  1. Keith Law has him as 3rd best prospect in game before the season....
  2. FWIW, Callis answering his 2nd tweet within last couple of days this evening on Cease, expressing confidence he will sign.
  3. @jimcallisMLB: More on @Cubs 5th-rder Justin Steele's $1 mil bonus. Pick 139 value = $359,900. Miss. HS LHP w/88-92 FB, touches 95, improving CB. @MLBDraft
  4. Let's go Rangers !!!
  5. I suppose he deserves some credit for Rizzo & Castro bouncing back. Also like how he's bringing the young pen along. I approve
  6. Pretty strong comments from Law on Aiken...
  7. Thanks Raisin, appreciate the info !
  8. Garza coming up small thus far tonight. 4 runs & 7 hits thru 3. TEX can't be too pleased.
  9. No. So what is left on it easily covers the expected penalty payments for international signees? That's one way of looking at it, sure. If the Soriano deal to the Yanks goes down, that should free up even more 2013 cash, since the speculation is Yanks would take more of this years $ owed, & Cubs would pick up most if not all of Soriano's 2014 contract to help Yanks avoid luxury tax penalties next season
  10. My first thought is to put Edwards at No. 6. Olt not in top 10. Olt not in the top 10? You are way off base. He was a top 25 prospect in the game according to all 4 top BA guys prior to the season. Great buy low by Theo & Jed due to medical issues affecting his performance earlier this season. He'll be in our top 10.
  11. Morosi & Rosenthal's latest saying talks continue with multiple teams including the Rangers & A's
  12. I'm hearing Perez/Profar/Feliz for Garza/Castro/Rizzo. More info coming soon. Sweeney extension in the works, will man first base. LOL !
  13. Nice to get a response. Nothing earth shattering, but Klaw just tweeted that he could be a "guy" and that it's a nice return for a bench bat.
  14. $4.8MM according to Jim Callis. @ $825M+ under slot. He just tweeted that he doesn't think it'll affect Bryant. We'll see.
  15. I hope Vizcaino doesn't turn out to be the second coming of Angel Guzman....guy who had a great arm but just couldn't stay healthy.
  16. Not good. Out for the year due to additional arm surgery, per Sullivan
  17. Which ones? There's no way trading Rizzo, Baez, Vizcaino and Samardzija for one player makes sense. Agreed. Not trying to sabotage the thread, but if we're going to trade the farm, wouldn't it make a bit more sense to trade for David Price (assuming Tampa makes him available after this season)? I think I'd rather have arguably the best pitcher in the game than Stanton.
  18. Morosi on MLB network just said Cubs out in front but not done deal. Still talking with Tigers & Rangers might enter the picture...drat
  19. I do not understand fans who try to pretend they can't spend on the now and rebuild the system at the same time. Maybe because it's better to completely suck. You get the advantage of getting a top draft choice which gives you a better chance of landing an impact talent. There is also an added benefit to sucking that gives you a higher international draft $ pool with which to work with which can also lead to signing more impact players. What spending on the now do you want? Do you see any impact 27-29 yr old free agents hitting their prime that are available to sign, if so, I'm all for it...
  20. Kyle Hendricks wasn't ranked in the Rangers top 30 this season according to Baseball America, but there is this from the Prospect Handbook...
  21. Nothing really new, but this from a NYY Beat reporter (George King) in this morning's NY Post...
  22. According to BA, slot for #43 is $1,196,000 & #57 is $911,700
  23. The latest on the Yanks pursuit from George King of the NY Post....
  24. They redid the Top 10 recently... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2012/2612879.html OK, so I'm confused. With the current top 10 being what it is, and Goldstein saying Concepcion would land at 6 with a ceiling as a fifth starter, what is Maples projected at? They have to be around the same age, and if GC is now higher on the list, wouldn't that suggest a higher ceiling? Or are they saying Maples might have the higher ceiling, but GC is currently more polished but with a lower ceiling? Just seems kind of odd given the (relative) buildup of Maples prior to the draft. I believe part of the confusion may be related to the list above being from Baseball America......Goldstein writes for Baseball Prospectus (he had Maples at #4 overall on his list).
