  1. doesnt guzman throw harder than vasquez? last year i seem to remember him topping out at 90-91. i hope he has a better change up than vasquez too.
  2. i would rather have lofton than cameron. he's a lefty and can lead off. cameron's #'s dont impress me at all.
  3. is it safe to assume guzman's stuff can be compared to seattle's felix hern? i know felix is alot younger at 19 than guzman but he also has a 95+ fb & a killer slider.
  4. Go, EPatt! I am really pulling for him to make good and be the Cubs 2nd baseman of the future. Ramirez, Cedeno, Patterson and Lee. I doubt it will happen, but they could be good. And maybe Koronka is on the Chronic? When pitchers relax good things can happen... i am very much hoping for the same thing along with murton & pie in the of. why do you doubt it can happen? murton & cedeno are ready to start in the majors next year imo and epat & pie might be ready by 2007. with prior and z already established & guzman, pinto, nolasco on the verge of breaking out, the cubs would have the vast majority of their starters being developed by their farm system.
  5. Williamson should be a lot more effective in 2006, and he is filthy when healthy. but there is some question as to if he can stay healthy given his herky jerky mechanics. i hope they just pick up a setup man like howry & stick with wuretz & jvb.
  6. im hoping for ohman, eyre, wuretz, jvb, howry & dempster myself.
  7. i would much rather see a future outfield of murton, pie & harvey. manny can hit but is a liability everywhere else. i see dh'ing as being in his near future. offense isnt everything. he probably had more production last year by himself that the whole white sox outfield but he is at home watching the sox getting ready to clinch. give me pitching & defense over an overwhelming offense any day.
  8. I'm not up on what the Reds have but I thought they had a gluten of OF's and needed pitching. Probably the case, but my point is would you be willing to deal Pie as part of a deal for Dunn that includes giving up at least one good pitching prospect, like a Nolasco. if hendry wont give up hill for dunn, there is no way he even considers giving up pie for dunn. pie isnt going anywhere except back to west tenn next year. Hendry may have spun off his chair when he said that. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pie dealt for someone like Soriano. This board will absolutely implode then. i would be very suprised if pie were traded and very very disgusted if he were traded for soriano. i think lofton will be the stop gap signed for this year with a club option for next year to give pie more time to develop in aa/aaa.

  10. he also hits righty. both cf & rf have got to be lefties (or switch hitters) imo with the righty dominated lineup of barrett, murton, lee, aram & hopefully cedeno.
  11. That's cool, again if that's the expectations then I think over paying for Giles makes a lot of sense. Just trying the help frame the debate. If the Cubs brought back Walker and Nomar, then went with Giles and Lofton, and then played them everyday like this: Lofton/Hairston Walker Giles Lee Aramis Nomar Murton Barrett This offense along with healthy pitching could beat St. Louis in the standings next year. It wasn't power that Chicago was lacking, but rather the ability to get runners on base. Every guy in that line up can put up .350+ OBP. The problem will be whether or not Cub management can see that, or will want to do that. i would prefer: lofton/jhjr murton lee giles or floyd aram walker cedeno barrett
  12. no more nomar! just say NO! cedeno for ss!
  13. mench is a righty and only hit .264 last year. i would much rather have floyd in right assuming giles is gone & abreu too expensive or not avialable.
  14. Because Wood is no longer reliable. If pitching is their strength, it needs to be the kind of overwhelming strength that can carry the team through low points with the offense. A rotation of Z/Prior/Wood/Maddux and then a Millwood/Zito/Lowe with Williams as the swing man is better than the current 5 man rotation with Rusch as the swing man. if wood isnt reliable heshould be in the pen & not starting. i dont care much for lowe (would rather have williams or rusch) and if the price of zito includes either pie or murton i dont see the cubs even considering making the trade. i thought millwood was a lock to sign with cleveland again. again, maddux is the one who worries me next year. it will all come down to prior & wood staying healthy as it has since 2003.
  15. i like hill alot but i find that very hard to believe.
  16. i dont see hendry trading pie for anyone. perhaps the phillies would take harvey, sing, pinto & hill.
  17. True, but the year before he won a World Series-I'll take my chances on him having a little better year this year than last- so did lenny harris but i dont want him on the cubs either.
  18. not to mention baker using them in the most productive ways (unlike he did last year). hopefully hendry will have some/more say in these matters in the future-especially in the usage of young players.
  19. blech. i would rather have the cubs sign lofton for a year or 2 and keep hill. not sure what will happen to cpat but i think his days in chicago are over.
  20. even if the cubs dont sign rusch, why is there a need to get another starter? prior, z & wood are all back with most likely (and the weakest link in the rotation imo) maddux leaving williams/hill/pinto/nolasco in the running for the #5 spot. hendry will be concentrating on rebuilding the of & finding a lead off man imo. assuming walker is back at second, murton in lf & cedeno gets the shot he deserves at ss, other than a few bench & pen guys i dont see any big signings or trades other than the of.
  21. The Cubs don't care much for objective analysis, so I wouldn't expect him to care what a "non-baseball" guy thinks. That rotation is a joke. im sure you said the same thing about the white sox's rotation before the season. i mean garland , el duke & contreras stink right. just look at their career stats. El Duque had the worst year of his MLB career this season. Is that what you're using to backup your faith in Rusch? Garland is a talented 26 year old starter, it made perfect sense that he'd be better this season than in previous years. Rusch turns 31 next month. He's been a crappy pitcher thoughout his career but had a career season in 2004 before reverting to form in 2005. I'm not one to hope for guys to have a career year even though they've shown no signs of being able to do that? With a top 5 payroll you better construct a better rotation than one that includes Williams and Rusch. take a look at moyer's career if you dont believe a lefty starter cant turn it around later in their career. williams is a talented 23 year old starter so it makes perfect sense that he will be better next season than he was last season. i know, maybe the cubs should trade mitre for peavy and korenka for johan santana.

  23. You don't see why? I guess we're not looking at the same player. Why are you arbitrarily removing bad games? Rusch was used almost the same way 2 years in a row. He went from reliever to start in 2004, why could he handle it then but not 2005. The only value he has is his supposed ability to be a swingman, which means going from the pen to the rotation, and vice versa. The fact is Rusch is not good. He pitched well at times, but got exposed and reverted to form. He's fine to have pitch in emergency situations. You never know what you'll get, but he's valuable, in that role, if he's cheep. If you purposefully go into a season with him as a starter, and you have a $100 million payroll, you are an imcompetent GM. again i disagree and according to what Bruce reported, so does hendry. i am much more worried about maddux next year than rusch. i would rather see a rotation of prior, z, wood, williams & rusch in 06. i'm sure hendry will be upset that you think he is incompetent if/when signs rusch to start btw.
  24. what worries me most about giles is his age & how many years he might want a contract for. 4 years is a long time for a 35+ year old guy imo. his power #'s fell off quite a bit while he was with the pirates too btw so his declining production cannot be blamed totally on pecto.
