  1. At first glance, Packers ran circles around the rest of the league in the draft again. Damnit.
  2. I'm ok with the draft. Carimi was a best case scenario type pick. And Paea is a steal in the 2nd, though I don't think I would have made the trade up to get him. I would have taken my chances that he'd fall or be fine with Nevis or McClain. Overall, the draft turned out almost exactly how I figured it would. I didn't know Carimi would be there at 29 or that Paea would be on the board in reasonable trade up range. But I knew they were going OL and DT with the first 2 picks. I also knew Enderle would be picked (though I thought in the 6th). I also knew they would take a LB (thought in the 5th), as only Briggs and Urlacher are currently under contract at the position. And the Bears always pick safeties. But I was figuring the Bears would try to go UP from the 6 picks they had rather than down. I thought a trade down was a strong possibility with the Bears picking up an extra 3rd or 4th rounder. So, that's where I thought they would get another OL and either a WR or CB (figured not both). Really need to spend big money on a G still, whenever they are allowed to. Need to bring in a legit WR to make Knox the 2, Bennett and Hester the 3 and 4. And guys like Bowman and Joshua Moore better really step up at CB next year, because I don't see lightning striking with Tim Jennings again.
  3. Sort of off topic, but Lombardi and La Canfora are a huge downgrade from Schefter. I didn't realize how big of a downgrade that actually was until I saw their coverage on NFLN. They should've offered Schefter a blank check to keep him at NFLN when they had the chance. To be fair, Schefter was kind of weak on NFLN. He's really stepped up his game in getting inside info since moving to ESPN.
  4. My top 5 drafts so far: New Orleans- Cam Jordan was neck and neck with Watt, who went 11th. Saints got him at 24. Arguably got the top DE and RB in the draft. Throw in arguably the top ILB in the draft (Wilson) and a ballhawk to throw in the CB risk, and who cares that NO has to wait 130 picks to take another player. Their draft is done, and done well. Cleveland- the extra picks they got are sweet, and with Holmgren in charge of them...they will turn the franchise around. And when they did pick, they did it well. Phil Taylor is pretty much a beast up front. Sheard was one of the top 3, 4-3 DEs in this draft. A good get for a team transitioning from 3-4. Greg Little is a perfect fit for their quick, short passing attack with Colt McCoy at QB. Indianapolis- got a top 15 pick at 22, arguably the best NFL ready LT in the draft. Got Ijalana at 49, which could be a steal with his versatility to play 4 of the 5 OL positions. Drake Nevis adds another quick body to the quickest DL in the league and they have some crazy first steps up front now with Nevis, Mathis and Freeney, the latter 2 should make Nevis' job easier. Houston- maybe I'm biased, because I always think Houston does a good job on draft day, but the result of the season is always the same. But going to a 3-4, they pulled off the best 3-4 DE in the draft (Watt), a rush LB getting compared to Clay Matthews (Reed), and get Brandon Harris, a CB I think is very similar to Asante Samuel with elite level ball skills and ability to jump routes. If nothing else, they got the 3 hardest workers at these 3 positions in this draft. Tampa Bay- not a big fan of Clayborne, but he can play. Bowers in the 2nd is a steal if he's even close to healthy. Their DL is now loaded with young talent. I also like Mason Foster, who I think is the most versatile LB in this draft. Can play inside in 3-4, and for Tampa can play all 3 positions in the 4-3. Honorable mention- Green Bay, Chicago, Dallas, NY Giants, Steelers My worst 5 drafts so far: Minnesota- I actually really like the players they picked. But seriously? TE was not a major need. Though they got the best in the draft, it wasn't some kind of steal that they couldn't pass up. And Ponder is actually my favorite QB in the draft. But 12th? They had a shot to go up 2-3 picks to get Gabbert. They had a shot to trade down and still get Ponder. They did neither. San Francisco- I had such high hopes for them. They had two 2nds, and multiple picks in 3 of the last 4 rounds. New coach, easy division, should have been primed to make a big splash in the draft. I thought Quinn would have been a better pick than Aldon Smith. I thought they would have used their plethora of picks to come up to get a QB (Dalton). They did come up to get Kaepernick, but that looks like a panic move as the QBs ahead of him were gone. I do like Kaerpernick, but he's not going to help them win this year. Culliver's a reach in the 3rd. San Diego- Another team with some picks. Five in the first 3 rounds. IMO, they got a prototype 3-technique in Liuget, who they are going to miscast as a 5-tech in the 3-4. Gilchrist is a 4th round talent to me, at either CB or S. Mouton was a 5th rounder, IMO. Vincent Brown was a round overdraft also. Shareece Wright pick is OK, but I thought Marsh, Curtis Brown, Davon House, and Brandon Burton were better CBs still on the board. Oakland- Wisnewski is an OK pick. But they had pretty good play at C last year. And if they are using Wis to replace Gallery at LG, I don't think that's a good fit. His best position is at C and he's about 1/2 the size of Gallery so there's some adjustment needing to be done there if they want to run to the left side. Van Dy-ke is another Raiders speed pick. He can run, but he won't tackle anyone, and isn't physical enough to handle Bowe, Demaryius Thomas, or the 6'5" guys in SD. Barksdale is boom/bust pick that I don't like personally. Detroit- like Minnesota, they got some players I like. This is probably a little stretch as I couldn't really find a 5th draft that I completely didn't like. But their biggest needs are CB, LB (probably 2 of each), OT, and FS. They didn't fill any of those positions. CB is now depleted. OTs left are late round projects. The FS class was thin to begin with. Sure, Fairley and Suh will be tough to block. Sure, Titus Young may be a beast along side Calvin. Sure, LeShoure could be the next Steven Jackson. But it doesn't do any good that when they don't get a sack, their DBs and LBs can't cover anyone, when they can't run block or stop someone from driving Stafford's shoulder in the turf again. Honorable mention- Tennessee, Seattle
  5. Depends on the labor situation. If we are going by 2010 rules you basically got Braylon Edwards. If there's a new CBA in the near future, there's a pretty decent class. James Jones, Sidney Rice, Malcom Floyd, Steve Smith, Jacoby Jones.
