  1. I have seen ENOUGH... Get him off the baseball field!
  2. Theriot, Fukudome, Lee... Here we go, third time's a charm.
  3. I was about to say the same thing. At this point, I don't think it is an exaggeration to state that Soriano is one of the worst players in MLB. At some point, the Cubs are going to have to pull the plug and concede that the remaining 5 years on their investment are lost. It's still too early in the season for that to happen, but that time may come sooner than later. Personally, I can't stand to watch him anymore.
  4. I'm beginning to wonder whether Colvin's offseason workout routine may have included a special prescription.
  5. So essentially the Cubs will start the season with 3 backup first basemen on the bench? Excellent...
  6. I'm not a Soriano fan, but he hasn't done anything to require forgiveness. I hope he has a good season and I'll be rooting for him to do so, but the blame for his bad contract falls squarely on Jim Hendry.
  7. Not as much as the 'nard dog.
  8. It looks like Cirque Du Soleil is at Assembly Hall from 3/17-3/21. I predict a first round Illini loss.
  9. The Cubs need Kevin Millar about as bad as the Bulls need Lindsay Hunter. The good news is the Bulls finally released Hunter today.
  10. Ty Griffin is 42, so that ship has sailed, but Earl Cunningham is still only 39 so he may still have a couple years left in him!
  11. It may only be the first preseason game, but I can't wait to hear Pat Hughes utter those first words of spring... "Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air".
  12. Does anyone know when Cardinals single game tickets go on sale? I'm wanting to make a trip to St. Louis this year, but I still don't see any dates on their site. Do they typically go on sale later than most teams?
  13. Mattingly, shave those sideburns!
  14. I priced out a few games in the presale and decided to wait and try my luck on Friday. I have a bad feeling I'm not going to get any good games/seats this year, but I couldn't justify spending almost $300 for 4 bleacher tickets to a Friday game or almost $200 for 2 outfield box seats to a Thursday afternoon game. As much as I love going to Wrigley Field, at this year's ticket prices road trips are looking more and more attractive.
  15. I actually prefer the games on CSN now only because of the pre- and post-game shows that are virtually non-existant on WGN. My only concern is that Dish Network has limited RSN bandwidth and they occasionally don't show the CSN games in HD, especially if they are on CSN+. In other words, more games on CSN probably means less games in HD for me.
  16. Does this spell the end of the Micah Hoffpauir era?
  17. I signed up in 2006 and am #21,504. Almost there!
  18. Can the Bears offseason get any worse?
  19. There is no way Dawson deserves to have his number retired as a Cub. He is a borderline Hall of Famer who spent a majority of his career on other teams. If the Expos franchise still existed, I could live with them retiring his number, but as much as I liked him as a player he didn't do enough with the Cubs to deserve that honor. I'm happy that Dawson was elected to the Hall of Fame, but the team should reserve number retirements for only the all-time great Cubs.
  20. Only when a team is on the doorstep of making a World Series run. Backloaded contracts aren't good for a slightly above average team with significant amounts of bad money committed long term.
  21. This is an interesting question and I wonder if this type of thinking has played a part in this offseason's spending (or lack thereof). I would like to think that Ricketts has money to spend, but just doesn't feel comfortable allowing Hendry to spend it. If the Cubs stand pat this offseason, they haven't improved the team in the short term, but they will be one year closer to the end of some bad contracts without digging their hole any deeper. It is unfortunate that it has come to that, but it would hopefully give the next GM a little more flexibility to rebuild the team.
  22. After that, the only logical next step would be to bring Aaron Miles back in 2 years and award him the cherished # 21.
