  1. Are you guys watching this game? Both balls that Jacque hit easily could've been base hits. It's [expletive] to get on him for hitting the ball hard. Not only have I watched this game, but I've also seen how Jacque's recent starts have generally been awful. Did you really think he was going to keep playing way above his head like he had been? He had his one great month to pad his stats and make them look semi-respectable and now it looks like he's going back in the tank. In tonight's post-game conference, Lou mentioned wanting to go with more speed in the lineup. Maybe we'll get to see Pie get a couple starts?
  2. And those Yankee fans were correctly labeled idiots by most of the rational world. Do you think Cubs fans are idiots for boo'ing Z? Z has done nothing close in the Majors to compare at all to what Arods done. Not idiots, but definitely selfish like Z said. I think people have a right to be selfish when they are spending their money to see a game. I suppose it's also selfish of me to hope a movie is good when I spend $8 to go to the theater. And it's selfish to expect good food when I go to a restaurant. Consider us all selfish! Do you boo your waiter if he drops a plate of your food? Z obviously realizes he didn't pitch well, which means booing just boils down to the fans trying to make themselves feel better. No, but in some cases customers might ask to speak with the manager if they are dissatisfied with their food or service. In our case with the Cubs, we can't speak directly to the players or management, so booing is the clearest way to express displeasure.
  3. In Zambrano's case, cheering may actually hurt him since he tends to get too pumped up. Maybe if the fans hadn't been cheering so loudly for some of the 3-2 counts, he would have been able to control his emotions enough to throw the third strike, thereby not giving up nearly as many runs today. I vote for the next game to be played in a vaccum.

  5. While that isn't a realistic solution, I wouldn't mind seeing Lou hang it over Zambrano's head to see how he responds.
  6. After Maddux's 11th win today, his 3.75 ERA is now lower than all 5 (6 including Trachsel) Cubs starters. I realize that San Diego is known as a pitchers' park, but I still find this to be an impressive stat for Maddux, and a somewhat embarassing stat for the Cubs.
  7. How dare we expect better than 14-12 out of him after that???
  8. It's looking like another possible "missed opportunity" day, which has been happening way too much.
  9. Should we start the "is he hurt" talk again? i don't think he's hurt, i just think he's an idiot. I agree. Was anyone here at all shocked by what happened that inning to Zambrano? He is one play from losing it every game. It just so happened being an arse on the basepaths did it today. Nope, pretty much knew it was coming once he got thrown out at home.
  10. Should we start the "is he hurt" talk again? i don't think he's hurt, i just think he's an idiot. He could very well be both.

  12. We didn't need Ramirez for the 9th inning anyway.
  13. I'll take Theriot up to bat in a clutch situation over Soriano any day.
  14. Every time I hear Mark McLemore, I still think of the old Angels 2nd Baseman.
  15. Nothing like a little bit of Fan Cam to cheer me up.
  16. At least we got Woody Williams and his dominating stuff out of this game.
  17. Ankiel just drove in another run for the Cardinals, 3-0.
  18. At least he's a great leadoff hitter. Oh wait...
  19. I'm a huge Kerry Wood fan and I want him back, but I don't really think he fits into the Cubs bullpen long-term. Dempster has done a good job as Closer and Marmol is right behind him to take over as the future closer if he slips. I can't see Dempster moving into the starting rotation when all 5 starters have been solid this year. Howry has the setup role locked down, so is Wood really worth a couple million dollars a year as a middle reliever with questionable durability? I'm sure there are teams out there who will be willing to take a chance on him as long as he makes it through the rest of the year healthy, so it would have to be another case of Wood taking a hometown discount to stay with the team. I hope that happens, but I'm not confident that it will...
  20. What about Koyie Hill?
  21. I agree with this. I miss the days of being able to catch a game on ESPN or ESPN2 that didn't involve one of the top 4 or 5 big-market teams. Yeah I know, we can subscribe to MLB.TV if we want to see the other games, but it's not the same. It would be nice to see every team guaranteed some small number of nationally televised games.
  22. Yes, I'm also concerned... not so much for this year, but next year. As we've seen in the past, relievers often don't show the effects of being overused until the following year.
  23. Why?Because he has 'Jump' as his themesong when he comes to the plate. That just isn't right!
