unfair to Shannon. As a result, TJ Shannon will play immediately, and at the least until the resolution of the court case. If he's found guilty, he'll be dismissed from the team. If he settles, the university can and probably will move to dismiss him from the team. Here's a thorough podcast on the situation and result from today:
  17. The Eagles fell apart spectacularly over the last 8 weeks.
  18. Is Michigan the worst team in the Big Ten this year? They're now 1-4 in the league with losses to Minnesota, Penn State and Maryland, the three teams I thought were the worst.
  19. Well, maybe next year there will be fewer 2nd and 10 draws up the middle.
  20. It was because they shot 60% from 3.
  21. Pick 9 it is for the Bears.
  22. DLine was bad, zone defensive backfield was awful, really missed Johnson today (and he probably made a few mil in a potential resigning today). Offensive playcalling was atrocious and O-line frequently didn't allow a pocket for any real passing game. Need a couple players on both lines, along with DB depth and a FS (Jackson was not good this season). Add a WR, TE, and there are a good 8 holes that needs filing before I'd consider this a playoff quality roster. If you take the big swing on a QB at 1-1 and not trade back for more quantity of picks, they'd best not miss or the franchise is set back another 5 years.
  23. Yeah, even from Underwood in the post-game, he said they were expecting Rodgers would struggle if/when guarded by Edey, and it was a hard thing to practice (because they don't have a 7-4 300 lb guy around to provide context). Eventually they found a lineup that worked (5 shooters with Hawkins-Guerrier-Domask-Harmon-Goode), but the lack of defensive rebounding just put them in too big a hole.
  24. FG no good, Cards get 4th pick, Chargers 5th pick, likely one of those 2 gets MHJ.
  25. If you are the Cardinals head coach, do you hope this FG goes in so you lose 2 draft spots?
