  1. Davell, I'm not sure the article is 100% correct. I believe it left out the part about the larger market teams (ie Cubs) being revenue sharing "payees". I think that the Cubs get 2nd round picks after Competitive Balance round B, if Davis and Arrieta sign $50MM+ contracts.... revenue sharing "receivers" ie small market teams, would get a pick at the end of the 1st round for losing a $50MM+ contract player From the MLB website on details of the new CBA D. A Former Club of a Free Agent subject to draft pick compensation will receive the following: •A non-market disqualified Revenue Sharing Payee Club shall receive a selection immediately following the first round of the draft if the player signs a contract with a total guarantee of $50 million or more. •A CBT Payor Club shall receive a draft selection immediately following the fourth round of the next Rule 4 Draft. •All other Former Clubs shall receive a selection immediately following the Competitive Balance Round B of the next Rule 4 Draft (which follows the second round).
  2. Yeah, lot's of Cub chatter in Cameron's chat today.
  3. I agree with you, those prices seem way too low. Heck, Mike Leake got a 5/80 deal last offseason... I think that's the starting point for Cobb & Lynn. I'll play Devils Advocate AGAINST myself and you now lol. Leake had pitched 3 straight seasons of at least 192 innings, and 4 years of having made at least 30 starts as well. Chatwood has never thrown more than 158 innings in the majors and has an injury history as a pro. Cobb has never thrown 180 innings and also has the injury history. These things account for something obviously. Just no idea as to how much. Brandon McCarthy may be a good test case for Cobb, at least the MLBTR guy brought him up.....McCarthy had never pitched lots of innings either and had quite an injury history(but I don't remember arm-related for him?). The year he hit FA though, he had just thrown a 200 inning season and got 4/48. So, maybe 4/48 is on the money or even slightly high on Cobb? At any rate, I'd do it and not think twice. Which may not speak well for my thought process. Its just the class is sooooooo damn weak. Well, that's the thing, supply and demand... the class is so weak, I agree... once you get past Darvish and Arrieta, the next tier of guys are going to get paid too. Everyone's looking for starting pitching... I've already braced myself for the Yankees getting Otani, if he decides to come over.

  5. Lester money, with a chance at needing another year on the deal Yep, Dave Cameron in his Fangraphs chat earlier this week estimated 7/175, I believe Lester was 6/155
  6. Love to get the guy, but unlike us, NYY is not in the international penalty box at the moment, no? Especially considering their prior history with Japanese imports, I'll be shocked if NYY doesn't wind up with Otani ...
  7. Looks like the Cubs started the run on relievers.... Addison Reed to BOS is close to being final, and Indians are pushing for Britton ...
  8. ... and Longenhagen of Fangraphs chimes in on Cub prospects in today's chat ..
  9. Rosenthal also just tweeted backing up Morosi that Cubs indeed are pursuing Gray In addition to possibly Happ or Almora, I wonder if Beane believes in Montgomery as a starter and would want him as return piece?
  10. ... AND ... that they have no interest in Verlander, especially with the $70MM still owed.
  11. This is Jacob deGrom we're talking about, right? Uh yeah. Is he illegal to bring up or something in your opinion? Evidently he is, I brought his name up Earlier in the thread & got stones thrown at me for bringing his name into the conversation, lol
  12. Excerpt below from Fangraphs Eric Longenhagen on Albertos last night....
  13. I'm guessing both. Use the Philly future pick with some assets to try to get George or Butler. I wasn't crazy about Fultz (though Jackson doesn't do a lot for me either) so unless there's crazy restrictions on the future pick I'm okayish with this I'm missing something here. What future PHL pick are you referring to? PHL holds all their future #1 draft choices. Are you referring to the LAL 2018 pick that PHL had previously controlled? PHL still keeps that LAL pick if it doesn't fall anywhere between #2 - #5 next year. If PHL keeps the LAL pick then BOS then gets the SAC 2019 unprotected 1st that PHL also controls. If they can stay on the floor & out of the trainers room, Embid, Simmons, Fultz & Saric looking like a nice young PHL core
  14. [tweet] [/tweet] Raisin, How about another Oregon State SP? Law in his final mock now has on Drew Rasmussen.
