  1. This is from Peter King. The SI-Rex Grossman Hatred Parade Continues. I dont care that Grossman is a bear. I want him to piss all over the league, next year. I want him to go bananas. I never personally rooted for another player in any sport like I do for him now. Is he talking 27th out of all the QB's in the league? If so give me a damn break. It's Peter King. He may be ranking him as the 27th best QB in the NFC Central.
  2. It's the exception that proves the rule, kind of like being satisfied with an 83 win team because STL won it that way or not worrying about a very slow start because Houston had a great second half. Detroit didn't just draft and develop their own though, the whole team was pretty much brought in from other teams. Trades were made. People are clamoring to stay the same, and even talking of signing Kobe as a free agent. With the salary cap, it will be impossible for them to keep all their players (and sign them to the contracts they will require) then sign Kobe. 1 team out of the past however many dozens of champions has done it without a superstar. I think it's a huge mistake to try and repeat that sort of flukey result. Again, I agree. And I would rather they go after Kobe ASAP. I just don't think the way they are going is a mistake. It's how they got to be one of the top 7-8 teams in the NBA. Granted they won't have top 10 picks after this year to add to the numerous top 10 guys they already have, but I think adding an inside player that can score a little and play some D would go a long way to giving the Bulls a legit shot to win it all.
  3. I'm going to try to be there. I'm going to try and get to the opener myself. I won't know for at least a couple months though.
  4. I agree with most of what you said, but that's the point though. Detroit has won, so it is possible to win without a star. And they have been at the top of the conf. with pretty much the same core players. I'm one of the people that wants Kobe badly, but I don't see how the Bulls can't do what Detroit has done. As you said, the East is weak. The Bulls competed with Detroit pretty well, and they have played some great games with Cleveland over the last few years. I think the Bulls are one player away from arguably being the best team in the East. That player doesn't have to be a star. A Rasheed Wallace type player would put them over the top.
  5. He has an opt-out clause, a trade kicker, and a no-trade clause in his current contract. No trade clauses are unheard of in the NBA. He won't be eligible for one with his new team. I don't think he'll be anxious to tear up his existing contract in favor of a new one with his new team. Kobe holds the majority of the cards here with his no-trade and opt-out clauses in hand. Sounds like he does, but it also sounds like he will have to compromise if he really wants to be traded. Exactly. Whatever Kobe wants, he will get.....if he wants it bad enough. The Bulls do have to take the opt out into account also. They may just have a 2-year window regardless, due to Wallace's age among other factors.
  6. Yeah, I don't see the Cubs trading DeRosa. Then again, they do have Fontenot, Theriot and Eric Patterson (if he's still a 2B) who can play there. His contract is not a bad one. His production is fine for 2B. I'm not opposed to trading anyone, but it's one of those deals where the prospect/player in return would probably have to be a steal for the Cubs in order to accept the deal. Whereas a deal for a pending FA or salary dump would take a lesser prospect.
  7. Yeah, I've heard that too, but what if bridges have been burned? Kobe's recent comments have been since the O'Neal rumors started. If Kobe really wants out, the Lakers certainly aren't gonna go into the season with the lineup posted earlier. I can't see the Lakers without that big name in the lineup.
  8. What about a 3-way deal? I've heard rumors of Odom and Bynum to Indiana for O'Neal. What about something involving Kobe to the Bulls, O'Neal, Nocioni, and Gordon to the Lakers and the Pacers getting Odom (to make the salaries work), Bynum, Tyrus, and a draft pick? Works for the Bulls as they keep Deng, Hinrich and Wallace, and should be able to clear the room for Kobe. Works for the Lakers, because they get another big name inside and somewhat replace Kobe's scoring at the 2G spot. Works for the Pacers as they get younger, since they aren't gonna be good anytime soon.
