  1. What he said. Name the last time Hendry traded the best prospect in the organization and got fleeced. (no, the Dontrelle trade does not qualify) who did the karchner for garland trade? i cant remember if it was hendry or MacPhail. That was Ed Lynch. wow i am getting old. i didnt realize it was that long ago. thanks.

  3. Or maybe they just think they are the same morans that gave Neifi Perez $5 million. Just say no to Pierre. I'd rather have Patterson. If Bradley can be had for nothing, I don't know why Hendry is still thinking about Pierre. Exactly. Bradley is a better (leadoff) hitter than Pierre, he'll be cheaper money-wise and player-wise, we'll have him under contract longer, he plays better defense, he's younger, and he's not coming off of a terrible year. He's also coming off an injury plagued year. I don't blame Hendry for not pursuing an injury risk. I think it is lame not to pursue someone b/c of "attitude problems." Bradley probably isn't the best fit for this team, considering how many injury prone guys are already here under contract for 2006. there is a difference between attitude problems and violent anti-social behavior. bradley's history exhibits the latter.
  4. cf pierre ss furcal 1b lee 3b aram rf tracy/wilkerson/floyd (in order of preference) lf murton c barrett 2b cedeno/perez
  5. not if he can get pierre from the fish for cp as has been rumored. If I'm signing Furcal, as has been rumored, I'd rather have Bradley than Pierre. Also, trading for Bradley doesn't preclude you from trading for Pierre and moving Bradley to right. thats fine but as has been stated above, there is virtually no chance of the cubs getting a guy with bradley's issues. i would rather see pierre in cf than bradley. on paper bradley has better #'s but in reality he's a bomb waiting to go off. maybe he and urbina can be pen pals from their respective jail cells. Bradley is a better fielder than Pierre. He has more power than Pierre. He likely will get on base better than Pierre. He's put up a 900+ OPS once in his lifetime, a number Pierre could only dream about. Does he have some issues, surely. Because of those issues, his cost in salary and players, is also less than Pierre. I agree that I doubt the Cubs look at him. Of course, that shows how inept they've been at creatively making this team better. After 2004, they wanted to get rid of the bad apples. Well, they did and our team was worse for it. I agree the Cubs won't make a run for Bradley, but they should. Once again, not pursuing him is another bad decision on the part of the Cubs. i guess we disagree. i dont want a psycho thug like bradley on the cubs no matter what his #'s might be. if the starting pitching can stay healthy the difference between pierre & bradley won't matter much anyway imo (again assuming that game boy can stay out of jail). it says alot if the dodgers are willing to virtually give a potential .900 ops guy away.

  8. Why is this good news? Cedeno might hit like Neifi and Furcal will be hard pressed to outproduce what Walker did last year. Since Neifi had a good year at short, on a net basis the Cubs will be no better off. If you sign Furcal, leave Walker at second, Neifi on the bench and Cedeno at Iowa. If I'm not mistaken, Furcal hit 15 homers last season and had an OBP as good or better than Walker. IMO it won't be all that difficult for Furcal to surpass Todd's rate of production from 04-05. Edit - It should be noted that I want a Furcal/Walker middle infield for next year. I just don't see it happening anymore. :( You have to adjust Walker's production for his injury. Furcal's rates aren't any better. Plus Furcal had a large advantage in his home park. I maintain that you are no better off and I think you agree with me. But you seem to be adjusting to reality better than I am. when you factor in defense & speed, furcal is much more productive than walker. he's also going to get paid 4 times as much. i dont think furcal is going to get 10 mil a year. the opening offer from Chicago is going to be 4 years, averaging 9 million a year. until it happens everything is just a rumor or a guess.

  11. i would much rather have hill & williams for several years than zito for 1.
  12. Heck yes, he could: Batting #5 .339/.431/.625/1.056 Batting #6 .382/.439/.674/1.113 Granted, this was 56 and 89 ABs respectively, but those numbers look pretty darn good to me. i would still like to see a lefty batting 5th, hopefully whoever they get to play right. tracy or wilkerson would be nice or perhaps floyd (although i recall someone here saying that the cubs would never play floyd in rf) if he has the defense & arm to do so.
  13. the leadoff hitter only leads off for sure in the 1st inning. after that, who cares who hits 1st between pierre & furcal as long as both of them hit ahead of lee & aram?
  14. no great loss. i would rather have crisp (if he's available) or pierre.
  15. i guess murton & barrett won't account for anything offensively? we still dont know about cf or rf either. with pierre or crisp in cf & tracy or giles in rf i would think the offense would be significantly upgraded.
  16. to think that i used to come to this board for intelligent insights. i will also be quite disapointed if nefi is anything but a backup but 30 pages on the signing of nefi as if it signals the end of the 2006 & 2007 seasons? lighten up already.
  17. Bruce, any news on right field? what do the cubs think of chad tracy from the dbacks? at 25, i would rather have him than giles anyway (assuming they dont want the world in prospects for him). thanks in advance.
  18. What are your thoughts on Pinto? Is this the same JvB we saw in Chicago? yes., he's the guy that baker let rot on the bench for 2 weeks between apperances and then quickly pulled him as he walked everyone. it's the same thing he did to wellemeyer in 2004. if he gets regular work, he can be very good out of the pen to go along with wuretz & williamson imo. i assume novoa will be traded btw. who knows, if williamson tanks he might even set up dempster.
  19. might as well have burnitz back instead of mench. at least jerome hits left handed. i would consider mench a downgrade in rf and would much rather see tracy or wilkerson (or even floyd for that matter).
  20. how many ab's did jeff bagwell have in the minors to prove he couldn't hit for power? Well, I guess you could bring up the one exception when there are hundreds of examples otherwise. Koronka had the best season of his career that was on par with one of Mitre's worst, and he's a year older than Mitre. I'd be really interested to see what Koronka's GB/FB ratio is. Because if he doesn't get ground balls, then there's not much hope for sustained success, since he doesn't K a lot of guys, and has pedestrian stuff. EDIT: Bagwell only had 731 AB's total in the minors, that's not much at all for an entire minor league career. actually he is just the first one off the top of my head. guys like moyer & tewksberry were horrible in the majors until they were in their late 20's. ryan sandberg didnt have a spectacular minor leauge career either but he did pretty well in his major leauge career. i bet albert puljos didnt have any where near his major leauge #'s in his minor leauge career. how did randy johnson do in the minors? there are also alot of guys with great minor leauge #'s who never do anything in the bigs so it goes both ways.

  22. Wasn't it mentioned during one of his starts last season (in LA perhaps?) that his father couldn't make the trip because he was ill? I seem to remember something like that. Hopefully, it isn't anything serious but that might be why. that could be it. hopefully he'll have a good shot at making the bullpen next year to go along with ohman.
  23. koronka was removed from the solar sox's roster due to personal reasons per cubs.com. 0.00 era in 13 ip. any one know what happened in more detail?
