  1. Per Theo, he'll play CF in Winterball in Puerto Rico. Interesting
  2. If we get Morejon, I'm hoping he turns out better than the last "high profile" Cuban lefthander that we signed - Concepcion. Is he still even in the organization?
  3. Geez, I wonder what the Reds were asking Red Sox for Chapman...
  4. Granted, it's Heyman, but in today's column he seems pretty sure Castro is staying...
  5. What Free agent pitcher aren't we in on....
  6. What if we call them the Gerrit Coles or Colby Rasmuses of the world, or the Adam Wainwrights or Carlos Quentins. Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Clay Buchholz come to mind do we have any idea where Schwarber would have slipped to if we hadn't taken him? it was widely seen as an overdraft at the time Can't remember where I read it, but pretty sure COL would have popped him at 8th overall if he got by us
  7. Hamstring.
  8. Strasburg has a career WHIP below 1.1 and ended the season on a high note. We would need a lot more than an inconsistent middle infielder who cant take a walk. The more intriguing scenario is giving up Baez for one year of Strasburg (as well as the comp picks if he werent brought back). One year of dominant power pitching, and two high end compensation picks, is worth the boom or bust toolsy Baez in my mind. I like Strasburg for Baez a lot. I don't think the Nats would though. It's too much of a risk for Rizzo who may well be on the hot seat this year. Who do the Padres have not name Cashner? Their GM loves to make risky gambles. Tyson Ross
  9. Latest from Klaw on Willson in the AFL • I only got to see the Cubs' Wilson Contreras hit but not catch, unfortunately, so I can't speak to his defensive abilities. But I can tell you his swing was one of my favorite right-handed swings in the AFL with a clean path and tremendous body control throughout. He loads back by his right shoulder and explodes forward to the ball with excellent hand strength that allowed him to adjust well to changing speeds and to pitches on the outer third. If he can catch as well as the Cubs believe he can, the decision to convert Schwarber to another position becomes even easier.
  10. Nice post TT, thanks for putting this together, good read. This used to be HoopsCubs forte back in the forum's early days, lol. Any idea where we sit with committed payroll, including projected arbitration eligibles for 2016? I'm guessing @ $100MM. If 2016 payroll target is @ $140MM, hopefully we'll have enough room to land a big FA pitching piece.
  11. Might have to wait until game 3 for Bryant - dude's got something in his head about hitting on the road vs. home. I'd start Coghlan tonight. Coghlan instead of Bryant? It'll never happen. Coughlan starting over Soler.
  12. For what it's worth, Klaw picking Cubs in 6 (he had Cubs over Cards in 4), & Jonah Keri also has Cubs in 6
  13. I was at the game tonight. Markey was impressive. I briefly had a chance to talk with Klaw. He said he was there to see Baez & Torres, but Markey was a bit of a surprise. Said that Cubs got great value as a 19th rd pick last year, thinks he could be a major league arm, but projecting forward, size is a bit of a concern. I thought Torres looked a bit overmatched at the plate ( he K'd twice) & made comment to Klaw. He pointed out how quick he got around on a foul ball & how ball jumped off his bat. Klaw also asked if I was around for BP (I wasn't), and said GB put on a good performance in BP. Zagunis didn't play, so I asked for his thoughts on Chesney Young, but he didn't think he's a guy.
  14. He's a free agent after the 2017 season. He's under team control for two more seasons after this one.
  15. I don't think this offer for Hamels is unreasonable either. Other than possibly Torres, I don't see a sure thing for Philly. Maybe Castro bounces back, but who the heck knows if that'll happen. Only piece I'd add would be cash coming back with Hamels, or, and I'm reaching, they just take Jackson's contract instead.
  16. Personally, I hope the Cubs aren't the team that pays him. There are better ways to find pitching. Price will be 30 and will get too long of a contract through his decline phase to make that kind of investment. The Cubs aren't drafting any so their only option is to buy it. Or trade for it.
  17. Wittenmyer just said Cubs are closing in on a deal with Soriano. We'll see...
  18. 1) Swanson 2) Bregman 3) Rogers 4) Tate 5) Tucker 6) Allard 7) Benintendi 8) Fulmer 9) Jay 10) Newman
  19. Law has Benintendi going to BOS at #7
  20. Hendricks had to throw 5 strikes in that ab, unreal.
  21. Rangers over Hawks in 7.... and Hawks fans will be even more disapointed that they let Kevin Hayes get away
  22. How many days left on the Bryantmeter?
  23. From Roto... Braves released LHP Wandy Rodriguez. Just two weeks ago manager Fredi Gonzalez said that Rodriguez had secured a spot in the rotation, but he had since backed off that statement. The left-hander was great this spring, posting a 3.13 ERA and 23/8 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He shouldn't have an issue catching on elsewhere. Eric Stults is now expected to serve as the Braves' fifth starter.
