  1. I agree that Sammy's retirement is being overly criticized in the media. It seems to be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of thing. My true feelings are that once the smoke clears, Sammy's legacy won't be a particularly a good one. I feel, right or wrong, he'll be looked at as the textbook steroid era player. A few mind boggling years followed by falling off the face of the earth. The articles being written about him right now, certainly lead me to believe this will be the case.
  2. I was about to post this. Wow, Z looks like he's in pretty good shape.
  3. Has anyone else heard the rumors that the Bears are interested in Kellen Winslow, Jr.? I don't think they are very substantial(the rumors) but for the sake of this discussion, would you give up a 2nd for him? Do you think it's possible to get him for a 3rd considering the Vikings are rumored to be asking for a 2nd for C-Pepp?
  4. I would absolutely be interested in Ty Law if he's available for a reasonable price. He wasn't great at the start of the season but as the season went on he played better and better. That Jets secondary was good and he was one of the reasons why. I think he'd be a great get if we could get him. Law has never been at a reasonable price. Buzz kill...
  5. From a numbers perspective, there's Je'kel Foster, then there's planet earth. S. Brown and Davis have decent cases. Vukusic scores a bunch and is decently efficient, Killingsworth is right there but he can't make a free throw. I'm surprised how inefficient all the Iowa players are. Im sorry, but I highly doubt the people who vote for player of the year for the conference look at the efficiency numbers you are always talking about. After being at the Wisconsin/OSU game last night, I would cast my vote for Terrence Dials, he was unstoppable and has put up great numbers all year. Dials was great last night.

  7. Who is the player of the year, to this point, in the Big Ten? We were talking about it last night and there are a lot of justifiable choices.
  8. It's probably just the angle, but she looks slightly quigley eyed.
  9. It's looking more and more like Randel El is ours to lose. From ESPN:
  10. Ah, the cork incident. Let me ask you a question. Do you have a problem with Gaylord Perry being in the HOF? Because Perry was busted (on more than one occasion, IIRC) for throwing a spitball. It was rumored he threw it much of, if not all of, his career. Yet nobody ever seems to remember that. He got in no problem, as I recall. This isn't excusing what Sammy did, however. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Sammy shouldn't get in ever, I am just saying that I think he should have to wait a year because of that incident.
  11. How can you be more valuable than putting up productive numbers? What else can be done? Should McGwire have sold programs at the front door or something? McGwire didn't disserve to win it because he didn't put up the 1800OPS required to make his team a playoff team? Fielding aside, how can a player put up better numbers yet be less valuable to his team? It makes no sense.
  12. I have trouble justifying putting a cheater in on the first ballot.
  13. Was Bode Miller wearing a Barilla Pasta hat lat night? What? The Men's Short track speedskating is the lamest sport on Earth. Announcer 1: For these first 6 laps everyone tries to conserve energy Announcer 2: Ono is doing great! Look at his face! He doesn't appear to be trying at all. Announcer 1: This will surely bode well for him later when he will also not attempt to skate fast until the very end.
  14. What the hell is going on? The Big Ten makes no sense. They should just flip a coin at the start of every game to determine the winner.
  15. Jerry Angelo had 2 Q&A sessions on Chicagobears.com. Check them out. Besides all the vague stuff, he does say: 1)Rex will be the starter going into Training Camp 2)He wont even take a "needs" list into the draft. He will take BPA 3) Liked how Lewis (TE) Cutler (QB) Moss (WR) played in the Senior Bowl. 4)Looks like he has some interest in Moss 5)Says this crop of LBers is the deepest he's seen 5)Looks like we will be getting a saftey on Day 2. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=14098 http://www.chicagobears.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=14118
  16. Nice sarcasm but I DO think you know what I am talking about. And sorry, but I don't believe Cuban would do anything to make this team better. Throwing money at the problem doesn't always fix it. Like I said, be careful of what you wish for. What is this based on? Nothing? All evidence points to him being a successful franchise owner.
  17. Wow. What a lunatic. Between this and his team topping nearly every set of NBA power rankings, I wouldn't want this bum here.
