  1. why is it a good decision by default Where did I say it was a good decision by default?
  2. There are some spectacularly bad takes on this decision out there. Apparently 2 quarters of preseason football is the difference between a good and bad season. When they lose to the Packers week 1 (as they were going to anyway) all these dopes will be patting themselves on the back too.
  3. I can't get over what an unnecessary dick he was here. I love how seriously some sports writers take themselves.
  4. This whole thing was weird to me.
  5. Not a big fan of his face
  6. I once scoffed at this sentiment, but I'm right there with you. I'm excited for Sunday funday drinking/grilling and having friends over, because that is the best part of the fall. But the football itself is almost inconsequential. I long ago stopped paying attention to any primetime game not involving the Bears. now try living in college football country, and mixing in the evil and hypocrisy of the NCAA to the mix! i can't wait to drink and eat and have fun but the first time some 18 year old kid with no future gets knocked unconscious im going to realize what a dumbass I am for watching it It's hard for me to get past the bolded when watching college football. Its hard to watch when you know these kids aren't getting paid but are probably turning their brains into sand.
  7. Yeah, this is why I was concerned that they let Sitton walk and the reason that I'm glad they addressed the interior line early in the draft. I'm pretty hyped about how the offseason has gone, but I've been hyped before and been disappointed. My general stance on the draft is that it's a crap shoot and anyone trying to evaluate it now is wasting their time. I have to stick with that take even thought I loved this particular draft.
  8. They expect him to be insanely good if they picked him at #8. I'm also guessing that Fangio understands the value of inside linebackers in his defense. The Fangio aspect is definitely a big positive, if anybody can make the most of Smith it's Vic. With WR/OL/DB/EDGE all a need right here, I get the trade down motivation but I think I'd rather they get one of the guys at the top of this round. Totally agree re: 2nd round. I wonder if they are still trying to trade up. I read that Pace confirmed they were trying to get back up into the first.
  9. Me too - there are a lot of players available that I was not expecting.
  10. Every player picked in the top 10 needs to be ridiculously good to justify the pick. No, different positions have different impacts on the game. A non pass rushing LB doesn't have that great of an impact, outside the elitiest. You can be a quality player at a number of positions and impact the game quite a bit, while at others you need the be insanely good to have a real impact. The most extreme are FBs, but centers, TE, and LB can also fit here. They expect him to be insanely good if they picked him at #8. I'm also guessing that Fangio understands the value of inside linebackers in his defense.
  11. Like I said, he has to be ridiculously good to justify the pick. Didn't say he can't be, but it's an uphill battle for a LB, especially a guy that isn't a freak. Every player picked in the top 10 needs to be ridiculously good to justify the pick.
  12. It really does seem like the Bears are in a good spot to get an impact player.
  13. Some very weird dudes in that forum. Extremely bizarre. Really great. Just a regular guy here - totally normal!
  14. in case you have trouble finding it because the address moved, its http://www.chicagofanatics.com Some very weird dudes in that forum.
  15. Haven't Mac and Parkins been doing a show on Sundays? I thought I heard them in the car a couple of times. If so, sounds like that may have been a dry run for a weekday show.
  16. Man, I like Goff. This is lame.
  17. I didn't realize Robinson was only 24.
  18. Someone call the FBI, someone got their lunch paid for.
  19. The head coach hire is a make or break decision, but this isn't quite a make or break year. With a 2-year extension both Pace and this new coach will have until 2019 to really show it on the field. He could go 7-9 this year and not risk losing his job. He could probably go 5-11 again and stay at the helm. I meant it more as a make or break year in terms of how I thought about him (which is super important to him and everyone else, I am sure).
  20. I'm somewhat confident in his ability to make this team a quality contender, but aware of his shortcomings to date. This is kinda where I am, maybe slightly more confident. I reserve the right to judge after this offseason which I'm viewing kinda sorta as the Cubs 2014-15 offseason (at least as much as you can apply baseball to this) I would agree with this. I am cautiously optimistic but this is a make or break year for him. I think his drafting has been good but at the same time I wonder if I am just so defeated that even marginally competent drafting seems good to me. I actually like his approach in FA. He seems to take fliers on guys who have some upside with minimal long term commitments. I mean, the best player on the team is a Pace FA acquisition. Maybe it's meatbally, but I don't think keeping a revolving door of GM's every 2-3 years is going to put the Bears in a good place. I like most of the names thrown around for Head Coach here. I am pretty intrigued by McDaniels - which I never thought I would be saying.
  21. Conditional 7th round pick. Seems like a reasonable flier to take. He also has some size.
