  1. Rivera has me worried, because I'm sure he's going to throw everything at Rex to put the pressure on him. I hope I'm wrong, but I think we're looking at about 2 interceptions and 1 fumbled snap. Is Olsen playing today?
  2. What exactly happened? I got home and the score was 6-2. Jones started the wrong direction on a ball to center, then dove and it got by him for a base-clearing triple with the runner thrown out at home going for an inside the park home run... although replays showed that his foot got in before the tag. So was it catchable? If he didn't run the wrong way, would it have been caught? Yes and yes.
  3. It doesn't help that Jacque is slumping with the bat again. Might as well see if Pie can get hot with the bat. That way we're at least guaranteed to get good defense. That moves Jones to right and then we lose Cliff Floyd's power bat. I'm not sure this team can survive that loss.

  5. Soto should be playing more than Kendall is. He's become too much of a liability defensively. Why should Soto play? He is only better at every part of baseball. So true. That's good stuff right there. It is pretty much like when we played Lenny Harris over Mark Bellhorn everyday in '03. Egads. I had forgotten about the Lenny Harris Experiment. How dare you rip Lenny Harris?!? He's the all-time pinch hit leader!
  6. Jacque's misplay is now the difference in the game.
  7. Soto should be playing more than Kendall is. He's become too much of a liability defensively. Why should Soto play? He is only better at every part of baseball. So true. That's good stuff right there. With Soto in there, we're talking about 4 guys who could potentially hit double digit home runs. That's way too much power for 1 lineup!
  8. I was watching the first couple innings and Sheets was getting hit pretty hard. The Reds had a couple warning track shots and one really nice running catch in center. With the Milwaukee bullpen, I guess no lead is ever safe, so maybe we do still have a chance of holding on to a first place tie.
  9. I like Kendall, but he sure does have a noodle arm.
  10. I agree and I think the Cubs chances of making the playoffs are extremely slim... but at the same time I still find myself wasting 3 hours a day watching them find ways to lose games. At least last year they were bad enough that I didn't feel inclined to watch every day, but this year I can't pull myself away from it. The joys of being a Cubs fan...
  11. I sure am glad I picked up some Tecate for the Bears game, but the way the Cubs are going I may run out before the game even starts...
  12. Part of the blame falls on Hendry with this one, considering the production the Cubs have gotten out of Koyie Hill and Rob Bowen while Geovany Soto goes and wins the friggin PCL MVP. However, I think putting Pie out there every day would work out for the best. Let him play through his slumps; he'll be fine. Plus it would help us going forward. We have no idea what he will do now again next year. But we have a pretty good idea what Jacque will do...
  13. If Lou wouldn't stop putting useless junk in the starting lineup at C, CF, and RF, we'd be better off. Kendall's done well. Who else plays CF? Pie has been clueless at the plate. I don't know how anyone can possibly expect Pie to hit well when he has been lucky to get 1 at bat per week.
  14. Where would he hit in the Milwaukee lineup? 7th?
  15. That's not exactly true. He can't hit his weight in all but 1 month of the season, where he goes out of mind in order to make his season stats look respectable.
  16. You can't underestimate the value of a veteran in the rotation down the stretch.
  17. I think Blanco is the better option as a backup catcher, so I'd prefer to go with Soto/Blanco next year and save money on Kendall's contract. Also, I'd prefer my backup catcher to be more defense-oriented, which Blanco is.
  18. It's not just him, a lot of guys on the team do it. Theriot did the same thing from 2nd base.
  19. It just wouldn't feel like the Cubs without Wayne Messmer.
  20. Are you guys watching this game? Both balls that Jacque hit easily could've been base hits. It's [expletive] to get on him for hitting the ball hard. Not only have I watched this game, but I've also seen how Jacque's recent starts have generally been awful. Did you really think he was going to keep playing way above his head like he had been? He had his one great month to pad his stats and make them look semi-respectable and now it looks like he's going back in the tank. In tonight's post-game conference, Lou mentioned wanting to go with more speed in the lineup. Maybe we'll get to see Pie get a couple starts?
  21. And those Yankee fans were correctly labeled idiots by most of the rational world. Do you think Cubs fans are idiots for boo'ing Z? Z has done nothing close in the Majors to compare at all to what Arods done. Not idiots, but definitely selfish like Z said. I think people have a right to be selfish when they are spending their money to see a game. I suppose it's also selfish of me to hope a movie is good when I spend $8 to go to the theater. And it's selfish to expect good food when I go to a restaurant. Consider us all selfish! Do you boo your waiter if he drops a plate of your food? Z obviously realizes he didn't pitch well, which means booing just boils down to the fans trying to make themselves feel better. No, but in some cases customers might ask to speak with the manager if they are dissatisfied with their food or service. In our case with the Cubs, we can't speak directly to the players or management, so booing is the clearest way to express displeasure.
  22. In Zambrano's case, cheering may actually hurt him since he tends to get too pumped up. Maybe if the fans hadn't been cheering so loudly for some of the 3-2 counts, he would have been able to control his emotions enough to throw the third strike, thereby not giving up nearly as many runs today. I vote for the next game to be played in a vaccum.
