  1. Indeed, but let's hope not since they'd probably have to beat us to face them ya...my point was really i wasn't sure what other viable nl playoff contenders he was talking about That was the point...nobody else in the NL are even likely to finish over .500.
  2. of course we can. so can the dbacks or rockies. Or any of the other viable NL playoff contenders...
  3. He didn't deserve to have his life ruined for trying to field a baseball in 2003, but you didn't get to decide that either. This is a mostly private way for the Cubs to make a restitution, and it didn't prevent the team from any baseball operations. It's a marketing move, and though it's a weird thing to do, it's been a weird thing for 15 years, so it's a form of closure for everyone involved.
  4. This is a tweet from a sports anchor from Detroit, so take it for what it's worth: [tweet] [/tweet]
  5. Fun fact: As of today, only Tampa and Milwaukee are within 3 games of a playoff spot.
  6. Patiently waiting for the next hot take of "Sure he's an average LF, but he'd be awful at short."
  7. That spot can be reserved for the Cards as far as I'm concerned.
  8. Gives the White Sox something to play for for four games.
  9. It earns at worst a spot in a playoff to determine who attends the 2021 Confederations Cup in Qatar, which includes the winners of each federation cup, the winners of the 2018 World cup, and Qatar. EDIT: Forgot that FIFA stripped the Confederations Cup from Qatar, because playing soccer in Qatar is stupid. The next confederations cup will be in TBA Asian country, hopefully some place like Japan or Australia.
  10. None of the USMNT European players were involved with the Gold Cup, so they could train and prep for the beginning of their club seasons. That includes Yedlin, Brooks, Cameron, Fab, Pulisic, Wood and Chandler. I think Lichaj was the only Euro player called in, specifically to evaluate his potential going forward.
  11. Damn it, Javy, now there's two outs and they still need 11 pitches to reach 200.
  12. Secretly hoping for a 200 pitch day for the White Sox staff. They need 37 pitcher in the 8th to make it happen.
  13. I feel like 75% of the hand-wringing in game threads would be alleviated if everyone understood that pitchers allow hits and runs on occasion, even in tight situations. Except Wade Davis.
  14. Related: White Sox pitching has thrown 173 pitches through 7 innings.
  15. It's not just Javy, 16 of the 20 outs the Cubs have made today have been strikeouts. They also have 8 walks. Automatic strike zones, please.
  16. Pop up in the infield....oh wait...looks like it'll fall in...Heyward picks it up from the ivy and the game is tied.
  17. Now the Pirates have won 5 straight and may fancy themselves buyers.
  18. Well, the officiating was the worst I can remember, the El Sal team was shameless, the back line was suspect, the passing was off, the finishing was non existent, and it was still 2-0 at the end of the day.
  19. Aptly, his body is held together by hot glue.
  20. Mike Montgomery now has more MLB HRs than Dan Vogelbach
  21. Little surprised Rondon is in, but he's certainly mowing them down.