  9. Other than the interdivision thing, I don't see why anyone wouldn't trade Marshall for a player of Griffey's caliber.
  10. Not a guy that's gonna put your team over the top, but has looked better recently other than when defensive lapses cause him to lose his concentration. That's right. Jason Marquis is available! I will take a minimal minor leaguer for him.
  11. I've been thinking about this, and I don't know that this is all that accurate. The Bears made the Superbowl last year without Tommie. I don't see why they can't do it again. They are still clearly the best team in the NFC. That being said, I think they can get into some trouble if Tommie gets hurt, Dusty is ineffective, and Tank hasn't made it back from suspension yet. The only player the defense can't do without is Urlacher.
  12. Ugh! That was rather predictable. I think people need to realize that just because Sabathia and Zambrano are 2 of the biggest and strongest pitchers in the world, they don't have to throw 115 pitches every time out.
  13. David Clyde...and he was a Texas Ranger. Has to be the biggest in baseball history. Even though they had a couple big years, if they never pitch again, have to include Prior and Wood on this list.
  14. You have to take a lot in account in the Cedeno v. Theriot argument. On one hand, you have a 27-yo college experienced guy, on the other there's a 24-yo raw player. Theriot hasn't hit well recently and has a low .600s OPS since the 3rd week of the season. Ironically, very similar to what Cedeno did last year. There's a much better chance that Ronny improves than Theriot, simply because age and talent are on his side. Defensively, there's no signs to point to Cedeno ever being as bad as he was last year. Theriot is definitely more sure handed of the two, but range and arm go decidedly in Cedeno's favor. That being said, if Izturis is still gonna get the ABs at SS, then Theriot is the better option to start occassionally and pinch hit. But once the Cubs decide the Izturis experiment is over, then Cedeno should be handed the SS job.
  15. Would have liked to seen Lilly finish this one. Give Dempster another day off. Z most likely won't finish the game tomorrow. Lilly only had about 92 pitches going into the 9th.
  16. Wow. Lou sticking with a lineup. Nice to see. Need to throw this team out there everyday (other than C) until Ramirez comes back, with Ward mixed in as DH next week.
  17. You mean the first three days of the season? Yeah, Jason Marquis was the best pitcher.
  18. No offense to anyone. But I'd be interested to see how the voting breaks down. -Former Cubs.com vs. former ESPN posters. -Age, I think is playing a large factor also. -And maybe the largest factor, real vote (who voter really likes best) vs. fake vote (based on spite, underdog, or trying to keep it close)
  19. Yeah, I heard that. Well, it is composed of two LOOGY's, a guy who was unavailable today, a long man who has had just two outings in the major leagues, and Scott Eyre. That doesn't leave too many people who can give innings in close games. My guess is that Rapada will be sent right back down on Tuesday when Ward hopefully comes back. If he does come back then, the Cubs could really use him as the DH during the Rangers and White Sox series. Forgot about Ward. Will be nice to get him in the lineup with Ramirez out.
  20. Hey, the Cubs are good! They win 1-run games now! Two 1-run wins the first 2 months of the year, 4 in the last 8. Heh. i guess they are clutch.
  21. I have both in another league of mine. Both put up near 50 points last week in a 350 point week for me, putting my win streak at 7. I'm down over 50 now thanks to no hitting and Verlander's 63 point outing.
  22. Seriously, I can do better. Left-handed. And I'm a righty. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but damn this is sickening. Ramirez being out wouldn't be so bad if Soriano, Lee, and Jones were all sucking right now.
  23. I wouldn't mind Chris Brown. To me, he's similar to AP, maybe a bit better, but less bruising. 4 RBs is definitely not overkill. Especially since one is primarily a 3rd down back.
  24. are you married now? Congratulations! I guess my invitation got lost in the mail . . . Not yet. 23 days of freedom left.
  25. Yeah, my offense isn't doing much either. 18-74 going against a 10-63 really helps though. My team is gonna hear a mouthful if I don't get my points lead back by the end of the week. I will accept no loafing.
