  1. Seattle has made Ichiro untouchable. He isn't going anywhere. ditto with pie as far as the cubs are concerned.
  2. walker would be ok but i like mueller better. he's a switch hitter and has a better glove. he can also sub for aram at 3b.
  3. with guys like williams & hill already on the team (barring a trade of course) the cubs would be nuts to sign ponson to anything but a minor leauge contract. if wood is healthy & maddux comes back, i assume hill will go to aaa but what will they do with williams? he doesnt pitch very well out of the pen if i remember correctly and he pitched well enough to be in the rotation next year.
  4. i guess the big question then is how much do they want to get rid of abreu and what do they want in return. would hendry give up hill & a couple other pitching prospects like pinto & nolasco to get aberu? would it take more than that for the phillies to give him up? They have said they want a front line starter, which probably means we'd have to get a third team involved like Arizona with Vasquez or Oakland with Zito. not out of the relm of possibility then. hendry seems to have a thing for multi team trades. cant wait unti lthings start heating up tomorrow.

  6. havent the phillies already said that michaels is not available? i read it on here not too long ago. That was before they traded for Rowand. Right now, they're likely trying to trade Abreu and if they can't, Michaels will be traded. thats good news i guess. but why would they want rowand in cf instead of michaels? i hope the rumors that it wont take alot to get abreu are true and that the cubs take a run at him for rf.
  7. Huff: 2005 - .261/.321/.428 Career - .288/.342/.478 No thanks. 3 year totals: .290/.350/.494 Those are solid, if not spectacular numbers. I think he's one of our better options out there, certainly better than Mench. I wouldn't mind him or Wilkerson in RF with Bradley in CF. unless the cubs can get abreu (ie without giving up pie, guzman or pawleck (sp?)) i think it will come down to floyd or wilkerson in rf. as far as center & leadoff, i would say either pierre or gathright (who kind of reminds me of a young pierre) unless hendry takes a big chance and goes after bradley. i guess lofton is also a possibility for cf but i havent heard his name in connection with the cubs. i do like the idea of trading walker & signing mueller to play 2b though. i always liked him when he was on the cubs.

  9. Not at all, Kessinger WAS good, with the glove at least, for his day. Dude could really get after it in the hole, Kess was a master at the jump throw long before the Wizard of Oz hit the big leagues. And while overall he wasn't much of a hitter, most of the shortstops of his day weren't, either. And he DID have a couple of nice seasons with the bat. No, the biggest problem with Kessinger sounds awfully similar to what we complain about with Dusty--for lack of better alternatives, Leo would bat Don leadoff. How many RBI opportunities that cost Billy and Santo we'll never know. BTW, have you ever noticed Kessinger's career comparables list? Alfredo Griffin, Larry Bowa, Phil Rizzuto, Billy Jurges, Bill Russell, and...Ozzie Guillen his own self. That's a pretty respectable list of shortstops pre-1990s if you ask me. but nobody beats the wiz! nobody!
  10. did stone really say that? wow. he has gone down hill since he left. thats almost as insane as his idea to trade aram to the bo sox for manny and signing bill mueller to play 3b. maybe it was dusty pretending to be steve stone?
  11. he might and he might not. he gets paid the same (or close to the same anyway) either way. some guys tend to slack off when they sign a big contract like that. only time will tell if beltran is one of them.
  12. I have a bridge connecting two burroughs of New York City available for sale if you actually believe he is 25. Even if he's 28 or whatever, he's still baseball's best player. If he's 40 or something, that's a different story. i would have to give that to arod ahead of albert. when he's play ss his defense gives him the edge over pujols imo. I would take Pujols over ARod if I had to start my team. That isn't even counting in salary considerations. thats fine. doesnt mean he's the better player though. i guess it's a matter of opinion.
  13. is a .266 average with 16 hr's worth 11+ mil? last year anyway he was way over paid. even his defense was sloppy last year. i'm glad the cubs didnt tie up huge $ long term on him mysel.

  15. think about the big $ free agents the cubs have missed out signing the past few years. thome, hampton, beltran. how many people would want any of those contracts now? not to say furcal will be along the same lines but if they dont sign him it might be for the better. i really like cedeno at ss anyway.
  16. i dont appreciate the racial overtones of your post.
  17. i would say prior, wood & jobo getting injured had alot more to do with the 2005 failure than anything else.
  18. because alot of people are getting nervous because there have been no big moves yet. the winter meetings haven't even started yet! wait until the end of spring training before you start to panic!
  19. he might not have another season like 05 but who cares? if he hits .300 with 35 hr's and plays a gold glove 1b he will still be worth keeping. the buy low sell high mentality doesnt always work out in favor of the seller. besides, who plays 1b if lee is traded?
  20. gathright is pretty much worthless. yeah, i said it. worthless. pierre is a cut above him. btw, this article seems to contradict your knowledgeable assement of gathright's baseball ability. i wont bother to post the one about pierre that does the same because it has already been done in another thread. http://www.minorleaguenews.com/baseball/features/articles2004/fab50/062204.12.html That is a very big overranking of Gathright and I bet even that site won't have him anywhere near that high going into 2006. perhaps it is overboard but the guy obviously has some talent. he hasnt hit below .300 in the minors and steals a ton of bases. he has zero power but if he can get on base in the majors he can be a great leadoff guy. how is his defense btw?

  22. gathright is pretty much worthless. yeah, i said it. worthless. pierre is a cut above him. of course since your opinions do not effect the cubs & hendry's decisions, i guess we'll have to wait and see what they think about getting at least one of them.
