  1. Trestman was similar to hiring most college coaches. He had NFL coordinator experience and head coaching experience with a lot of success, albeit at a different level. The biggest issue I had was that he was getting into the NFL as a head coach much later than typical college coaches do. He was 56 when hired. Harbaugh, Schiano, Chip Kelly were all in their 40s when hired from college. The only older college coach to really have success off the top of my head is Pete Carroll. Even back to Jimmy Johnson, who was in his 40s when he went to Dallas and had tons of success, then they went to 57 year old Switzer who failed.
  2. I would live with it but would not think highly of the team's chances. Yeah, I'm with you. Shanahan could maybe be respectable for a couple years. But I wouldn't expect this team to be a championship contender under him. And it would be just buying time til a new regime.
  3. I think that's a jab at the D. This team is a mess.
  4. Yep. There should never be rumors of an NFL coach getting fired at the end of the season, unless he is tenured and has earned the player's respect and right to finish out the year (Rex Ryan). The day you decide the coach isn't going to be there in the future, you get rid of him and let someone else do the job. I still can't believe Tucker is still here. How bad to you have to be? Worst defense ever last year. Basically asking to get fired 3 weeks in a row (bye, @GB, @NE).
  5. Good QBs are never available in free agency. In the 2016 draft (assuming Winston and Mariota come out this year), you have Christian Hackenberg from Penn St.(who was borderline terrible this year, but has upside comparable to Andrew Luck according to some) and Connor Cook from Michigan St. Both are probably better than Mariota and Winston if they stay another year and perform the way people think they should. Maybe the TCU QB has a shot with another big year, but I don't know about is ability to run an NFL style offense and make accurate reads/throws. Jared Goff at Cal. I also fear Penn State's horrible OL and WRs are having a really detrimental effect on Hackenberg. Yeah, his supporting cast was terrible. But I feel like he never really took control and made those around him better. Hundley, for example, at least seemed to make the most of a bad team surrounding him. Of course, he also had a good defense. But I felt like Hack never really got into a groove this season. Next year is huge for him.
  6. You might get a fourth. Alex Smith got 2 2nds, including the 1st pick of the 2nd (I believe). I'd imagine you could maybe get a 2nd and 4th for Cutler if the team really likes him. Maybe a pair of 3rds or a swap of 2nds and a 3rd or something like that.

I like Brett Hundley too from UCLA but he's not a franchise QB and his stock has fallen so much this season. Hundley is OK. But he's a reach at 9. And he's not a Day 1 starter. FWIW, there is also Gunner Kiel and Everett Golson. The Auburn QB Johnson could really blow up next year too. Huge kid.

  9. Poor is a severe overstatement. Poor is Clausen's career.
  10. I think that's the Skins thinking. But the Bears? Cutler's not a kid coming off an injury. This makes no sense. As for rebuilding, if they cut Cutler, they still have Marshall, Allen, Mundy, Bushrod, Forte and other vets who aren't going to be part of that process. They aren't going to cut 40 million worth of players or make them sit thru a complete overhaul.
  11. I want Bradford at this point. I trust him to be healthy and good next year and in the foreseeable future more than any other potential FA QB or any non Heisman winning QB inm this draft.
  12. Clausen 1-15 as a starter with a 58 QB rating. LMAO
  13. Im guessing with the recent [expletive], Cutler asked out to some extent. Or could be Trestman trying to save his job by showing another QB can get it snd push the blame to Jay (would have Clausen and McCown as evidence).
  14. Cutler benched. Lol. [expletive] this season and next.
  15. Maybin is an easy choice for me of those 3. Though Bourn's leadoffiness does intrigue me.
  16. So Coghlan, Alcantara, Soler, Sweeney. Is that it for the OF? Gotta add a GOOD bat. Gomes does not apply.
  17. I understand why Cutler gets a ton of blame. But the #32nd ranked scoring defense is getting off easy. If Cutler was having an MVP level season, the Bears would maybe have 2 months wins with this defense.
  18. I'd throw bodies at the back 7 the way the Bears did ay the front 4 last offseason. Overhaul is needed.
  19. First, the Bears are losing 2 LBs. Briggs and Williams. Second, I don't think u can count on any of the LBs left on the roster to perform next year. Bostic is bad. Jones is talented but not enough for anyone to draft him after a positive weed test. Sharpton played 2 games after not being on a team early in the year. I think u need 1 vet and 1 top 100 draft pick at the position.
  20. Its a luxury, but not an unobtainable one based on cost IMO. We should have enough cap space for at least 3 solid spots in FA with highish priced vets. Hopefully the top two picks fill two of those spots immediately. That's 5/8 of the ones you listed. All depends on how you allocate those resources but there's enough leeway on some of those spots to fill the "underrated" route as would this WR. Two of the spots you listed alone are backups who only plays during injury vs a WR who would get regular offensive and ST snaps. True. And I have a WR in the 3rd or 4th in my personal mock draft. But that's provided free agency yields dividends.
  21. Stanley is the read deal. Tough to pass him up. Really starting to like the thought of going 3-4 and taking Fowler and then trying to get a S in the 2nd. I don't know about Collins in the top 10, plus I think the Bears need a S than can really cover.
  22. The Bears offense was fine last year without that type of WR. That's a luxury right now. They can obviously score enough with Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, and Forte. Wilson will help. Maybe they get something out of Bellamy next year. And I'm pretty sure they'll bring in a KR type, but it's way down the list behind DE, LBx2, S, CB, OT, OC, and backup OG and QB.
  23. Depressing is when you look at Tannehill, Geno Smith, and Manuel. Smith - 26/43 316yds 1TD 2INT Tannehill - 25/32 277yds 2TD 0INT Manuel - 16/22 173yds 1TD 1INT Totals - 67/97 for 766yds 4TD and 3INTs Not all that special outside of Tannehill. All their best games of the year though. LOL
