  1. SIU defeats Chattanooga 63-41 in the 1st round of the Anaheim Classic. Very impressed with our defense today. Chattanooga put up a lot of points on Indiana and we held them to barely over 40 points. Falker scored 21 and had 8 boards. Probably the best thing about his performance was his improved shooting at the free throw line. Next up are the Bulldogs of Mississippi State tomorrow afternoon. Should be a good test for us. Winner--most likely--gets USC on Sunday night.
  2. Yeah, but for 3 more years than Hunter, and he'll make $19M in those years, and he'll be old. Indeed, but I'm getting the feeling that Soriano's contract will become more and more tolerable as the years go on in terms of money if these kinds of contracts become the norm. I'll bet a lot of people thought that about Sosa's deal too. Let's hope it's a big upswing then and not a slow rise or decrease. You're right, but it's humorous to see Torii Hunter get paid more than Soriano. It's a terrible deal for the Angels for a player that isn't that great. I really don't understand their line of thinking so far this offseason.
  3. Are you making the trip to DeKalb on Saturday for the football game? We were going to be there to broadcast the game, but NIU's incompetent SID apparently didn't even know we were coming or our incompetent sports director didn't tell them we were (pick a target). Anyway, long story short, we can't broadcast, so I will not be there. Luckily it is on Comcast Sportsnet so I can still watch. Are you going? Yeah, I'm back up here now so I'm going to go with some friends. It doesn't surprise me that NIU has an incompetent SID. They have a ton of things within that are incompetent. Well, have fun watching the next great MAC QB in person. :) Basically the only reason I'm going is to see Nate Davis play. He's going to have some fun tearing up NIU's defense.

  6. Ok screw it just tank the rest of the season. Get a hopefully top 5 pick with the possible freshman coming out its going to be a great draft. Rose, Love, Beasely, Gordon, Mayo, etc.... Sign Kobe since he will be a free agent, and then trade Gordon for something. This team sucks and its pointless to hope for barely making the playoffs. Signing Kobe as a FA really isn't plausible because he isn't a FA until next offseason. And even then, the Bulls won't have the cap room to sign him without trading some of the current players on the team. I'd love to tank because this team isn't going anywhere this year besides another 1 and out in the playoffs. But we all know that won't happen.
  7. Bulls well on their way to another blowout loss. Thomas Gardner has been in the game for far too long. About to be 2-8...
  8. Solid end to the half. Defensive intensity needs to remain where it's at right now and the Illini need to continue to push it down the offensive end.
  9. Illinois' offense still blows.
  10. All because he changed his mind on Illinois? How many times did you change your mind as an 18 year old? Meanwhile there are two individuals in Illinois' program who are lucky they are still able to walk. That "decison" was worse than Gordon ever made. Well, I'm 19 and I don't change my mind much.
  11. MJH brought it up to him in an interview earlier this afternoon. He didn't totally shoot it down, but he gave them a very PR-like response in saying, "We're happy with what we have right now."
  12. Very solid start for the Illini so far :)
  13. I considered going to Mizzou for school and I'm still bitter towards Self and co. when they beat us in the Sweet 16 last year. Yet I'm still going to root for Kansas in this game because of a guy named Mark Mangino. What a man.
  14. Did anyone catch the end of the LSU-Oklahoma St. game? With around 20 seconds left, Oklahoma St. grabbed an offensive rebound but an LSU player deflected the ball and it appeared LSU had stolen the ball. But OSU's coach called for a timeout while the ball was loose and the refs actually gave them the timeout. Granted, LSU played a terrible first half, but they had a chance to tie the game before they got jobbed. Tough break for them.
  15. Bourque's out for about a month after breaking his thumb on Saturday.
  16. How did Fay look Flames? Decent for his first game. Hit a 3 and then came back on a possession or two later and made a nice post-up move. He took a couple of hard charges as well. He still does need to get a little better on the defensive end, but I'm not worried about that yet.
  17. So I heard that Illinois can make the BCS as long as they finish 14th in the BCS rankings because of the rule where only 2 teams from a conference can make a BCS game. It still might be a longshot, but there's a chance that Illinois could be in a BCS game. SIU got the #4 overall seed in the I-AA playoffs meaning that we'll have home field advantage for at least the first two rounds. Our first round game is against Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
  18. SIU beat NIU 88-68 in the first game of the regular season. Final score isn't an indicator of how much of a blowout the game really was. SIU led 75-47 before we decided to empty the bench. Our bench really didn't play that great defensively. To say Lowery was pissed would be an understatement. Our starting 5 really played well both offensively and defensively. We jumped out to a 17-0 lead and NIU didn't score a point until there were an even 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half. SIU will now travel out to Anaheim to play in a tournament out there. We open up against Chattanooga on Thanksgiving afternoon.
  19. Exactly. This game should be a concern for the Illini. This is the defintion of a trap game. Told you. Thankfully, they were able to come back from a 12 point deficit and pull it out. I think this game will really help them in the long run. I think it already showed Weber that DMac has to play the bulk of the minutes. Meachem is just not good enough to play at this level. The sooner Weber finds this out, the better. I can't stand Meachem, so anything to get him out of the rotation is fine with me.

  22. "Twisted knee" for Dixon. He's done for the night, and probably the season. What a tough break for the Ducks.
  23. It's worth nothing. Who starts doesn't matter. If it's me, I play noc and Tyrus, benching Wallace. That would be the ideal move, but we all know that won't happen.
  24. It gets old. If you don't like it, don't post in an NBA thread. I hate soccer, but I don't voice my displeasure about it in that thread. And for what it's worth, the bald-headed fool benched Tyrus tonight for Nocioni. 1-6 here we come.
