  1. SS prospects and injured pitching prospects are the new market inefficiency.
  2. I'm kind of expecting the PTBNL to be the A's Alcantara, from how much his name was bandied about yesterday, and the fact that he's injured right now.
  3. Catching up on Len's twitter feed, looks like even he's getting frustrated with fans' lack of understanding... Len Kasper @LenKasper · 1h I REPEAT: stockpiling SS's is a good thing. Sheffield/Cabrera/A-Rod/Yount/Matt Williams/Billy Hamilton all began as SS's. Long list. Len Kasper @LenKasper · 1h If the Cubs were stockpiling LF's, then yes, you could be concerned. @LenKasper · 1h Cubs got best 3 months of Hammel's career & sold very very high on Samardzija who wasn't gonna sign long-term deal. & the issue is...what?
  4. Valbuena has been in an awful slump the past two weeks or so.
  5. No. Sutcliffe said that Theo said that if they win 10 in a row we're buyers. Almost halfway there. I'd say if they were somehow ahead of the Marlins by the ASB, they might actually be considered contenders. They'd still have 4 other teams to pass, but 4 is more reasonable than 8, and if they can get past the Marlins, they'll be within striking distance of everyone else. For now, they're just "not terrible", which is a change of pace, but not buyer territory.
  6. As usual, Donovan cares 6 months after we need him to.
  7. ESPN's team of baseball...talkers...voted on All-Star representatives: http://espn.go.com/mlb/allstar14/story/_/id/11167080/espn-national-league-all-stars Cubs mentioned: Rizzo, Castro, Samardzija, Hammel and Arrieta.
  8. Always nice to sweep the world series champions.
  9. Two walks, a HR, and a Rizzo SB, and there hasn't been so much as an out yet.
  10. Unfortunately nobody does what Jozy does, aside from maybe Boyd, who would have been a better call than Wondo in hindsight.
  11. If you picked inning number five - a winnar is you! *checks score* Looks like a 1-1 game to me.
  12. Who better to steal a goal than Wondo...
  13. All that shameful time wasting, not to mention the Campbell garbage yellow on Besler, yet I'm still glad Greece is out.
  14. @GrantWahl 15m Costa Rica-Greece: Where shots go out of bounds for throw-ins.
  15. Mark Geiger got selected to do the France-Nigeria match, the first time a US referee has done a World Cup knockout round match. Granted, it's France Nigeria, where his job will be to mostly console frustrated Nigerians after all the goals are scored.
  16. And the bar again, and Brazil is through.
  17. And the Eddy Curry trade ends with Doug McDermott:
  18. Sets up almost perfectly for a Brazil-Germany-Netherlands-Argentina semi.
  19. So here we are. CONMEBOL quarter Brazil (A1) v Chile (B2) Colombia (C1) v Uruguay (D2) CAF quarter France (E1) v Nigeria (F2) Germany (G1) v Algeria (H2) CONCACAF quarter Netherlands (B1) v Mexico (A2) Costa Rica (D1) v Greece (C2) If Argentina doesn't win... quarter Argentina (F1) v Switzerland (E2) Belgium (H1) v USA (G2)
  20. Maybe this should be in the "Gam" thread, but how are the number of spots in the World Cup by geography assigned? I assume it has something to do with world rankings, but does it change ever? It's pretty much just assigned randomly by FIFA according to relative strength of each federation, with the host federation usually picking up a freebie. They've lately been splitting bids between federations and having a playoff for the final couple spots, and this cycle there was a CONCACAF-OFC split (Mexico-New Zealand) and a CONMEBOL-AFC split (Uruguay-Jordan).
  21. On the flip side, teams eliminated... UEFA: Spain, Italy, England, Croatia, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina and maybe Russia CAF: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon and maybe Algeria AFC: Australia, Japan, Iran and likely South Korea CONMEBOL: Ecuador CONCACAF: Honduras
  22. UEFA advancing teams: Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, and maybe Russia CONMEBOL advancing teams: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and Uruguay CONCACAF advancing teams: USA, Mexico, and Costa Rica CAF advancing teams: Nigeria and maybe Algeria AFC advancing teams: 1% chance of South Korea.
  23. Potentially, we have a road of Belgium, Argentina, Netherlands, Germany/Brazil. That's as bad as it gets. Chile potentially has a road of Brazil, Colombia, Germany/France, and Netherlands. Russia/Algeria potentially has a road of Germany, France, Brazil, and Netherlands. The USMNT is about in as good a place as they can be if the worst case scenario is Argentina by the quarters.
  24. A cross in a driving rain. Accuracy is a little tricky.
  25. Portugoal.
