  1. Hand is terrible. Koehler is OK, but I'd rather take my chances with Wada's much better K rate and FIP and Turner's upside in the 5th spot over him.
  2. Late to the party, but I actually agree with Kyle here. He's being pretty realistic and honest here (threw up in my mouth a little). Honestly, it does suck that it took 3 absolutely terrible years to ONLY be the 5th or 6th best team in the NL in the 4th year. But it's also pretty cool that the 5th best team in the NL gets into the playoffs where anything can happen. And it's even cooler to reasonably expect this team to continue to get better in the foreseeable future.
  3. I think the "not brilliant" part makes it less likely the Bears lose 12. Trestman thought he could throw Cutler out of a slump. Fox will run the ball endlessly with a number of backs to get the job done. And the Broncos offense the last year was basically a bunch of WR screens a rub routes because Peyton can't throw anymore. Fox is more likely to dumb things down when they are struggling. And that seems like it will help a less talented team be competitive.
  4. I really liked Sherrod Martin coming out in the draft, but he's been below mediocre in his career. Thomas is a short yardage back who fumbles. If he shows ball security, he could make the team over Jacquizz Rodgers, as a change of pace, pass catching back isn't really a need. I really think they need to find an OL and a DL help. Unless Kyle Long is all-in at one of the tackle spots, you still are looking at Mills and Ola/Leno competing for RT. And they still haven't replaced McDonald, who was projected as a starter on a pretty weak area of the team. The Bears still have about 8.2Mil in cap space from what I read. Red Bryant is still out there and is a great run defender for the base D. Jake Long, Evan Mathis, and John Moffitt are available on the OL. The latter two are potential starting caliber guards if Kyle Long moves permanently outside, though Moffitt has been out of the league about 18 months due to drug addiction, I don't know if that's something the Bears want to do right now.
  5. Yeah, the Bears aren't going to be good. But they aren't going to be terrible unless they are really killed by injuries. Not that they have a ton of talent, but they have enough and enough coaching to win 6-9 games this year, which is well beyond #1 pick range.
  6. Yet, all they need to do is beat the Pirates 1 time (won 6 of 10 so far) and the Cards 4 out of 7 to make the NLCS at least.
  7. Its gonna take months for the media to forget about that one. There comes a point when it's no longer a "narrative" and actually a reality that Starlin is incredibly talented but incredibly dumb and inconsistent. And that is this moment? If I had a dollar for everytime someone made fun of the Starlin narrative this year, I'd be rich. It's a narrative because it's true. Not making fun. Asking a legit question. Your first post made it seem like that moment is either currently or coming in the future. Your most recent response makes it sound like that point has been reached to you. Just didn't know why THIS was the moment that made it "real" for you.

  9. Hamels and Papelbon would be ideal. But I'd also really like Reddick, Clippard and Kazmir, though I'm assuming wouldn't be able to get all reasonably.
  10. Fowler and Bourn aren't all that similar. Bourn's game depended entirely on his speed, while Fowler can actually hit and has more on base skills. Bourn has a career 8.4% BB rate, .332 OBP, and .093 ISO. Fowler has a career 12.3% BB rate, .363 OBP, and .149 ISO. Sure, he benefited from Coors Field (though he did put up an OBP over .370 as an Astro) but he has more offensive skills to fall back on than Bourn had/has. Just hopefully he doesn't go back to being terrible in CF. His bat is playable in LF if things get to bad (that's of course assuming LF is not manned by Bryant). I see no downside in paying Fowler 12-15M/year. He's good enough. He fills a hole currently and in the long-term (CF and top of order hitter). Bat plays at corner OF. And he's tradeable if Baez is a beast, Bryant's in LF, and he can't hack it in CF anymore. Though, I tend to think the smaller OF in Wrigley helps him a ton. Colorado and Houston are huge CFs, that couldn't have helped a guy who isn't extremely fast out there.
  11. Schwarber .667/.667/1.000 slash line. Cubs undefeated and averaging 17 runs in games he starts. I say, leave him up.
  12. 12 pitches, 7 strikes. Popout, groundout back to himself, fly out
  13. There's always Jaxon. Encouraging though that Wada has less than 80 pitches thru 3 for a change.
  14. Ugh. I really wanted Bryant to get a hit so everyone could have one by the 3rd.
  15. I'm 98% sure it's a white guy's account. The people who find it funny are white guys who've never known any black people.
  16. Sign me up for: Vs. RHP: Fowler Coghlan Bryant Rizzo Soler Schwarber Russell Montero Castro Vs. LHP Fowler Russell Rizzo Bryant Soler Schwarber Castro Lake (if not yet eligible for return, Baxter can develop fake injury) Montero Good opportunity to give Russell a shot out of hat 9 spot. Eh. Rizzo/Bryant need to be 2-3. Why put a low OBP in front of them, moving one to the 4th spot. Meaning, the one hitting cleanup is likely going to be leading off a bunch of innings when the other doesn't get on base. CF Fowler LF Bryant 1B Rizzo RF Soler DH Schwarber C Montero SS Castro 2B Russell 3B Baez (if we're including Soler, might as well include Baez)
  17. I agree with most of this. I think they'll try to bring Richards back for another year. I thought he was very good the last 2-3 weeks, and is really good with Kane. I think I would see what I could get for Seabrook, if I was able to get Oduya back. Seabs is better than Oduya, but if they could get a couple guys and a pick for the price of Seabrook....you have to strongly consider it. But it would have to be a complete steal for me to want to give him up with Oduya gone, because of the lack of talent on D.
  18. Just making sure you know he's not Russian, right? Given the context of him mentioning Crosby and why people can dislike him first, I think he's talking about teams led by russians like Ovechkin. Yes this. But goony is right to call me out as I was extremely unclear.
  19. Just making sure you know he's not Russian, right? Yeah, I know. That comment was actually meant for Malkin, who I thought I wrote in my first sentence along with Crosby. But basically, I meant that stupid American fans hate any non-North American/Western European players. In summary, that post was a total fail.
  20. Yeah, likeable stars is it. Crosby isn't likeable because he has a reputation of being soft and getting all the calls. Toews and Kane don't. I think American fans also really hate Russian players for the most part. I think you'd see a lot more hate if Hossa was the biggest star on the team. Also, the Hawks don't have any really "dirty" players or play a dirty style of hockey like many other teams that have had success with recently.
  21. Couldn't disagree more. Yeah, I absolutely love Saad. Toews, Kane, Saad, Keith, Hammer, Crawford are the core.
  22. Best birthday present ever!
