  1. What am I watching here? Whatever sport these two teams are playing is not the same one the Bears play.
  2. Also, it is quite an amazing coincidence that the "break even point" just so happens to fall right at the luxury tax line almost every year. What are the chances???
  3. Tom had the right idea when he was hiding from the fans and refused to show his face in public. Every time he speaks, he becomes even more unlikeable.
  4. Or 6 more fringe relievers.
  5. But guys... Sasaki's $6M salary (or whatever the amount is) will actually cost the Dodgers like $12M including the luxury tax, so the joke's on them. Ricketts wins again!
  6. It's kind of crazy that the NFL offseason progresses so quickly that teams may choose to forego their #1 choice of head coach because they would have to wait an extra week to talk to him. Meanwhile, we are several months deep into the MLB offseason, less than a month away from Spring Training, and half the available players still haven't signed.
  7. The guy is almost 89 years old, so one would think there might be SOME urgency. Not quite Virginia level urgency, but pretty damn close.
  8. Some interesting, if not incredibly depressing, comments from Jed's recent interview with Gordon Wittenmeyer. On non-tendering Schwarber in 2020: Jed's comments indicate that they liked Schwarber, had confidence in his abilities, and wanted to keep him, but had no choice because they couldn't afford his arbitration salary. If that doesn't tell you the Ricketts family only cares about money, I don't know what else does. That is just an awful way to operate a large market team. https://www.cubsinsider.com/2025/01/16/jed-hoyer-expresses-regret-over-kyle-schwarber-non-tender/
  9. I guess these are ok, but baby blue pinstripes are better.
  10. Also in the interview with Jed, he basically said there had been no conservation whatsoever regarding an extension, which either means: A) They are willing to wait and pay market value after the season if things work out well this year B) They have no intention of ever spending the amount of money it would take to sign Tucker long term Hmm... I wonder which one it could be?
  11. I missed the $3 million part of the rumor from the original post. Sorry, that should have been obvious. 🙂
  12. Wait a minute, Zyhir Hope is a Top 10 MLB prospect? That Michael Busch deal is going to end up looking bad, isn't it?
  13. Damn, this sucks. Despite my hatred of the Brewers, I loved listening to Bob Uecker. Definitely one of the all-time greats.
  14. In theory, any other player who the Cubs are willing to pay more than the competition. Will they ever meet the asking price of a star player? Right now it doesn't appear that way. But that has no bearing on the Sasaki decision. No matter how badly they wanted Sasaki, their hands were tied. It's annoying that he is signing elsewhere, but I can't fault Jed. I CAN fault Jed for everything else he has done and continues to do in building this boring, uninspired roster.
  15. They just prefer to use their money to lure several mediocre free agents instead.
  16. Please continue to call every team, one by one, informing them they are out. Even the ones who were never in the conversation to begin with. This should be how every free agent negotiation is handled. Player's agent: "Hello Jed, I am calling to let you know you are out of the running for the services of Player X." Jed: "But, we were never even interested in..." Player's agent: "I said, you are OUT. Goodbye."
  17. Especially when he isn't particularly good at it.
  18. I mean, at least they didn't hire a consulting firm (that we know of) to find the 19 candidates. That's a step in the right direction!
  19. Green Bay defender shoves a player to the ground after the play when he is clearly well out of bounds. Announcers: "That's a weak penalty call."
  20. That was a typical Brad Underwood loss. Even his best teams seem to have these occasional inexplicable no effort losses. They weren't ready to play today.
  21. Nah. The Pirates can't afford the luxury of a meaningless move like this. It feels more like "How can we piddle away our large market advantage without spending like a large market team?"
  22. This is the type of signing a loathe, giving not insignificant amounts of money to borderline depth pieces rather than pooling that money to sign an actual quality player. It's the same thing every year, always rounding out the roster with semi-expensive garbage and then wondering why none of them can get outs in the 9th inning.
  23. Or maybe a new front office might like having a star in the middle of the lineup for the next several years. Who cares about 8 years from now?
  24. He doesn't like free agency so much that he prefers to trade assets for guys who could most likely have been signed for the same or a lesser amount without giving up anything.