  18. Looks like English used the Bears to get enough leverage to be offered the Michigan D-Coord job. Shady.
  19. At least you didn't lose to fricken Purdue.
  20. a division title in '03, it aint much but its more than the mavs have managed How? Cuban took the Devil Rays and turned them into the Red Sox in about a year. The Steve Nash decision looks bad now, but when his contract ends lets see how bad it is for Phoenix. We could do much, much worse than having Mark Cuban own the Cubs. oh boy they made the play offs 4 years straight...not a big deal in a sport where half the teams make the playoffs, all cuban has managed to do is turn a perrenial loser into a "might go somewhere"...you can say the same thing about MacPhail/Hendry and the cubs...at least i dont have to watch the owner of the cubs screaming at the umps from the stands and generally making an arse of himself You obviously just hate Mark Cuban, for whatever reason. Why hold him to such an unreasonable standard? You are saying he's a bad owner because he hasn't won a world championship in the 6 years he has owned the team? Forget that he has turned them completely around he hasn't won a championship in 6 years! The Mavs are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the NBA this year and have beaten all the big contenders.
  21. Yeah, I hope Cuban wouldn't bring his antics involving taking a perennial doormat and turning them into a perennial power. i for one could do with out him jumping up and down behind the dugout yelling at the umps or worse, at the players, making stupid comments in the press and generally embarassing the rest of us fans...as much as i would like to see a winner on the northside, i wouldnt trade my dignity and class to make it happen. Cuban has curbed his behavior recently and in my mind is justified in calling out the officiating in the NBA on occasion. When has he yelled at players? I'll take a guy who would "embarrass" the fan by turning them into a contender. Frankly, I'm more embarrsed by the current lineup than anything Cuban could do. bad calls are part of the game, be it the NBA or MLB, an owner has no business calling out an official during a game and throwing temper tantrums on the sidelines, i dont care how bad a call is, coaches and managers are hired to handle these situations. i havent watched any mavs game this year, so i cant speak to cuban dialing it down, but i wouldnt want to see an owner of the cubs pull the crap ive seen him pull(living in texas for 5 years i got to see all his antics on the SW sports report...he was regularly featured for one dumb thing or another) I guess you care more about that stuff than I do. I'm more interested in the bottom line. The bottom line is Cuban's teams win because he works hard to make them win. That's enough for me.

  24. so? does that mean he shouldn't be able to recruit anyone good ever? i mean, how is illinois going to improve if they don't get the recruits? i could ask you why weber didn't get scheyer, wright, rush, or collins after sending a team to the championship game, in which they narrowly lost--not to mention turning deron williams into a top 3 draft pick and sending luther head to the rockets in the first round as well. i think you just hate the illini for whatever reason. maybe it's their recent dominance over MSU, maybe it's their perrenial dominance over mizzou, i don't know. I disagree that he must hate the Illini. I was asking myself the same questions. Zook must be a great recruiter to get anyone of note to come to Illinois. At this point, they are one of the worst programs the Big Ten and nationally speaking are an afterthought. Zook is doing a fantastic recruiting job and I wonder what he is saying to these guys to keep them from going to competitive schools with better tradition.
  25. That is weird, especially since he was replaced by a long snapper. The article says that Clark was mistakenly put on the team as a long snapper. I can honestly say Clark sucks. I would be one happy person if he was cut. He is overpaid for what he does if you ask me. I completley disagree on this sentiment. He does not suck. He's no stud, but the Bears offensive game plan completely ignores TEs, and the QBs have been awful the past couple of years. Most TE struggles are due to team struggles on the Bears. He's bad. He gets little separation in passing routes, drops catchable balls, and is only an average blocker. I think one of the main reasons we don't untilize TE's is because we lack talent in that position. I guess it's a "what came first the chicken or the egg" type thing. Edit: However, I'm now with you in that I no longer think we should go TE in the first. We should be able to get a talented one in the second as this is a good TE draft. I think we should look at BPA amongst a few positions with our first.
