  1. Lovie waiting to make the move was longer than I would have liked, but it really didn't cost us any games. The Steelers game was lost because we couldn't tackle, not because of Orton. I initially supported Orton, through the Panthers game, but it became very clear that he was regressing at a pretty rapid rate. IF he has continued to put up 75ish QB ratings, I would have been fine sticking with him. Completing less than 50% of your passes in 3 consecutive starts is intolerable. As little as we throw, we must complete those throws to be effective. Grossman clearly gives this team a better chance to go to the superbowl. Last week I was concerned by the D's health, but this week, Green, among others, really stepped up. I'd like to comment that McGowan is looking like an excellent pickup. If there is one thing about Angelo, it's that he has an incredible ability to find defensive starters from small schools and later (or in McGowan's case) not even in the draft. To have a defensive performance like that with 3 starters out was tremendous. Leon Joe also played well. I remember an interview where JA said his biggest regret was cutting Joe. For those who don't know, Joe is an athletic freak who didn't really know how to play football. Judging from his play last night, it looks like he's getting the hang of it. Championship teams in football have to have good depth. It seems like the Bears are starting to stockpile it at almost every position.
  2. Jenkins caught the ball, established possession of the ball, and was moving forward as he was about to get blasted at the 10-yd line. At that point, he can only lose the ball as a fumble. He hit the ground and the ball popped up to Vasher. Of course, the ground can't cause a fumble, so the play should have been dead with the Falcons having the ball 1st and goal. Who knows what happens from there. The way things were going, it's unlikely that they come up with 2 TD's. Nope. He never had full control of the ball. If you watch, you can clearly see the ball is not in control as he is going down. Plus, like in baseball, the player usually has to have control of the ball for a couple of seconds in order to have it considered a catch. He never did. They call this making a "football move." Getting completely erased isn't a football move. The call was the right one. Whether or not the rule is a good one is another discussion.
  3. That's for sure. He was a little more hesitant to make this change, but when push came to shove, he made it. I think he gave Orton every chance to keep the job. I think Lovie played this about as good as one could have.
  4. Lovie is the Anti-Dusty and I love it.
  5. UPDATE!!!!! According to Chicagobears.com Brown has been upgraded to Questionable. At least that means he's probably not out for the year. Hopefully, i's him and McGowan this weekend.
  6. FWIW I heard about Brown on the offish board. About ten people reported hearing about it on cold pizza. EDIT: I guess ESPN1000 just said that Brown is still doubtful and Mcgowan and either TJ or MG are going to start. So basically I have no idea what's going on.
  7. ESPN is reporting Mike Brown will play this week vs. the Falcons.
  8. The Badgers are quietly 9-1. Bo Ryan continues to show he is one of the better coaches in the Big Ten.
  9. I walk past Wrigley just about twice a day and the change is pretty drastic. It's going to be much tougher to hit one on to Waveland or Sheffield now. I'm pretty sure the Miller Lite sign says "Wait til next beer."
  10. Well, what can be done at this point? The dude is inaccurate at this stage in his career and it doesn't look like Lovie is going to change. Those throws were at least fairly accurate and down the field. I'm looking for the silver lining even if it is that Orton has taken the trainign wheels off. Perhaps those completions will give him confidence that he can make them in the future. I don't know. I guess, at least I felt positive that he made SOME big passing plays.
  11. I think the Bears win this one pretty handily. Teams with athletic linebackers typically contain Vick. He hasn't caused us much trouble historically. I also think, with a couple of good shots, Vick is probably going to pack it in. He is a fumble machine so I think we will get a few turnovers from him. The Defense is going to be angry in this game and looking for blood. Hopefully McGowan starts as he was one of the few bright spots last week. Brown didn't comment, but it's said he doesn't appear to be limping. Chris Harris looks unlikely to go this week. While Kyle wasn't great or even good last week, it did seem like he stepped up his game, to the limited extent he could. Hopefully, a good game from him this week. While the 2 long passes in that quick drive were largely because of great plays by the wide receivers, they were TONS more accurate that what we are used to seeing from Kyle. I'm resigned to the fact that he'll be starting for the rest of the season, so I was pleased to see he answered the bell in some small way.
  12. Well, now we know why Lovie doesn't like Mike Green. Jesus, does Green even have arms? Every tackle he lowers the shoulder and bounces off. What a worthless turd. Snow is bad for our defense. Obviously, having a light and speedy defense, we are going to get pushed around in bad footing conditions. Embarrassing tackling though. Orton was still under 50% and most of his yards came in garbage time. We have only converted 3 third downs in 3 weeks. He was a little better this week though. Still, my position on the Rex/Orton situation remains unchanged. All in all, losing to the Steelers away, isn't the biggest deal in the world. My concern is that the Vikings also won and are now a game back. I still think we can beat the Vikings, but I worried that we caught them: Our upswing, their downswing last time and the opposite might be the case the next time we meet. Hopefully, we'll see this as a wake-up game.
  13. That's the best thing I have ever heard. It makes me confused. On one hand, folding ins't a good thing. On the other hand, A soft blanket sounds really nice. I'm torn!!!
  14. Very Bad News: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=12877 Brown is questionable for Sunday. We are looking a Johnson-Green secondary straight in the face. The face looks like Kirk Heinrich.
  15. I can almost hear Marv Albert saying this thread's title.

  17. I hope we target outfielders who are good at baseball.
  18. I'm convinced that unless Orton has some ridiculous game (100+) QB rating, that he's likely lost his job. Jay Mariotti actually did a good job pointing this out today. I am very worried about this one, primarily because the Steelers are backed into a corner at home. I think they'll jump to a 10 point lead and just kind of hold it. I think we may lose this one, but that's not always a bad thing. We need to get sharper on offense, and maybe this will be a wake up call. I hope I'm wrong though! Go Bears!
  19. Grow up. Let's please debate his point not hurl names. Thanks. Did he call him a "Grow up?" If not, I'm not seeing any names hurled. Furcal was too expensive.
  20. FYI: The Score is reporting that Rex has been moved up the depth chart to #2, is reportedly now 100%, and is taking 25% of the snaps with the first team offense.
  21. Holy crap, I had forgotten how completely terrible Corey was last year. I was just looking at the stats... .215/.254/.348!!!! Oh my god!!!!!!! Carry on.
  22. I was just looking and: Orton's QB rating is closer to Craig Krenzel's QB rating is than it is to Grossman's. Grossman: 71.1 Orton: 60.2 Krenzel: 52.5