  6. Royster has a deadly combination of being slow, not being shifty, and the inability to put up numbers vs. good teams. The last 2 years, he's done almost nothing against any defense in the top 50 in the nation. He was pretty much pushed into the late rounds after 4 games this past season.
  7. Yeah, this is easily the best matchup for the Bulls.
  8. Good pick. Wonderful pass catcher. He's actually kind of like Starks. Decent size. Runs hard. But runs a little straight up. Has some deceptive speed and if he gets daylight can take it to the house. But he's not going to make anyone miss. Not very shifty. Rarely used at Hawaii due to the offense his first couple years there. Doesn't have a lot of wear and tear.
  9. This round has sucked. I had hopes for Hankerson, Mason Foster, Rackley, and Martez Wilson in this round. And I figured guys like Pettis, Vincent Brown, and Moffitt would be there next round.
  10. Cobb is Percy Harvin without the high profile college experience. Wow you think that high of him? If so my love for this pick might have turned into marriage. Yeah man. The exact same size. Harvin's a little faster, a little quicker, but not substantially so. They can do all the same things. That sounds awesome. Heard he can return punts as well which is big for Green Bay. Also, a little late on this but I was so scared that Bowers was going to fall back to the Lions as well. But man they are going to be tough this year. Not used to this. Eh, Lions still can't do anything on the back 7. Their biggest needs were CB, LB, and OT and they haven't addressed any of those so far.
  11. Van Dy-ke refuses to ever tackle anyone. I probably wouldn't either if I was 6'1", 165lbs soaking wet.
  12. Quentin Carter is my darkhorse Bears pick. If they lose D Manning, he's a S but he also has pretty good man coverage skills for a FS.
  13. There goes Hankerson. CB may be the BPA.
  14. Cobb is Percy Harvin without the high profile college experience. Wow you think that high of him? If so my love for this pick might have turned into marriage. Yeah man. The exact same size. Harvin's a little faster, a little quicker, but not substantially so. They can do all the same things.
  15. Cobb is Percy Harvin without the high profile college experience.
  16. Not a fan of Ridley here, too early. Yeah, that comment was to the Mallett pick. Ridley is a terrible pick, IMO. They went RB the previous pick. And Ridley was a 2-3 round reach.
  17. Stop me if you've heard this before. Wonderful job being done by the Patriots in the draft.
  18. I really like Paea and think he's a great fit and meets a need but I wouldn't have complained about Hankerson or Little. Hopefully they address WR in free agency because I'm not a fan of what's left out there. Who is out there in free agency as far as receivers go? They need size obviously. I like Owens, but no one else does. Santonio Holmes is my top choice if the Jets don't bring him back. Other possibilities are Sidney Rice, Vincent Jackson, Malcolm Floyd, Braylon Edwards and James Jones. Yeah, Holmes would be perfect. The Bears would have drafted him had the STeelers not traded up in front of them that year. Still bitter over that. James Jones is my #2 choice. I think he'd be a great fit.
  19. Dallas quietly having a great draft. Lot of upside in their picks. Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter and Demarco Murray are all first round talents, the latter two had injuries that pushed them back.
  20. That's what I'm thinking also.
  21. Nope, still on the board.
  22. Interesting. I like Paea, but I don't know that I would have traded up for him. I thought the Bears really loved Terrell McClain. Drake Nevis was also still on the board.
  23. Agreed on all accounts.
  24. A big-time free agent signing this year could do the trick also. There's a pretty decent class of FA OGs, if the CBA isn't status quo. And there's a lot of interior OL talent available in the 2nd. Someone should be there for the Bears to take if that's what they want. As for RB, this has been called one of the deepest RB classes ever in the middle of the draft. DeMarco Murray would be the ideal pick. 6', 213lb, 4.37 RB out of Oklahoma. But he might be a mid-2nd to mid-3rd pick. I wouldn't take a RB before the 3rd. The rest (with the pick the Bears would likely have to use on them): Taiwan Jones- E. Washington - 3rd round Jordan Todman- UConn - probably 3rd Dion Lewis - Pitt - 4th round Da'Rel Scott -Maryland- 5th round Derrick Locke- Kentucky- 5th round (but he's tiny) Noel Devine- West VA- 6th round (tinier than Locke) Mario Fannin- Auburn - 6th round (ran 4.37 at combine, but is a big boy that doesn't play with that type of speed)
  25. Hankerson might be a nice pick for the Bears in the 2nd round. Unless the Bears think they can get a WR from free agency. But I've been WR focused all offseason. If Hankerson is still there the Bears should go for it. Then preferably DT/OL/CB in that order for rounds 3-5. That would work for me, except for 1 thing. If the Bears don't go CB in the 2nd or maybe get a CB steal in the 3rd, then I wouldn't draft one at all. I really don't see the need for a CB that's not going to be able to play this year. The last 2 years the Bears have redshirted DJ Moore and Joshua Moore as rookies. They would have done so with Zach Bowman too, but he got forced into 1 game due to injury and proceeded to be lost for the season after that. The Bears need top end talent at CB. I'd rather spend a 4th or 5th on another position that could help out this year (LB, S, RB) and if Webb and Carimi work out on the outside, spend early picks next year on interior OL and CB.