  15. Cubs content from Keith Law's chat earlier today... sans comments on Addison Russell situation Bret: How much does Nick Allen’s height concern you? It may be recency bias, but my instinct is that worrying about a player’s height tends to be a bit overblown? Keith Law: It doesn’t. Dude can hit and can play short. He’s fine Sam: Still thinking Nick Allen for the Cubs? Would they save any money for high-ceiling options at #30? Keith Law: I didn’t have them with Allen in my last mock. I have heard they would like to pair up those picks (27 and 29), go over slot with one and under with the other, to try to nab a top 15 talent who fell due to bonus demands/college commitment Ed: Are the Cubs still on Luis Gonzalez? Seems like a lot of risk – HS guy playing in altitude with limited upside. Any chance they look at pitching or do they continue to do what they’ve been good at – picking bats? Thanks! Keith Law: Luis Gonzalez is at UNM. You’re (possibly) confusing him with Jacob Gonzalez, whose father Luis played for the Dbacks, who is an Arizona HS kid. Ed: Is Pearson’s stock getting too high for him to fall to the Cubs? Keith Law: I have heard Nate Pearson has a deal in the 21-26 range.
  16. Who specifically are you talking about? Obviously for some players, an uptick in velocity is fleeting but it does happen to many HS kids who do maintain the velocity. It's a natural aspect of a teenager growing and maturing. The other concern is players who are a bit older who have an uptick in velocity and then blow out their arm almost immediately (Rob Whitenack comes to mind). Perhaps he was referring to Hayden Simpson, 1st guy that jumped to mind when I read his quote.
  17. Thanks UK ! Based on the profile, I'm not surprised in the least he's someone our front office would have interest.
  18. Law has his latest 2.0 Mock up at ESPN, again only going thru pick 27. In his 1st mock he had us on Allen, now a new name appears, and I mean a new name. I haven't seen this guy listed in other mocks, Fangraphs doesn't have him in their top 50 sortable board, BA has him listed at 87 overall on their recent top 200 update. Interesting... 27. Chicago Cubs Luis Gonzalez, CF New Mexico He’s no relation to the former Astro and Diamondback (whose son, Jacob, is a possible third- or fourth-round pick out of Chaparral High School this year). Gonzalez has put up silly numbers at the high altitude of Albuquerque, including a .500 OBP with 58 walks and 32 strikeouts.
  19. Ok, I'll throw a new name out there that hasn't been mentioned yet in the thread. The New York Mets are a dumpster fire right now. Their direction for ROS is a bit murky, but I wonder if Alderson will sell at the trade deadline. If so, I'd inquire about what it would take to get ... Jacob deGrom. He'd be quite expensive due to the remaining team control, but I'd at least inquire about his availability.
  20. Tampa needs a RB and this is a good spot for McCaffrey
  21. In no particular order, the Eagles have needs at DE, WR, RB and CB I believe they 'd prefer one of the DE's to drop to them at such as Thomas or Barnett but alas they are both gone. There are lots of CB's still on the board but with the draft having a lot of CB depth, I think the Eagles will wait until 2nd and 3rd round to address CB. Eagles need to start putting some offensive weapons around Wentz since they currently don't have many. Cook and McCaffrey would make some sense at #14 as would a young WR to grow with Wentz since recently signed Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffrey are essentially on one year deals... Eagles select WR Mike Williams, Clemson
  22. Just an FYI since it's now a few picks away, but PHL and IND should be flipped. PHL picking 14th and IND 15th Howard would represent nice value at 10 for BUF. Goony, you are correct they did just recently re-up with their QB (Tyrod Taylor), so not sure they look QB at #10 overall. Corey Davis could also make sense at #10. McShay's latest mock has him going here.
  23. Tedward will take Philadelphia
